I would like to downgrade my firmware but my power button does not work and I can't get into DFU mode.

Placing your device into recovery (DFU) mode:

       device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
       let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
       charge, and then start with step 2 again.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
       When this screen appears you can release the Home button:

My iPhone just shut down after a call, battery was around 60%, its power button doesn't work and iTunes doesn't recognize it. I can't put it in DFU mode because that's by pressing home and power simultaneously but I don't have a power button. I can't restores via iTunes because it doesn't recognize it. Same thing happened to me today...when googling found people having same problem with iphone 4 and said to hold power and home buttons to reboot. It worked! I was in a panic but its like it never happened...everything is as it was before. Even showed a missed call...

IOS 8 has put my iPhone 5c into recovery mode

I've downloaded IOS 8 on my mac ready for install on my iPhone. I knew i didn't have enough space or time, so once it stopped downloading i ejected the iPhone and my phone got stuck on the apple with the status bar. It then went into recovery mode, and was telling me to connect to iTunes. Connected to iTunes where iTunes detected the phone but my phone is still telling me to connect. Ive tried the reset twice and at the end it says the iPhone isn't connected when it is.
Anyone else experiencing this? and found a solution?? i really don't want to take it to apple cause i live an hour from the closest shop. Thanks!

If he cannot remember that, there is nothing you can do to change that. DFU mode will not correct that. It will be locked and cannot be activated, period.

No - you can't put the phone in recovery mode or DFU mode without a functioning sleep/wake (power) button.
Note that DFU mode is only useful when hacking the phone. Recovery mode is what you want for troubleshooting.

wait it for your iPhone to die then before it turns it plug it into iTunes while holding the home button and it will force it into recovery mode.
will be hard to get the timing right cause u will need to wait for the battery to die and charge up again. Other then that just take it to apple and have them replace the device for a fee.

Turn the iPhone off (hold down the power button at the top of the iPhone)
Hold down the sleep/power button and home button together for exactly 10 seconds, then release the power button
Continue to hold down the Home button until a message appears in iTunes telling you an iPhone in recover mode has been detected
When you are in DFU mode your iPhone screen will be completely black
Even though the screen is black, that doesn’t mean the device can’t be interfaced with either iTunes or a custom firmware client (for jailbreaking, etc).
Remember that if you see the restore logo, iTunes logo, or any message on the iPhone screen, you are not in DFU mode but standard Recovery Mode. Again, DFU mode is signified by having a completely black screen on the device. If anything else is the case, repeat the steps above until you enter into DFU mode successfully.
Exit DFU mode on iPhone
The simplest way to exit out of DFU mode is to hold down the Home and sleep/power buttons on the iPhone while connected to iTunes. Then just hit the power button as and this should reboot the device as usual.
And if you’re curious, yes this works all the same on an iPod touch.

i have tried to restore via itunes as i would have usually, half way through i get an error code 3194 pop up.....and yes i do back up.

Well, that is going to make it difficult, since the first two steps of user troubleshooting require the use of the power button. I suggest you get that fixed.
