How do I re-initialise the restore of the backup created by the iOS5 upgrade

In my over enthusiasm to get iOS 5 I forgot to sync my iPad 2 with iTunes before kicking off the upgrade- doh! No worries, I thought, as the process creates a backup. The upgrade worked but the restore did not. After several tries I simply synced my iPad. Everything works apart from missing some data from an App. that I increasingly use for work. So- I would like to re-invoke the restore to at least get my data back and then worry about fully "recovering" from the upgrade! I can see the appropriate file in the ...\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPad Software Updates directory but this is not available to any of the normal restore processes that I can see. NOTE: after the several tries when prompted that the restore did not work I did press the Delete button rather than try again. I recovered the file to the afore mentioned directory.
My PC is Windows 7.

This is not to diminish the fact that this worked for you (and no doubt many others) but there are already several posts about that particular solution and -- as stated -- this was about what to do when that (and several other proposed fixes) did not work.

I think cpohlink has made a good observation. The same issue- no plus sign- is showing up in both calanders and contacts for some people. I have the plus sign on both apps, and do not have the problem at all. So what is the difference?
I have i cloud turned off for everything but find my phone. And i am not synced to any external calander or contact list except my phone.
Change your cloud settings to off, and see if that does it. Also, think about what other clalanders/ contact lists you might be syncing with. If they ae considered the 'master' then that may make the pad pad a slave, and unable to add entries.
Related question, can you edit entries, or is that blocked as well?

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after the iPad shuts down, then press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).
If these don't correct the problem connect to iTunes and do a restore.
You can't downgrade iOS levels.

Ipad not recognized by windows neither iTunes after error in the iOS5 upgrade

The iOS5 upgrade was stopped due to an error.
Since then the iPad is not being recognized by windows neither iTunes. I've re-installed iTunes, the file usbaapl.sys is at windows\system32\drivers and Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers folders but still there's an error when I plug in the iPad - Apple Mobile Device (Recovery) - This device can not start (code10).
I've call the support here in Brazil and the only information that I got was that this was due to the fact that I'm running windows XP and it doesn't support iTunes 10.5 and iOS 5. Can any one confirm this? Why there's no information on this when I installed the 10.5 version and downloaded the iOS 5?
Any help would be highly apreciated because now I have my iPad asking to be connected to iTunes and no chance to get a PC with a different version of Windows...

Glad you got it fixed - and I wasn't trying to be a wise guy.
It just seemed logical to me that if iTunes recognized the iPad and the iPhone - but they didn't show un in your Windows Devices Manager or Explorer or whatever it's called - that it was probably a Windows thing.
Now you must truly be a HappyMommy!

This is all true.
The iphone 3G can only be updated to 4.2.1. It will not support any version higher than that.

That depends mostly on your Internet connection download speed, and how much data you have on the phone. It could take anything from a few minutes to several days. There is no "one size fits all" answer.

How Apple is dealing with the academic upgrade problem

Evidently, many people have been surprised to find that they have no upgrade path from the academic version of Aperture to 2.0. Apple emailed a return authorization number to me and would refund the $99 upgrade price when I return the package.
However I decided to pay for the full version of Aperture 2. I talked with a real person at the Apple Store by phone. Apple has had so many inquiries that they have a mechanism in place in which they will ship the full version for another $99 added to the original purchase order and will email a FedEx shipping label to return the upgrade package at no cost to the customer.
I'm not happy that I couldn't continue my academic discount and have to buy the full version, but at least Apple acknowledges their mistake in not making the upgrade policy clear on their order page by covering the shipping charges.

No, I was not able to upgrade from the academic version. I had to purchase a full retail copy of Aperture 2. All Apple has done is try to minimize the hassle and eat the extra shipping costs for not making it clear that academic users cannot upgrade.
Because of the rebate issued to purchasers of early copies of both academic and full versions I'm unsure, but I think I've paid as much or more for academic Aperture 1.0 + full Aperture 2.0 as early buyers of full 1.0 + upgrade to 2.0. This was not a case of marketing genius by Apple...

How, specifically, do I restore Time Machine backup of Snow Leopard after upgrading to Lion?

I upgraded to Lion and cannot access my Quicken files. I understand that I have to go back to Snow Leopard to export the Quicken files, but I don't see how to restore Snow Leopard from Time Machine. Or, how to boot up directly to the external drive, which was also suggested as a solution.

Make sure you have the current version of iTunes.
Now connect by USB, with iTunes open, the update notice will pop-up.
Click on download only (If you're having problems don't complicate things with an install now.).
Got the download?
Eject the iPad and do something else for awhile.
Come back open iTune, connect the iPad and install.
Future updates won't require USB connection to iTunes but for now you have to.
If your still stymied take the iPad to your nearest Apple Genius Bar and have them do it (make sure all necessary info is backed up on your home computer).
Then call a local computer techie and find out what's going wrong with your machine.

I did like many of you the installation of operating system 5. I believe iTunes created a backup during this process. Where is that backup? I cannot restore from iTunes using such backup. iTunes does not have a backup on that day.

If you are referring to an update from iOS 4 to iOS5, your itunes would have made a back up of your iOS devices content - music, apps, etc. But, once you update to a new OS like iOS5 you can't go back to the old OS. (At least not easily) You might do a search on the forums to see if other users were able to do that on past OS...if that is what you are asking. ???
