This is doable but the downsides are (1) you can only use iTunes or iPhoto when you are connected to your external drive. If you forget and launch the program without the drive connected you'll see nothing. 1) authorize iTunes on the new machine for your iTunes store account(s)
2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPhone but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPhone with it.

I authorized the computer (it is the ONLY computer authorized on this account - and this is the ONLY account on this iPad). ITunes then downloaded my purchases...or at least it tried - out of the hundreds of tracks I have purchased, it managed one album that I bought over a year ago and NOTHING else. So I tried to Sync - since on older versions of iTunes (that were SO MUCH MORE user friendly) that would do the job -transferring things that were only on the iPad onto the computer and vice versa. It doesn't do that anymore. So I went from my iPad's summary to the Music tab - the box for Music was not checked but when I checked it said the only thing it could do was erase EVERYTHING from my iPad and replace it with what was on my computer (that ONE album). What is going on?

I just updated my iphone from my laptop using itunes and all my apps, music, photos etc.. were on my mobile. But when the update was finished, my phone did not have all the apps it had on before it had completely restarted and I tried to restore my iphone using my laptop but nothing had changed and all my things that were on my iphone were gone and I have tried to look on websites to get back my photos and everything but there was no answer to my question.

First, you don't have to use such a large font setting, most of us can read just fine. Did you backup your phone before doing the update? Did you reload that update after you restored your phone? All apps can be reloaded from the App Store if needed. Have you always used this computer for all of your updates and backups? Your music can be synced from your iTunes library again also. If you did not backup your pictures or videos to your computer, you may have lost them.

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time. It will recognize the iTunes library on the PC as a new library. If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library. So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC first.

Huh? File has nothing to do with it. Do not click File. Forget File. It transfers FROM iphone TO itunes. This is NOT what you are trying to do.
You need to sycn your iphone. This is very basic and is certainly covered in the manual.
Open itunes.
Connect iphone.
Select what you want to sync.
Sync.

Why does a ringtone sync want to remove all my music and video

I downloaed an app to make a ringtone from my music on my iphone 4
I made the ringtone and got it onto the desktop of my laptop then into the itunes ringtones folder but if i try to then sync it onto the iphone i am prompted that it will remove all the music and video from the iphone.
