  • Can I restore a playlist from my iPhone back into iTunes?

My playlist disapeared from iTunes, but it is still in my iPhone.  Is there any way to restore my playlist from my iphone back into iTunes?

iTunes is designed to 'sync' onto iPods, NOT the other way 'round. In order to copy content from an iPod back onto a computer, it requires a third-party utility (if you Google 'iTunes alternatives' you'll see many possible options]. Most of them are free.

  • I see that i have a problem after installing my new hard drive on my macbook pro mid 2009 version. I put a new hard drive, with all of my information from my old drive installed on it, into the computer. but now have the blinking question mark folder

i see that i have a problem after installing my new hard drive on my macbook pro mid 2009 version. I put a new hard drive, with all of my information from my old drive installed on it, into the computer. but now have the blinking question mark folder. I see that it means that it isn't reading the new hard drive.
did i miss a step between transferring all of my information from my old hard drive to the new hard drive and installing the new hard drive into the computer. I believe that i installed properly. it was quite easy.
    thanks for your help

It means there is no bootable system on the drive. If you still have access to the old drive, then I suggest you boot from it then clone it to the new internal drive. Use OPTION boot to boot from the Recovery HD on the old drive:
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
         1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu then press the Continue
             button.
         2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
         3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
         4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
             to the Destination entry field.
         5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
             the Source entry field.
         6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Source means the external old drive. Destination means the new internal drive.

  • HT1473 My laptop hard drive crashed and I lost my ringtones, but they're still on my iPhone.  If I sync my iPhone with the reimaged hard drive, I'll lose the ringtones from my iPhone.  Is there any way to transfer ringtones from my iPhone back into iTunes

My laptop hard drive crashed and I lost my ringtones, but they're still on my iPhone.  If I sync my iPhone with the reimaged hard drive, I'll lose the ringtones from my iPhone.  Is there any way to transfer ringtones from my iPhone back into iTunes?

Thanks, but ringtones not purchased from iTunes, created them just before computer crashed.just before the next scheduled biweekly backup.
I found and downloaded TouchCopy 12 for PC and was able to copy the ringtones from my iPhone to my Windows laptop very easily.  It also enables you to transfer photos, memos, voice messages, etc.

  • After installing a new hard drive can I install snow leopard directly from snow leopard disc

After installing a new hard drive can I install snow leopard directly from snow leopard disc. Or do I have to install previous versions first. iMac 7.1 (2007) 2.8ghz

You can install directly, assuming the disk is newer than your computer and not designed for a different Mac, but doing so won't install iLife.

  • How to use Time Machine before and after installing a new hard drive

So basically I'm buying a new hard drive for my Macbook pro and I have a lot of files on my computer that I would like to save. I have never used Time Machine before so I need help on how to set it up before AND after installing the harddrive so my files get transferred onto the new hard drive. Thanks in advance

Me, I would never use Time Machine to do this. What I'd suggest you do is get an exterior enclosure for your new drive. Then use either Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper to clone your existing drive to your new drive. Once done, verify your clone is bootable & all of your data present. Then swap drives & use your old drive for Time Machine backups(after erasing it). Then get another drive & exterior enclosure to regularly clone your new drive to.
Unless he was swapping for a lower capacity HDD or to a lower capacity SSD, then the old drive would make a lousy Time Machine disk.  However, whenever I swap out a disk I do exactly what you do.  CCC to get the ol drive onto a new one.  Test by starting up to the new (but still external drive).  Then replace the internal drive.
I usually just sell the old drive on eBay.  My Time Machine backup is always 2X the size of the internal drive, which I believe is a bit above recommendations, but works for me.  The price of large external drives is almost the same as smaller internal ones.

  • How do I get music from my iPhone back to iTunes?

My laptop was recently wiped and I'm just this second installing iTunes again
All my music is still on my iPhone, is there a way to pull the music off my iPhone and get it back onto iTunes?

The iphone is not a storage/backup device.  The sync is one way - computer to iphone.  The exception is itunes purchases:  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.  Use your backup copy to put everything back.

  • How to install a recovery partition after installing a new Hard drive? and FileVault help.

    Hi,
I recently swapped out hard drives and when I did a Time Machine backup to the new drive, I noticed there was no Recovery HD partition for my drive. Is there a way to install it back on my MacBook Pro (Late 2011, running 10.7.4)?
On a slighlty different topic FileVault won't let me encrypt my new HD it says "Some disk formats don’t support the recovery partition required by encryption. To use encryption, reinstall this version of Mac OS X on a reformatted disk."
What formatting does my disk require for FV to be turned on? Currently it is Mac OS Extended (journaled)
If there is a solution to solve both these issues, or any one issue it would be appreciated.

The formatting being referred to is actually the presence of the Recovery Disk.
You can't enable FV2 without a recovery partition being present. The reason is strictly logical: if your entire disk was encrypted, how could you run the unencryption procedure you need to start up? That would itself be hidden behind the encryption. Hence, for FV2 to be able to work, you must have a Recovery disk present.
When you boot up with FV2 enabled, the login screen you see to enter your password is actually running from the recovery disk (invisible to the user). After you enter your password, recovery boots your encrypted partition and logs you in to your account.

  • How do I retrieve the music off my iPod after installing a new hard drive on my laptop

My laptop harddrive was just replaced, and I didn't have my iTunes backed up. When I went to sync my iPod with my new iTunes, it says that my iPod is already synced to another iTunes library, so I can't sync it to mine. But that old one was on my dead hard drive. How can I retrieve my music off my iPod?

Copy the entire iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.

  • Recovering my pictures from a backup after installing a new hard drive.

    Hi,
My hard drive crashed, but fortunately I had recently backed up my pictures folder to an external HD.
But when I copied the pictures folder back into iPhoto on the new HD, not all the pictures were imported. I got a message saying some files couldn't be found, or some such.
And the ones that did import didn't have the date or the titles I'd written for them. My album structure didn't import either.
    Can anyone please help me?
    Thanks!

HI there, same thing happened to me, unstable updates, ho-hum. My issue was a little more complicated. I have been reading the discussions first to see if it may have been mentioned. I had a back up of my library, and reinstalled. all was ok till I remembered that I had a prior issue when I rebuilt the library a few months ago that I had a folder with over 5000 photos that said recovered. I really never quite figured out where they came from. in an earlier post of yours I read something about separate years in the library that that was outside the data folder. I never removed them as I was still trying to figure out where it came from and why.Sooo here I realized after I started I-Photo that I should not have imported all the photos as a tone were thumbnails etc..needless to say I ended up with 23000 photos instead of the 15,000 that I started with. I tried to rebuild but they were still there, and the I-Photo structure upon inspection was the same mess I had before. The rebuild prior to that where those extra 5000 pics came from started at 10,000. So How should I actually do it correctly. to fix the mess. I removed the entire I-Photo library again. So it will be fresh when I open and ask what I want to do. Of course I was working on a movie project, and realized that I was unknowingly using thoses thumbnails without realizing it. Boy did that movie stink, ha ha thanks in advance for anyones assistance. I will know the correct way of doing it once I see it I am sure, Ileen

  • How to install a new hard drive in a G4?

I got instructions from the genius bar about buying and installing a new hard drive. I installed it in the front carrier.I must have not connected it correctly as it doesn't show up anywhere on my computer. The main thing I wasn't sure about was connecting the ribbon and power cord. I'm hoping I can avoid another trip to the Apple Store. Diane Cassidy

    Hi Diane:
This is probably not the right forum to be asking such a question, but maybe this link will get you started. it may or may not help considering you didn't tell us which G4 you had, but go there until something better comes up!

You need to copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.
The iphone is not a storage/backup device.
The music sync is one way - computer to iphone.
You can transfer itunes purchases.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases
