How do I re-enable client security solution on my Thinkpad W700 running Windows 7 64 bit

How do I re-enable client security solution on my Thinkpad W700 running Windows 7 64 bit?  It no longer brings up the "password manager".  Thanks

Patterns:
Password Manager is part of the CSS package which you can download the W7 64 bit version from here:

Hope that helps

  • No Protection Tools! I have enabled enhanced security. This is Acrobat XI on Windows 7 64-bit. Did same install on a Win8 server and it's fine.

I just want the protection tools to show on the Tools dropdown! So I can use them...

    Hi Sara,
Thanks for putting me in the right place. I'm not much of an
    online-community person!
Here's what happened after your email:
    1. I went into Acrobat and clicked the down arrow as you described. I
previously had been clicking in the View menu. I saw the Protection
tools and I was so excited.
    2. So then I clicked on "allow multiple panels open" whereupon the
Protection tools disappeared! They did not reappear when I unclicked the
    "allow multiple panels open".
    3. Remembered that I hadn't reinstalled the updates after reinstalling
Acrobat in hopes that would fix this problem, so I installed the
    updates. I'm now on 11.0.07.
Sadly, still no protection tools appearing in either the View-> Toolsets
or the down-arrow in the upper-right corners of the Tools panel. Bummer.
This is so strange, since the same installation worked great on our Win8
    server!

  • How do I launch and Reset Client Security Solution?

W510, Windows 7 Professional, 64 bit, and I like using the Password Manager feature with fingerprint security.  During a recent printer installation I had to set-up a Windows Password (I never had one before). Now upon logging in, Client Security Solution continually provides error message ("Your windows password was changed recently. Please enter your Windows password to synchronize with Client Security Solution" - but it doesn't recognize anything I enter, including the current password. I can ignore the message but now I am locked out of some encrypted files.
Lenovo Document ID#HT004617 correctly addresses this problem; but I'm stuck on their Solution Step #4 (Launch Client Security Solution) -  I'm supposed to launch the program, click advanced, and then select "Reset Security Settings."  Problem is there are over 4 dozen executable files in the (2) qty Client Security Solution sub-directories (c:/program Files (x86)/Lenovo/Client Security Solution and c:/Program Files/Lenovo/Client Security Solution) and I have yet to find one that properly launches the CSS program. (CSS is not available from the Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools menu).
    How do I start CSS?
I keep machine up to date, ThinkVantage Fingerprint software #5.9.3, PW Manager version 3.20.0335.00. Machine is under warranty but Lenovo Support thus far unable to tell me what to do!
I'm sure somebody here knows the right CSS file to run, and specific procedure to synchronize the Password, would sure appreciate some help on this, thank you!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Been away working, now back...
It was an HP8500 Printer that started all of this.  I find it difficult to believe that a (simple?) printer install could do so much collateral damage...
BACK TO MY ORIGINAL QUESTION - How do I reset CSS?  Per furnished Lenovo documentation, (found on the hard drive) CSS was never installed on Windows 7 machines (for some Lenovo reason).  I can export PWs to external drive but still have no idea how to launch the CSS files (of which several executable files came pre-loaded on my machine).
As far as being locked out of files, Finale composition software now says (upon trying to open files) "You don't have permission to open this file. Contact the file owner or administrator to obtain permission.."
Worst case, I can re-build my Finale composiitons, but I'm still annoyed with the Lenovo log-in screen constantly asking me to enter a password that I don't know!
I am very dissapointed with purchased LENOVO WARRANTY SUPPORT - the people I've talked to have no idea about what I'm trying to explain to them.

  • Client Security Solutions wants to synchronise passwords with Windows

For some reason Client Security Solutions wants to synchronise passwords with Windows. I managed to get rid of this request years ago but it has returned. My problem is that I can't remember what my windows password is. How can I stop ThinkVantage from making this request each time I boot up my computer?

C'mon, Lenovo!  I'm the original poster on this...your original response was that Password Manager doesn't work on Google Chrome because they don't support extensions...but they have in their latest release since at least 5 months ago!!
    Disappointing.

  • Client Security Solution

    Hi,
I bought X60 a year ago but with recent restores, everytime I boot up there's a message :
[Client Security Solution : There was a problem connecting to a critical service. It is possible that anti-virus or firewall software is blocking connection. Also, check to make sure that the TPM device driver is installed and enabled].
I have tried disable firewall both from XP and AV but still. I don't know how to identify TPM device driver or whether it exist/not.
Anyone know how to resolve this ?
    thanks,
    -bw

I had the same problem with an X60 running XP and this adjustment to the BIOS stopped the error message:
    Restart your computer.
Press F1 when the blue button prompt comes up.
Use the down arrow key to highlight Security and hit Enter.
    From Security choose Security Chip.
If the Current Setting is Disabled then this is your problem.
    Hit Enter and select Inactive.
    Finally hit F10.

  • Unable to recognize integrated smartcard reader by Client Security Solution

Hi, I have a W510 with an integrated smartcard reader. I tried to setup a new smart card, but at Client security solution ver. 8.30 over a windows 7  64 bits, is not recognized. Accessing the CSS software, I choose the Advance menu, an the option "Setup smartcard" always remains not highlighted, that means that the CSS software doesn't recognize the Smartcard/smartcard reader. The smart card reader driver is recognized by the system devices and it's installed well, the system said that is working correctly but I'm not able to access the "setup smartcard" option at CSS SW. I updated everything from Lenovo site and still doesn't work. Someone has any clue or idea about this? I'm trying to setup a Encryption Smart Card, I don't  have idea about what kind, but it's new from an Omnibook (a pack with 5 smartcards) and it comes label with "an imagineCard Solution" label. it has a round chip instead a square chip like the credit cards.
I really appreciate all your advices about this.

Yes, CSS software has the option to setup a smart card (as is mentioned at CSS deployment guide from Lenovo for CSS 8.3), but the software doesn't recognized the smartcard once I plug into the Thinkpad. The main purpose  for the smart card will be authenticate the user using smartcard allowing to work when it's inserted and stop to work once it's retired from the laptop. The chip and all security options are enable using CSS.
Please let me know how to solve this or give me the software/middleware to recognize the smart card for W510.
    Thnaks in advance.

  • 6483: Client Security Solution message

    Hello,
I have a client whose 6483 machine is telling him to enter his Windows password:
    "Verify Identity
Reason for authentication:  Your Windows password was changed recently. Please enter your Windows password to synchronize with Client Security Solution."
This is a home machine, so for all intents and purposes, it doesn't have a Windows password. The only password he had was the admin password he made up when he first booted the OS, but that password doesn't work.
I did some poking around through the forums here and it seems like if there is a TPM chip onboard, that turning that chip off or resetting it in BIOS might do the trick, but I'm not sure if this machine has a TPM chip.
Has anyone encountered this on a ThinkStation, and if so, what was the solution?

there is a dedicated TPM menu in the BIOS where you can clear the chip, disable it, enable it, etc.   i personally don't use CSS and can't tell you how to fix it but it's definitely worth playing with the TPM area in the BIOS to see if it helps.
you should also search through the dedicated TVT forum to see if you can find a similar situation and resulting solution.
    good luck!

  • X61 - Vista Business - Client Security Solution Error - There was a problem connecting to the TPM

During startup my x61 has been displaying the following message, 'Client Security Solution' - "There was a problem connecting to the TPM (security device) ont his computer. It is possile that anti-virus or firewall software is blocking the connection. A missing or disabled device driver could also cause this problem. Please refer to the online documentation for more information".
I have spent an extraordinary amount of time and effort to find identify the cause and a solution for this problem. It occurs whether or not virus software is enabled or disabled and numerous calls to Lenovo, Symantec, Kaspersky, and Microsoft have resulted in finger pointing and no answers. None of the vendors acknowledge the problem yet this same issue is a significant topic of concern as found in various blogs and 'help' sites. Lenovo thought it was hardware and changed the motherboard. Lenovo told me to call Microsoft since it was a Vista issue. Microsoft told me to call Lenovo since Vista Business was preinstalled on the machine. Lenovo told me to call Microsoft and so it goes. I removed Symantec's anti-virus and replaced it with Kaspersky.
The strangest thing is that the module works intermitently and it seems that everytime a Lenovo update is performed (via Thinkvantage) the problem reoccurs for sometime.
Does anyone out there have an understanding of the cause and a potential solution???

I have the same problem on an X 60 platform, which only surfaced in the last two weeks subsequent to running all of the Lenovo updates.   Prior to this, I had reinstalled all programs, starting with the Recovery Disks for the Think Pad.  Everything, including start up, was exceptionally fast.  Once I ran the most recent BIOS updates, along with several others, this error message surfaced.  It is intermittent, however, and I have not noted an issue.
In reviewing several other Message Boards, I have seen this issue raised several times.  Here is a link to a thread where the individual did achieve a solution through Lenovo, but their response is nonspecific as to what they did:   (http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=T400_series_ThinkPads&message.id=7143&query.id=1...

  • Client Security solution not working with fingerprint, Fingerprint Tab is unavailable

Just recieved my Thinkpad T430 today and have done all updates on the system. I am trying to use Client Security Solution with my fingerprint however it will not allow me to do so. Whenever I go into password manager I get the message, "The requested operation requires fingerprint authentication, but the device is not installed. Please make sure the device is connected and retry the option". Any idea as to how I can fix this? Currently the fingerprint only works to logon to windows (Note: I'm Running Windows 7 Pro x64).

  • Client Security Solution with TPM

    Hi,
after upgrading the z61p from XP to Vista I am not able to get the client security solution (css) up and running.
I always get amessage form css on the screen that an error occurred during connecting the TPM on this computer (sorry, I'm using the german language versions, therefore my translation might not be exactly the same what you get from the english version).
The message-box shows the additional hint, that the problem might be caused by the firewall or an antivirussoftware (both are actually disabled).
    What I tried out already:
    - delete and reactivate the TPM before installing css
    - delete TPM (without reactivation) and install css
    - connected to my domain, and not connected
    - firewall disabled and enabled
    - antivirus running and stopped
Has anybody an idea what else I can do to get the css with the password-manager up to work??
    Regards - Rudolf

  • A problem with Client Security Solution patch for Mozilla Firefox3

After I updated Client Security Solution to 8.20, the password manager cannot work in FF3 again. When I tried to reinstall the patch, it asked me whether to overwrite the files or cancel.  Then it indicates 'This patch has already been installed on this computer', but the problem exsits.

Borntofly, I am glad that you brought this up as I have not been able to successfully use FF3 with CSS 8.1 or 8.2 and have provided feedback in this thread:
    http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=Special_Interest_Utilities&thread.id=937&view=by...
As much as I would like to upgrade to FF3, I have not had any success in either using the manual configuration changes noted in the above thread or by using the CSS Patch for FF3 provided by Lenovo on 8/6/08 found here:
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70132
This patch appears to duplicate the manual efforts provided by member KTP in message 12 in the above provided link from what I can see.
I have never had an issue using the TV password manager and IE7.  It is a very reliable combination.
I have no issues at all using FF 2.0.0.16, CSS 8.1 or 8.2 (now on 8.2), and Thinkvantage (TV) Password Manager 3.00.0106.00 (came with CSS 8.2).  I have never had Lenovo Password Manager on my T60.  Everything works reliably well with this combination.
In 3 hours of work yesterday, I was able to get TV Password Manager to show up in the FF3 add-ons as TV Password Manager 3.01 and this is the only way I was able to make it work, but only for a single browser session:
    1. Tools --> Add-Ons
    2. Disable TV Password Manager, then restart FF3
    3. Tools --> Add-Ons
    4. Enable TV Password Manager, then restart FF3
    5. TV Password Manager will work for the duration that I am using the browser session
Once I close FF3 and reopen it, TV Password Manager no longer works.  The only method I have found to "reset" everything is to perform the above sequence, but again it only works for the single browser session.  It is very consistent.  Although in does not show this in the Add-Ons page, it almost appears that the TV Password Manager add-on is disabled after I close the browser and needs to be manually disabled then enabled as noted above.  If this is due to a conflict with other software on my laptop, I have not been able to determine this.
In my efforts yesterday, I spent time uninstalling CSS 8.1 or 8.2, FF, and even removed registry entries related to these packages in order to start with a fresh install, all without any success.  I tried fresh installations and added the manual changes promoted by KTP and also tried fresh installations using the Lenovo patches, all without success.  I made attempts to troubleshoot to root cause by removing all add-ons except TV Password Manager, and also tried preventing certain software from installing at startup via msconfig, as well as multiple settings changes within FF3, all to no avail.  Again FF 2.0.0.16 continues to work very well with little effort on my part.  I simply install the software and ensure that TV Password Manager 2.0 in installed in the add-ons and that's it.
In the above FF3 thread, it appears that others have had success with KTP's changes so I am a little frustrated that I cannot make FF3 and TV Password Manager work reliably.  I have FF2 and IE7 working so I have plenty of good alternatives at this time.  I will post this at the FF3 above as well to see if anyone has any feedback.
Moderator(s), do you wish for this thread to be integrated in the original thread for this issue?

  • Client Security Solution password problem

I have just had my computer reformatted to the factory settings. I wanted to avoid having to enter my password each time I logged in but, as has happened before, I forgot what the process was. Eventually I made my password blank and did something else (?) which meant that I wasn't asked for a password by Windows. Unfortunately Client Security Solutions now asks me to validate my identity ("Your Windows password was changed recently. Please enter your Windows password to synchronise with Client security Solution".)
I have just given myself a new Windows password and will see how it goes with Client Security Solution once I reboot. My basic aim is to bypass the Windows password screen.

Since my last message I have reset my Windows password. I no longer get the message from Client Security Solution, instead Windows tells me that I have entered the wrong password. All is OK if I then enter the new password.
Perhaps this query should be placed on a Windows forum? I have set Windows to bypass the password entry screen, so If it weren' for this problem I would never have to enter a password.

  • Client Security Solution - System Key Recovery - After Lenovo Service

I have a T61p running Windows 7, which I recently had to send to Lenovo for service after the video failed. According to my repair summary, the motherboard on the computer was replaced.
I received the laptop back today, and now when I log on, the system comes up with a window from Client Security Solution asking me to "verify my identity" with "reason: system key recovery."
Unfortunately, the program will not recognize my password, and I get an error message that authentication has failed.
I tried calling Lenovo's support number, since the problem seems to be directly related to their replacement of the motherboard, but I received the response that "that's a software issue, we can't help you."
Any help on this is much appreciated!

    hey shannonw,
could you try uninstalling the Client Security Solution software and then reinstall.
