How do i put imovie on dvd

ok so i need to put my imovie on dvd to send to my hubby...how do i do this on my mac pro? help please

You need a DVD Authoring tool for this. Check your applications folders to see if you have iDVD on your Mac.
If your Mac is relatively new, it may not include iDVD, because Apple no longer sells it.
See this post for several options, including free options.

Purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

Yes, there are programs that will put a movie on a DVD.   I have tried most of the other substitutes including Toast, Burn, DVD Creator, Wondershare, and others.  None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD. IDVD is specifically designed to work with iMovie.

Why would Apple give us iMovie and not provide us an app to burn it to a DVD and / or take away the iDVD?

To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

  • How to best export iMovie to DVD with 4:3 ratio without distortion?

I created a montage of old pictures and video clips in iMovie '11 and need to eventually create a DVD in 4:3 aspect ratio.  I exported the movie in 1080p (1920X1080) even though the clips/images aren't HD quality.
Do I need to "dumb down" the export size (i.e. to large 960X540) to prevent problems when I make the DVD?  Does the export size have any effect on the ultimate aspect ratio, or is that handled by iDVD? Or doesn't the export size matter?
Thanks I am a newbie with this stuff.

    Hi
Best way to do this is by using another tool
    • iMovie HD6 and set it from start as a 4x3 project. And iDVD too, as a 4x3 project. This will give maximal picture quality as both can do interlaced video as is standard to DVDs.
    • If You must use iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 (can not handle interlaced video - discard every second line instead = Less sharp result) - Then
    • do a 4x3 project  AND NTSC or PAL dep on what the DVD is supposed to be.
    • Share to Media Browser and as Large (Not HD or other resolution - as result will degrade in scaling and audio might also be lost)
    • Start a 4x3 project in iDVD (PAL - 25fps OR NTSC - 29.97fps) - and import from Media/Movies. Do not let iDVD Chang from one to the other - it will burn but the result will be very Jumpy !
    • Set down Burn Speed to x2 or x4 to get a DVD that plays better on more devices.

  • HT1349 I just bought a tv show - downloaded it and now I would like to watch it on my TV - how do I put it on DVD to work on my dvd player

I just bought a tv show from the itunes store - now I would like to burn it to dvd to watch on my tv through my dvd player - can I do this

Because video content from the iTunes Store(aside from video podcast episodes and music videos) contains DRM due to restrictions set by the copyright holders. The DRM would not be preserved upon burning it to a video DVD, which is therefore not allowed.
Data DVDs aren't usable in standalone players.

  • How can I put movie into my new ipod video ??

I would like to know how I can put a movie (dvd) into my ipod video ??

    Commercial or home made?
If you mean commercial-we aren't allowed to tell you, it violates terms of service.
Home made-you will need to convert the mpeg2 files into mpeg4 files that comply with the iPod accepted format.

  • How do I put an iMovie onto a DVD?

How do I put an iMovie onto a DVD to share with others?  Mac OS x Lion operating system. iMovie ... not 2011!

    Hi
Do not use - Share to iDVD - if You want any kind of Good DVD as this gives poor result BUT
    • Share to Media Browser - and as Large - Not HD or other resolution as this too costs in quality.
    • in iDVD im port it from Media button (down right) / Movies
Use good brand DVDs - I do
    • use Verbatim
    • DVD-R (as they work on more and even older DVD-players
    • burn speed set down to x2 - x4
    By using
    • iMovie HD6 or
    • FinalCut
You get an even better resulting DVD

  • I want to break up my hour long video in iMovie 11 into smaller 15 minute segements to upload to youtube. How can i put EDITED VIDEO in new projects in iMovie?

I want to break up my hour long video in iMovie 11 into smaller 15 minute segements to upload to youtube. How can i put EDITED VIDEO in new projects in iMovie? (each 15 minute segment to iMovie)

In iMovie's Project Library view (where all your projects are listed), click on the name of your project (don't double-click to open it, just single click to highlight it).
From the Menu select File > Duplicate Project. A copy of your project will be placed in the Project Library. It will have the same name as the original, but with a number appended. You can rename it if desired - click on its name twice (not double-click) so that it is highlighted as light blue, then over-type it.
Delete from the duplicate all the clips and other media (for example, photos, music and so forth) that you don't want included in the first of your 15 minute segments. In other words, delete all but the first 15 minutes.
Continue creating duplicates of the original (and rename if necessary). Delete from each duplicate all the unrequired parts for each segment. So, for example, for the 2nd duplicate delete the first quarter (15 minutes) and the 3rd and 4th quarters.
You should end up with 4 duplicates with separate names, each containing the required segment. You will also have kept intact the original one hour movie, which you may wish to use independently of YouTube (maybe for burning a DVD or playback through a Media Player).
Note that duplicating the original project will not take up much extra space on your drive. Projects reference (link to) the associated Event (or Events) in the Event Library - they don't actually contain video as such. The project file also keeps track of titles, transitions, effects, music and so forth that you've added to the project.

QuickTime Player is not itself able to do this. You need a proper DVD authoring solution such as Apple's iDVD.

  • How do I put all my seperate video files into one DVD?

    Hey friends,
Toby here again, thanks so much for giving me hint to the scroll bar, I've finished putting the audio into the video as well as the effects.
Which means my movie's almost complete!
However, while I await the music from my composers to be completed to put in the film for story-telling depth, I need help again.
I have edited my movie into four seperate windows with this program, and I'm currently trying to figure out how I can put all of it together or all of it into one DVD because I need to watch and make sure the footage's video matches with the audio so it doesn't seem like a Godzilla dubbing or something.
Give me as much suggestions as you could possibly give me, and thank you kindly for your time!
    -Toby

Since you said DVD, I assume you're working in standard rather than hi-def video.
As I show you in my books:
    1) Share/Computer/AVI with the DV preset to output each of your segments as a DV-AVI.
    2) Open a new project using the standard DV project settings.
    3) Import all of the segments and combine them on the timeline.
Just as a note, a DVD can hold about 70 minutes of video at full quality. If you're video is longer than that, it's probably a good idea to spread it out over two or more discs.

  • How do you put videos on your computer onto iMovie?

I have been using iMovie for a while now, and I want to start making montage videos of movies and games and stuff. If I have video clips on my computer, how do I put them into iMovie so I can edit the clips together and stuff?

When you have iMovie open. You can jusr drag the clip you want into the timeline or clips browser.
Or you can go to File>Import.
Then you can edit any of that.

What you are referring to is called "ripping".  You can use something like HandBrake which is free to do this.  HandBrake will not allow you to do this with commercial / encrypted content (e.g. most movies which you might purchase on DVD).
