How do i re-accossiate my ipod to a new computer?

My ipod was originally registered onto my home computer, which is a PC. Now i'm at university and have an emac and would like to be able to have it as the computer which my ipod is registered on so that i can update it from the emac. Do i have to wipe my ipod clear and start a fresh somehow or is there an alternative option so i can keep my original tunes on there?
Please help, thanks!

Plug it into the computer.
When it asks to replace the songs on the iPOd with the songs on the computer, click "No".
This willset iTunes to manually manage songs.
You have to drag songs to the iPOd to get them to load.
Better yet would be to copy the songs from your original computer to your new computer.

If you still have Access to the Old Computer or its Backup...
Copy your ENTIRE iTunes FOLDER to an External Drive... and then from the External Drive to your New Computer..

  • How to Transfer Files from Your Ipod to a New Computer when You Don't Have the Old One?

My old computer crashed and I have a new one now, how do I transfer the files from my ipod to my new computer itunes program???

  • How do I put an old iPod on a new computer

Hi, I've just got a new PC and I want to put my iPod, along with the iPod's of all my family on it too. However, none of us want to lose any of the songs we currently have on our iPod's. How can we use the iPod with the new computer with the iPod being able to transfer it's info?
Sorry if the question sounds confusing.

One thing. Yamipod doesn't appear to work with iTunes version 7 or later although there is a beta (untested) version.
If you have this version of iTunes, Copy Pod is a good alternative which does appear to work.
If you have an earlier version of iTunes, first you need to close it. Yamipod won't work with iTunes open.
Then connect the iPod and follow the instructions here.
    There's another method listed here.
    Music from iPod to computer.
There's also another method. I've successfully tested this across several different Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), then Copy Pod or Yamipod is your answer.

  • How do move my music from iPod to a new computer that will not recognize my last iTunes account

My school district installed new computers. The IT told us that our iTunes would not be effected.  When I went into iTunes on my new computer, there was nothing there. Obviously I can't plug in my iPod or everything would be erased.  They said that there is nothing they can do about this.
How do I move my music from this iPod to this new computer that will not recognize my last iTunes account?  It appears that it was wiped out. I have close to 400 songs that I use for daily classes. The os is now Windows 7. The old one was Vista.
    Thanks for your help.

This website walks you through step by step how to download the music from your ipod to either a Mac or a PC.  For a PC, you will not need to download any software.  I haven't tried the methods recommended for a Mac or for reformatting the ipod, but the method for the PC works.

  • HT203167 lost my hard drive how can i get songs from ipod back to new computer

I lost my hard drive and want to get my music back on my new computer. How can I get songs from my ipod to my computer? I am afraid to sync it and losing what is on my ipod. Any help would be appreciated.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup, not good, then you can transfer itunes purchases from your ipod:  File>Transfer Purchases

  • How can I get my old iPod onto my new computer without my old computer?

The hard drive on my old computer recently crashed and there was no way to recover anything from it. I was currently using iTunes 7 on that computer so everything was updated. I was using Windows XP on my old computer but I just bought a new one that has Vista. I have a lot of songs and pictures on my iPod and want to get them to my new computer. How can I do this if I don't have any computer authorized to my iPod without losing everything? Please help!

Connect your iPod to your computer. If it is set to update automatically you'll get a message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTMS purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    TuneJack Windows Only
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iGadget Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    iRepo Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows Versions
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
There is also a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows or a Mac. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod
There are various programs out there for recovering photos from an iPod, have a look at the ones below. If you search the internet you can find more:
    iPodPhotoCopy Windows only
    CopyPodPhoto Windows only
Tansee iPod Transfer Photo Windows only
iPod Photo Liberator Mac & Windows
If you have full resolution copies of the photos on the iPod have a look here: Apple Knowledge Base article - Use Disk Mode to copy photos from iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • How do I manually transfer from iPod to my new computer?

I have thousands of songs on my iPod. I want them on my new laptop. I cannot sync them bc the copy of iTunes I downloaded came with a built-in, 100% undesired library. I can't do it by choosing the iPod and selecting "export library." I also cannot do it by opening the library on my laptop and selecting import. When I went to an Apple Store, the guy told me to download Music Recovery. This has not been any more helpful. I have noticed ab out 4 other 3rd party software producte mentioned in discussions here. Do I really need to download each of these and try it out? Isn't this one of the most basic things people need to do with their iPod? Is there any reason for it to be so difficult?

If you laptop was new and you downloaded iTunes from the Apple site, there should be no tracks in the library.
Anyway here are some ways of copying tracks from your iPod to your PC
    Copy from iPod to PC
It is important not to allow your iPod to sync with an empty library. If it is set to synchronise automatically you will get a message saying your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to sync – it is important to press cancel as syncing with an empty library erases all music from your iPod.
You can also prevent auto sync by holding down shift & ctrl as you plug in your iPod and keeping the keys held down until the iPod appears in iTunes.
Once you are connected, you need to set your iPod to manage music manually.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61148
If you have an iPod with iTunes Store purchases on it, you can use it to copy your purchases to other authorized computers.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/7.3/en/2586win.html
However this is not allowed for other music.
This MacMuse tip tells you how to copy music from your iPod using Windows Explorer, but it is a bit fiddly:
    http://discussions.apple.com/messageview.jspa?messageID=797432
Otherwise you can use third party software to manage the transfer, there are a variety of programs out there, some free and some that will copy ratings and counts as well as the music files. Here is a selection, check them out and see what suits you.

  • How do I transfer music from Ipod to a new computer

from my old computer I put the music in to my Ipod, but when I tried to transfer the music from the Ipod in to my new computer everything was erased, can someone tell me how I do that.
    Thanks
    Edwinft

just happened to me last week... you clicked Yes, right? unless you've backed up your music (or held onto your old computer), you're kinda screwed. If you HAVE done either of these, open it back up, save EVERYTHING to a new playlist, and send it to your AppleID... I found this out too late, and I just spent the last 6 days re-importing every single CD I own.....
Good luck - I know it's devastating, I feel your pain!

  • My computer crashed, I have had to get a new computer How do I now sync my Ipod to the new computer without deleting everything?

The new computer is already authorised and on home sharing but the old computer wasn't so how do I sync the new content from the ipod to the computer and vice versa without deleting content that isn't synced with this computer

    - Transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - To transfer other music you need a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
Copy music from Ipod to new computer...: Apple Support Communities
    - Connect the iPod to the computer and make a backup by right clicking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up.
    - Restore the iPod from that backup

  • How do I sync my current iPod to my new computer? (same iTunes account)

I've had my iPod touch for a few years, had it connected to my old laptop but I recently got a new laptop. I downloaded iTunes on my new computer and signed in to my account. I had some music downloaded from somewhere other than iTunes and I moved all those files to the new laptop's iTunes library; and there is also some new songs that I purchased from the iTunes store on this computer that are not on my old computer or my iPod. I tried syncing my iPod with my new laptop and it connect and I click sync and it goes through the 3 steps, yet none of the new music has transferred over. I'm not sure if there's something wrong here or if there's something I have to do. Please help!

It was just the button at the bottom that said "sync" so i clicked that and it said like step 1 backing up step 2 preparing to sync and step 3 syncing yet none of the new music synced. and i went onto the tab that says music and i clicked on the box that said sync all music but it went way down to like 700 songs when i actually have over 2000 in the library. so i canceled that and didnt go through with it because i dont want to click the wrong button and lose alot of my music
