How do i quit system preferences when its frozen

i tried to download icloud now it wont let me quit the application

You will need to re-install OS X using your Snow Leopard DVDs and then can restore your data from your backup. If you do not feel comfortable doing this plan on a trip to your local Apple Store or AASP and they can assist you.

  • Cannot quit system preferences

Odd situation. My son's MacBook, running SnowLeopard, suddenly can't shut down System preferences. When we try to quit... we notice the 'Quit System Preferences" is grayed out; we can't 'x' out, or even minimize the window. when we click on the red 'x' option, we get the ker-klunk error sound. The computer can't even shut down, due to the system preference still running. We can't even do the control/alt/escape either. We try to apple Q to quit... nothing. THis is the FIRST time this has happened. Any idea of how to solve this?
    Thanks!

    HI,
    Open Activity Monitor (Applications/Utilities)
Click the pop up menu on the right and select: All Processess
Select System Preferences then click the red Quit Process button, click Force Quit.
You should be able to shut down the Mac now.

  • How do I stop System Preferences from carrying out an operation?

I was in the middle of deleting a user, saving the disk image in the Deleted Users folder. I deleted the Deleted Users folder and I tried to stop System Preferences from doing the deletion but I couldn't.
The reason why I want to stop the procedure is because it was taking too long. Also the disk image seemed to be taking up too much space. I was worried it would fill up my hard drive. And I don't need the disk image anyway.  I just want to delete the user without saving a disk image.
So I tried to stop the process by doing what I did above. But I am afraid it might have hung up System Preferences as I removed the file that it was saving the disk image to. I emptied the trash and the file is no longer there.
    What should I do?
When I go to System Preferences, I see this:
Have I made System Preferences frozen in some sort of perpetual loop that it can't save the disk image to the site where it's supposed to save it to and so it can't stop saving?

I think I fixed it. I force-quit System Preferences (I force-quit Disk Utility before I tried this because I thought DU was the one making the disk image) and now System Preferences closes. When I opened it to look at the Users the user that I was trying to delete and save a disk image of is still there. I guess that's expected as I didn't finish the deletion process.
I suppose the next step is to delete that user but choose the third option that comes up, the one that says delete without saving a disk image.

How do you fix the ipod when its not playing the music right when it makes noise

    Hi Nicole,
Try resetting it (nothing will be lost): Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Silver Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). The Home screen should redisplay after the reset is complete.

  • How can i navigate system preferences if trackpad is not working  somehow the option were unchecked

How can i navigate system preferences if trackpad is not working?
Somehow the first couple of trackpad functions were unchecked and since they are not operational I can't click or tap to turn them back on.
I've tried shutting down and restarting and holding my hand on the trackpad for 3-4 sec. then sliding it off (another post had this suggestions).
I don't use the function keys at all to navigate the computer so I am at a total loss if the trackpad does not work.

    Thanks for the response.
Unfortunately this did not work - the tap to click is still not checked - and the tap function does not work.
I did try it twice - and even used a stopwatch to be sure I got the time right.
I noticed there is also an instruction to reset PRAM (was with the SMC reset instructions).  Is that something that may help?

  • HT1689 how do you unlock your ipod when its disabled?

how do you unlock your ipod when its disabled?

    This is the same thing:
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.
If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone and use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
You can also wipe the iOS device by installing the FindMyiPhone app on another iOS device and using that app to wipe the device.

How do I recover system preferences which I accidentally trashed from the dock

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Although you removed System Preferences from the Dock, you still have it, because it is stored in the Applications folder.
To get the System Preferences icon back in the Dock, open a Finder window and select Applications in the Finder sidebar. Then, look for the System Preferences icon, and if you find it, drag it to the Dock
