How do I put iPhoto in the dock when I can't drag it there? I've had iPhoto problems before, and I now have 6 iPhoto libraries with up to 5k in each. Recently had motherboard replaced and have 10.6.8.

Launch iPhoto by double clicking it in the applications folder. While it running right click on it in the Dock and select keep in Dock

I upgraded to OS X Mavericks yesterday. Great results I am happy with it. So much faster than Mountain Lion. (I think honestly this is why Apple made it free. So many complaining about ML being slow.. my iMac is now fast and zippy)

I have a very prominent client and since I work with his files every day, I made a tag for his files and I drag the saved search into the dock at the end where you drag folder..
When I open the folder in the dock then try to drag a file it doesn't drag.
The other issue is when I click Date Modified as the order it shows oldest files first, which is not the behavior when I drag a normal folder into the dock.You have many issues with your and your wife's machine(s). Everything you've posted works here. Reinstall Snow Leopard, repair permissions, and see if that fixes things.

I am using iphoto 6.0.6 and after opening the application it drops below the dock. I can see it when I use expose to reveal all open windows but once selected it drops below the dock.
Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101. -
my itunes id is blocked by apple because of an internal problem trying to update the itunes version, apple support is not helping at all and I need to update all my application. Is anybody you had this problem before? and how did they help? thanks

I've recently upgraded to Lightroom5.7.1 and now when I try to import photos a window pops up saying 'the photos can't be imported 'cos the files can't be read'. I had no problems before upgrading. I have Windows8 & can't find any 'app' which sets the type of files I can import. Any help appreciated.

Your permissions issue is an operating system issue, not a Lightroom issue. I didn't mean to be sarcastic. But there are plenty of Internet resources that will answer that question.
I just went to Google and typed in "change disk permissions", and there are links for the Mac as well as for Windows listed. There's no sense in me rewriting instructions that are already available. -
i purchased two songs on my iphone and it did sync with itunes. Then i put the two new songs in a music folder and it won't sync the songs to the folder on my iphone. same phone same computer never had this problem before.
In iTunes, try signing out of your Apple ID & then back in: click on iTunes Store on the left sidebar of iTunes, click on your Apple ID on the top right, sign out, sign back in. Then try to sync your purchased music to your phone again.

When I try to import pictures from media card to iPhoto, I'm getting the error 'The following file could not be imported. The file is in an unrecognized format.' The file is a jpeg and I've never had this problem before.

As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there? -
My CS6 program that has never had a problem before, is not telling me that there is an error and that it "unexpectedly quit" when I simply try to launch the program. I have restarted my computer several times. It does the same thing each time. So then I tried uninstalling the program and re-installing. It said that it could not install due to an error. So I STILL can't launch my program. I don't know what to do. Any help would be appreciated. I have to edit photos for a photoshoot and return them tomorrow. :/

I have multiple iPhoto libraries on my Macbook Air 10.7.5 and when I am selecting which library to view (hold down 'option' key and launch iPhoto from the dock) it automatically closes another open application window eg. Chome, Word. 1 app closes every time I launch iPhoto this way.
If you're pushing Option at the exact moment you're clicking the Dock icon, it's supposed to do that. Wait until just after clicking it.

Can I delete files in "All My Files" under Finder and Favorites without deleting them in the actual folders? If they will be deleted from the original folders then how do I put them on the external hard drive to save the documents, photos, and videos?
Switch to the Finder app and open its preferences.
Remove the check mark on the items you don't want displayed in the Sidebar tab.
The originals are not removed from the machine. -
I don't know what is going on with the White Balance (WB) and LR. I had no problem before but recently LR started to change the WB as it is importing photos. I checked the color scale for my photos and LR and both are with sRGB. Now instead of LR changing the WB it is giving me a second copy with a new WB. Your advise is very much needed and appreciated. Thank you.

The message "the file name is invalid or too long" pops up when I try to download a cd onto iTunes. I never had this problem before but lately it has been happening. What can I do to fix this?

The simplest method is to run a defaults command on the client Macs (easily pushed via Apple Remote Desktop):
defaults write com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL 'HTTP_URL_FOR_CATALOG'
for a user. If you run it via sudo it will set it for whenever you use softwareupdate as root.
The HTTP_URL_FOR_CATALOG has been changed with Mac OS X 10.6. If you use MCX it will automatically pick the new catalog – however if doing it manually the following URLs need to be used for whichever client version is in question:
Mac OS X 10.4: http://mysus.example.com:8088/index.sucatalog
Mac OS X 10.5: http://mysus.example.com:8088/index-leopard.merged-1.sucatalog.sucatalog
Mac OS X 10.6: http://mysus.example.com:8088/index-leopard-snowleopard.merged-1.sucatalog
Mac OS X 10.7: http://mysus.example.com:8088/index-lion-snowleopard-leopard.merged-1.sucatalog
Mac OS X 10.8: index-mountainlion-lion-snowleopard-leopard.merged-1.sucatalog
To double check this applied you can run the following command:
/usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c Print /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
and /usr/libexec/PlistBuddy -c Print ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
to see what settings are for the computer and user appropriately.
If this is working correctly when running Software Update (GUI) you should see the server address appear in parenthesis in the title of the window.
MCX
Another alternative is to use Workgroup Manager to manage the preferences via MCX from your server. This can be done for users, or for computers if they are bound to your Open Directory.
If you are using 10.5 Server or newer: you can simply use the Software Update section under Preferences.
Manually:
Choose the accounts, computers, or groups to have the preference applied to.
Click on Preferences, and then the Details tab
Press the Add… button and navigate to /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
Press Edit…
Under Often, add a New Key and enter the name CatalogURL
Make sure the type is string and then enter your SUS URL (eg. http://mysus.example.com:8088/index.sucatalog or if using 10.6: http://mysus.examle.com:8088/ – see above from the defaults section)
Press Apply Now, then Done. Once users/computers have refreshed their MCX settings (usually the next login or restart) the new settings will take over.
If this is working correctly when running Software Update (GUI) you should see the server address appear in parenthesis in the title of the window.
In order to have a system-wide configuration one has to run the following:
sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL "http://your.updates-server.lan:8088/index.sucatalog"
In order to correctly work both on Leopard and Snow Leopard the right command to issue is:
defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL "http://your.updates-server.lan:8088/index-leopard-snowleopard.merged-1.sucatalog"
Happily used and tested on my network
The DNS trick that Chealion points out is fantastic. I use it at our office, and every computer on our LAN will automatically pull the updates from the local repository at high speed without any configuration.
Create the swscan.apple.com DNS zone on your internal DNS server, and have it resolve via an A record to your Mac
