How do I re-install FCE4 after motherboard repair?

Hi folks!
Hope you had a great Christmas! Just got my fantastic MacBook Pro back from the repair shop with a new motherboard, and I'm excited.
However, when I try to start up FCE4, it asks for the serial number. I punched in all the numbers I could find on the package, but none work. (FYI: I had the store technician install the program when I purchased the computer three years ago, so I've never actually installed the program myself)
Anyways, can anyone tell me how I'd go about re-installing, or where on the packaging I'd find the serial number (in my experience, serial numbers usually start with S/N, or something like that; all I'm seeing on the package is two numbers: one starts with MB... , and is right above the label "Final Cut Express 4 Retail"; and the other number starts with BP. Can anyone offer any advice? Is there a special place I'll find the serial number to my version of FCE4?

Thanks, mate, but the computer did not come with any iWork DVD. It only had the OS install disc and the Application restore disc, neither of which contain iWork. The error message reads: "Pages cannot be opened because of a problem. Check with the developer to make sure Pages works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X. Clic Report to see more detailed information and send a report to Apple."
I sent a report to Apple. This message repeats for Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. My original receipt shows the iWork app was paid for.

I purchased and installed Acrobat XI in June. Shortly after this the hard drive on my laptop needed to be replaced and I now need to reinstall. Can I do this using the original code, as if installing a new product, or do I need to do something different? Please advise

I would like to start a new installation, format Macintosh HD and reinstalling Snow Leopard. From that point carry on with Lion, Mountain Lion and, eventually but not sure, Mavericks. After the new install could be problems retriving all intalled apps from Applestore?

My imac started with Snow Leopard, then after Lion and Mountain Lion i accepted the upgrade to Mavericks and i didn't appreciate the new interface and usage of some apps, i.e. iMovie. Meanwhile, even before Mavericks, os was slowing down, but even if a bit annoying and unusual still accetable. Consider that i have installed a bunch of apps regularly purchased, mainly fom Applestore. No fancy gadgets. So, as i didn't like that much Mavericks decided to restore from Time Machine. Possibly was a mistake and now i have an enviroment i feel i can't manage. Today, for instance iDvd shut down in an unaspected way three times and then i decided to reinstall. Agree Mac is not Win and, in fact, never had such a problem, but now i need, say for my interior peace, to start from a clean situation. That's why my question, what about my actally installed apps?

I had to have a new hard drive installed on my MacBook Pro and now need to re-install iWorks and my QuickBooks Pro. How can I do this without having to pay again. The download in Apple asks me to pay for each of them (I paid & had them installed on my computer when I purchased it)

Intuit helped me with their re-install and even found my license number. I just need to know how to do the iWork now when I have no disk, since they installed it for me when I ordered my MacBook Pro

That makes sense Dennis. I did that but was unable to find Adobe Reader in my Applications folder. Of note though is that after a restart, the problem seems to have gone away. So, disaster averted. Thanks for responding though. It's nice to have help on this stuff.

Hi, I had the same problem and I found that you don't need a serial number anymore. Here is what I did:
(1)I went to Applications fodder on my Mac. (You can navigate to the Application folder from 'New Finder Window.')
(2) Deleted Pages (installed as part of the free free trial version) from the Applications Folder. Also deleted 'IWorks' from the Applications folder.
(3) Started AppStore.
(4) Clicked on Purchases.
(5) Clicked on Pages.
(6) Clicked Install.
(4) repeated (5) and (6) for Numbers and Keynote

Download it from the App Store as Matt suggested. You may have to move the current version to the Trash Bin (don't delete yet), go to the App Store and look for iPhoto 9.6 under purchases. It will be free.
What iPhoto version did you have prior to the Yosemite upgrade? If it was iPhoto 7 (08) or earlier you'll also have to download and run the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 on your library before opening it with iPhoto 9.6.

If you can download the ML installer you can make a bootable install media by using:

If your Mini came with ML you can also boot to Internet Recovery
OS X: About OS X Recovery
and it will install ML. Make sure you boot to Internet Recovery and not the Recovery Partition. If to the partition you will only get Mavericks.

How to keep all my itunes after install of leopard?

Assume I am not all that when it comes to macs. Not new but rusty.
I have tiger with itunes and it has loads of podcasts/albums(rips) etc, and also on my ipod touch. I would like some help as to how do I keep all this after I install leopard. I think I am going for a full install rather than an upgrade.
The mac is an imac with pre-installed tiger. I am sure there is some way of keeping my itunes folder after i wipe the drive but have never done anything beyond fill up ipods with stuff.

I would suggest backing up your entire iTunes Music folder to an external hard drive or disk if the folder size is practical. To retain your playlists for reimport later on, open iTunes, select the Music Library and choose File->Export Library then save it off system along with the back up.
I recommend using Terminal to back up your iTunes Music folder because Finder's drag and drop can sometimes corrupt copied files, particularly when the directory is large. Suppose you've connected a firewire or usb external hard drive and you can see it mounted on your Desktop, here's what I would do using Terminal (/Applications/Utilities):
Open the directory ~/Music/iTunes/
Open Terminal and type the command scp -r. Now drag in the folder iTunes Music (your copy source). Next drag in the external drive mounted on your Desktop (your copy destination). The Terminal window should now read something similar to this, press Return to start the copy process:
scp -r ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes\ Music /Volumes/External HD
When the process is complete the command prompt will return back to you. If you want to see the copy in progress change scp -r for scp -v -r. The -v makes the process verbose.
I'm with you on choosing a clean install, i choose this method every time for upgrades. Archive and Install presents the possibility of dragging old conflicts back into a clean system.

This may be a really dumb question, but how much does Premiere Pro and After Effects rely on the hard drive it's installed on if all your video files, assets, disk cache, etc are on different drives than the one the program itself is installed on?
The reason I am asking is that I currently have a "relatively" slow Sata II SSD for my C drive that has just my OS (windows 7 64bit) and programs (adobe editing programs, no games) installed on it and nothing else. All of the files used in my projects are saved on either a very fast Sata III SSD or a slower HDD depending on what the files are. For example, disk cache on the Sata III, stills on the HDD.
Being cyber monday I have the opportunity to buy another very fast Sata III SSD to replace my current Sata II SSD C Drive (just OS and programs). Both synthetic and real world benchmarks show a near double in performance. I just want to know if anyone thinks the upgrade is even worth it because for all I know there won't be any increase in performance since no videos, still, cach, etc will be stored on the C Drive.
The alternative is to get a second monitor because I currently only use one 21" monitor.
I suppose another alternative would be to not buy anything on the cyber monday deals and just save money for something else.

Thanks Alex! I think you are right about not being able to notice the difference between the SSDs. I ended up finding a deal to get about $80 off a great monitor that I've been looking at for a while and decided to pull the trigger on it. I thought about it and realized that there have already been a bunch of times where I want to watch a tutorial on youtube and follow allong in AE or PrePro, but have to keep switching windows. I also frequently want to have my video preview on a separate monitor so I can have a taller timeline window. This monitor will help a lot with that. Thanks again for your help!

You should run the removal applicaiton that came with your installation. Flash Player version 10.1.102.64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users. However, this Flash version won't work for many videos on Facebook, YouTube and other sites. Adobe's latest version, 10.2.x or later, is only for Intel Macs. Adobe will not provide a newer Flash version for PPC Macs.
The message requesting that you download Adobe Flash Player takes you to Flash Player requiring an Intel processor. Doesn't work on a PowerPC processor. I found a hack, installed it & it works with Firefox, TenFourFox & Safari.
Download this http://www.steelbin.com/FPforFBPPC.zip to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work.
