How do I put closed captions on TV?

Not sure when it started, but I wanted to share the functionality for captions on/off IS NOW ONE BUTTON, ONE TOUCH!  Press the red "C" button on your remote, and presto! I especially want to give credit to ATT Uverse and specifically, CEO Randall Stephenson and Jennifer Strohl in his office for their tremendous commitment to making CCs truly functional for deaf and hard-of-hearing customers. In 2011, I sent a letter to Mr. Stephenson, asking for his help with making this service more usable.  At the time of my writing, it took 24 clicks to turn captions on and 23 to turn them off.  Last fall, we discovered the Zoom button mentioned in earlier posts, which had significantly improved the number of clicks.  Only this week, we discovered, by accident, that the red "C" button now works -- exactly as we had specifically requested it might when we wrote back in 2011.  As the spouse of a hard-of-hearing person, I am strenuous in my efforts to get companies and broadcasters to improve CC functionality in all ways -- and UVerse has come through in flying colors.  I am grateful - and delighted - to see ATT's commitment to inclusion in this specific instance.  In addition, would like to see the CC remain on the screen when you hit :"Pause" button.  It disappears now.  It worked with Cox Cable. chiefdore

  • How Do I Enable Closed Captions in iTunes 11?

In iTunes 10 I had enabled Preferences>Playback>Show closed captioning when available. This check box has been removed from iTunes 11. How do I enable closed captioning in iTunes 11?
    Thanks in advance,

Thanks. This represents a change in conceptualisation from Apple. Previously, closed captions were part of Accessibilty and it was assumed that anyone usings captions would want them on 24/7. It still works this way on iOS devices. On the Apple TV, e.g., closed captions are enabled for the device, via Settings > General > Accessibility > Closed Captions + SDH. Once enabled, captions will be displayed for any content that has them.
Subtitles on the other hand (and subtitles may be in the same language as the audio, they're not just 'foreign') must be enabled or disabled per item of content via the Subtitles menu, which is arrived at by holding the centre button on the remote.
This was the way it used to work in iTunes also. Rolling the Closed Captions into the subtitles menu is new, though I guess it makes sense.

Guys how to work on closed caption videos in adobe premiere x6 i have tried many times but could n`t get how to use this option?

In older versions of Premiere Pro, you are required to attach closed caption sidecar files to the Sequence. Here is one tutorial that runs through a possible workflow.

  • How can I moving Closed Captioning from one stage video to another?

Someone mistakenly included an MP4 video in a Captivate project. The project won't publish a SWF file (Your computer does not have sufficient memory resources to publish your file), and there are too many Closed Caption items on the stage video to retype them all. I'm searching for options as this will only publish with an FLV version of the video.
Doesn't the CC text reside some place beside the "Edit Video Timing" window? XML? SWF? Something? Somewhere?
    Thanks

That's excellent. How can I access what's in the skin? ... I think I may have found the captioning in the Javascript, but the chances of copying it over are pretty slim, I'd say.
Frankly the way Captivate handles closed captioning isn't good enough. This is mandatory for dealing with public universities, and we're having to program around it.

  • How do you create closed captioning in Premiere 5.5?

I have a client that would like me to add closed captioning to his videos.  I'm not sure how to do this.  Could someone please tell me how?

    Hi morenuts,
In Premiere Pro CS5.5, you can attach a closed captioning file and view it in the Program Monitor. Check out this video for details: http://tv.adobe.com/watch/short-and-suite/closed-captions-in-premiere-pro-cs55/

  • How do I import closed captions in Premiere Pro CC?

Now that Premiere Pro has close captioning we can import text as a layer in the timeline.
However, it only takes certain types of files. In the top video of this page: http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/closed-captioning.html
Jeff Sengstack says that Premiere can accept 4 different file types for close captioning but he only mentions Scenarist.
I have my close captioning file in a .txt format but Premiere will not allow that type of file. So I have a couple questions:
    1. What are the other file types that can be imported for close captioning?
    2. Is there a way to convert a .txt file to a Scenarist format (scc)?

And here I thought I was giving you more info than you asked for, but fair point ;-)
So first of all, 608 and Teletext are different standards for encoding captions. In general, 608 is for NTSC (the video standard in the U.S., Japan, and several other countries), while Teletext goes with PAL (Europe, China, Australia, and elsewhere.) There are a number of differences between them. To learn more, you might start with this Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Closed_captioninghttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Closed_captioning.
As for how to convert your .txt file to one of the supported file types, I don't have a direct answer, but you might start by searching the Web for "captions convert txt to scc." I have limited experience with a few of the third-party captions authoring apps, which I expect can ingest a txt file and encode it in the given app's preferred flavor. On the 608 side, the ones I know of are CaptionMaker (for Win) and MacCaption (I'll let you guess which platform that's for). For Teletext, you might try Annotation Edit. Note that I'm merely listing the ones that I'm familiar with. I really don't know enough to recommend any of these programs.
One final note: The captioning features that we added to PPRO CC are geared toward providing a flexible workflow with imported captions--i.e., captions authored in some other program. PPRO CC now supports editing caption content (say to correct a typo or expunge swear words) and trimming caption track items just like any other assets.
You can also create synthetic caption assets and populate them from scratch, which could be handy for short projects or for filling holes in the imported caption sidecar. However, I would not recommend attempting to author all the captions for a project of any substantial length within Premiere. It's simply not designed for that, and there are dedicated programs that do this far better.

  • HT1657 How can I turn closed captioning off?

How can I turn off the closed captioning while playing a rented movie on my Apple TV

    Thanks varjak paw.
I was afraid this was the case.  To the degree that Apple marches down this well-travelled road towards making money by trying to pound customers into submission with flashing ads, etc. that actually serve only to aggravate and drive away at least people like me (28 year user of macs) from both Apple and whatever is being advertised, and indeed get in the way of my being able to efficiently do what is my part of what I always thought was the core of the synergism between Apple and its customers -- them innovating to provide the best tools to help us to be creative and productive, then the company will find itself sharing that space with myriad other companies so bankrupt for ideas and innovation that they have no other possible strategy that to promote mindless consumerism.  That does not seem a place of strength for Apple and a complete forfeiting of its unique position.  Sad to watch.

  • How can I use closed captioning with Netflix movies?

Any help from the community on how to be able to see closed captioning on Netflix movies; works with movies from iTunes?

Hm, Id really like to figure this out also. It bothers me to see my laptop screen out of the corner of my eye using my 30in. Its kind of stupid but, still bothers me.
edit: That was way to easy. Just close the laptop and let the bluetooth mouse wake it back up. I had tried it once before and it didnt work. Maybe I was just to impatient to wait the extra 10 secs.

  • How do I add closed captioning

Operating systems OSX Tiger on a pre intel G5 MacPro, OSX Leopard on macbook pro, Final Cut Pro Studio 5, iMovie '09
In my videos I want to add the option of Closed Captioning for my audience.  However, I don't wish to add continual subtitles.  How can this be accomplished via the software I'm utilizing or is there an add on program that may accomplish this?  Hopefully, without having to type the entire script.

    Hi,
I know it's been a while since you posted your questions.  I'm now wondering the same thing and if you've come up with a solution.  Thank you!

  • How to change the closed caption display in cc 2014

Hi since the new CC update they the option to change the closed caption seems to be removed. Currently it is set to teletext level 1. But i would like to change this to CEA-708. In the older version of cc u could change this by clicking the program monitor settings but this option is no longer available.
The adobe site stats Adobe Premiere Pro Help | Closed Captioning  "You can select the captioning standard for a caption clip loaded in the Source Monitor. In the Source Monitor panel pop-up menu, select Closed Captioning Display > Settings. For example, you can select CEA-608, CEA-708, CC1, CC2, and so on. You can toggle the Closed Caption display on and off."
But this button is now gone.
    Any help?

The button icon you show above is for enabling/disabling closed captions display. To access the Program Monitor's Settings menu, click the wrench icon to the left of the Duration display.
If you want the Closed Captioning Display button back, click the plus sign in the monitor's bottom right corner and drag the button to the button bar.

  • How do I remove closed captioning on ATV?

My ATV has somehow acquired Closed Captioning for all the movies & tv shows that I watch.  My reg. tv has the closed captioning turned OFF, and when I warch reg. tv I do not have this issue.  When I go into Netflix on ATV, all of my movies have that disconcerting "text" for CC on it.
Have I done something silly that can be easily fixed, or should I reset ATV?
    Thanks

I bought a brand new ATV 3 two days ago. I had the same problem with closed captions displaying, even though in settings it said CC was turned off. Instead of toggling that setting on & then off again, being new to the ATV I decided to first set up a distinctive, garish custom CC style to make sure it was the ATV that was displaying the captions & not something else.
Even though I had not toggled the setting on & off again or selected my custom CC style, when I exited settings the captions were no longer displayed. So it seems it is a lot like some preference settings in OS X: when they aren't doing what they are supposed to do, changing any of their options sometimes fixes whatever is wrong, even if it isn't a problem with that specific option.

  • How do you enable closed captioning in the new Premiere Pro CC 2014?

I just upgraded to the latest version of Premiere Pro CC 2014... I can't seem to find a way to "enable" closed captioning!

  • How do I get closed captions to play when exported, nothing is working (embedding, side files etc)

I can't seem to get my closed caption track to play when exported, since my film is in german it is completely essential, none of the side files work with quicktime or vlc and neither does embedding it

First off, media players like QuickTime and VLC do not play sidecars. I believe sidecars are used for broadcasting and possibly for writing to DVD.
As for the embedded captions, a few questions:
What is the type of the caption stream? Only CEA 608 can be embedded into QuickTime clips.
In QuickTime, have you enabled caption display?
If you import the QuickTime clip with embedded captions back into Premiere Pro, are the captions present?
