How do I re-name a network?
I have two wireless networks at home, one for internet and the other for sending music to my stereo via airport.
I simply want to rename at least one network to make it easy to know which is which. Currently they are extremely similar.
Rename it in your routers.

How can I delete the guest network from my airport. It was not showing up until I recently upgraded the airport. It now says my name's guest network and I don't like my name showing on the available network list! I am using a Verizon wireless modem with the wireless feature off.
Open AirPort Utility, go to the Wireless tab and remove the check from the guest network check box.

AirPort base stations are set to request an IP address by DHCP.
AirPort base station passwords are "public."
AirPort base station names revert to "base station xxxxxx," where xxxxxx is the last six digits of the wireless MAC address*.
AirPort base station network names are "Apple Network xxxxxx," where xxxxxx is the last six digits of the wireless MAC address*.

No, that info was removed from the airport utility at v6 toyland edition.
The last real utility was 5.6.1 and although it is not actually supposed to work on AC model it does sometimes.
But you can generally see what is on your network using the netstat command in the computer..
Open the network utility and go to the netstat page and run scan.. this can take a few minutes.. and should show all the clients as well as the router/s. At least all the ones the computer can see.
The network utility is under utilized as people seem to not know of it.
There are iOS tools like this as well. Sorry but I don't remember the name/s. -

LShapsThe MacBook Air will autodetect WEP and WPA security changes and should allow you to reconnect again. If the password stored in the Mac is wrong, it will ask you to enter it again.
With that said, to forget a network do the following:
- Go to the Apple Menu and select System Preferences
- Click on the Network icon
- Highlight the Airport / WiFi entry (sepending on 10.6 vs 10.7)
- Click the Advanced button at the bottom
- Make sue the Airport / WiFi tab is selected
- Click on the network name you want to forget
- Press the minus button at the bottom of the list.
You may also want to consider restarting if you are having this issue. -

you need to negotiate Authentication in ur applet code...
For example:
If u r using Form based auth u need to send Post a request with j_user_name &
j_password to the action j_security_check. and when server returns back the
cookie
u need to hold it and pass that cookie to the each and every request made to the
protected application.
Basically u need to imitate the browser.

I have a TC with one Mac connected through ethernet and the other Mac and iOS devices connecting through wireless. How can I merge the ethernet network and the wireless network so that I can share iTunes libraries between the 2 Macs? Thanks

This would take care of the "normal" file sharing between the 2 Mac. But I'm trying to use the iTune feature called Home Sharing, which allow sharing music etc among familly computers that are on the same network, independantly (as far as I understand) of any file sharing set up in the Mac OS. However my experience so far is that the 2 Mac between which I want to apply this Home Sahring feature have to be on the same network. Indeed even if I only have a TC as my router, the 2 Mac have to be on the same wireless network (main or guest). Since one of my Mac is on the ethernet network and the other on the wireless (main) this does not seam to work. I feel that somehow this Home sharing feature looks for the name of the network and make sure that the 2 computers between which I'm trying to enable sharing use the same network (i.e. same name). However the ethernet network does not have a name....
For now, the solution is to have the ethernet wired Mac to also be connected on the wireless network. I'm just not sure how the OS is handeling the connection to 2 networks (hopefully giving priority to the faster/more reliable ethernet one). -

To change the Network Name using AirPort Utility v6.x: AirPort Utility > Select your AirPort > Edit > Wireless tab > Wireless Network Name. On the same tab, you can set the wireless security password. -

That's an iCloud issue. Go to Settings > iCloud and turn off your Contacts, choose to keep the info on your phone, and then restart your phone, and then turn Contacts back on. If that doesn't work, delete your iCloud account from your phone, choose to keep the info on your phone, and then add the account again. If that doesn't work, go to settings > general > reset > reset network settings, and reconnect to your wifi network. If that doesn't work, restore from either an iTunes or iCloud backup.
