How do I reactivate DW CS5 which remains unresponsive?

Repeatedly, DW CS5 becomes unresponsive when I open it (on a MacBook Pro running OS 10.7.5). Been using the app daily for years without this happening previously.
At startup, the DW page window on the left appears but is mostly blank; the directory/files screen on the right never appears; the cursor cannot activate anything on the DW page window while it can activate everything else that's open; the Mac beach ball runs continuously when the cursor hovers over the blank DW screen; the beach ball disappears when I hover over anything else on my screen.
I've restarted my Mac twice with the hopes that DW would cooperate. Alas, it has a mind of its own. No matter how many times I restart DW CS5, it instantly goes into unresponsive mode.
I've not recently installed any plugins related to DW.
Is there a DW preference file that I ought to delete, in the event that it's the cause of this problem? Perhaps a cache file? If so, what is it named and where do I find it?
If not, how do I reactivate the app so I can get back to working on my project?

This is mainly a user-to-user forum.  If DW recently began to misbehave, try deleting corrupted cache.

    It's not possible. Serial numbers are platform specific. Even if you install the CS5 trail version, it won't activate with your PC serial. Your only option is to upgrade to Creative Cloud.

    Make sure that you not run Firefox in (permanent) [[Private Browsing]] mode.
    * You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
    * To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting <b>Firefox will: Use custom settings for history</b>
    * Uncheck: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"

    Settings/Control Center. There are two options which are pretty self-explanitory...one enables/disables access on the Lock Screen and one enables/disables access within apps/games.

    First of all IT IS GREAT and I use it a lot I also used the CS4 version before!
    But I have to report two issues about version CS5:
    1. I bought the English version of the production premium CS5 but I have a German operating system (win7 64bit) all other adobe application are in English except Adobe Media Encoder it shows up in German language! Not a show stopper but should be fixed.
    2. Recently I wanted to encode a video into an h264. I made some custom settings for that and the encoded video played very stuttered in Microsoft Media Player 12 (like 12fps instead of 25fps [settings were set correct in AME]) but fine in Quicktime and VLC Player (execpt for the gamma bug but that's an other story...)
    I did a lot of testings and found the issue! Sometimes when you change a lot of the h264 settings (don't know when it happens exactly) Media Encoder seems to not set the fps correctly allthough AME shows 25fps in it's settings this setting is not encoded into the final file!
    Quicktime and VLC seems not to care about the missing information but Windows Media Player gets confused.
    It does not happens when using a preset in AME it only happens when changing a lot and using custom settings!
    You can see the missing fps setting when right clicking the encoded file and choose properties (german:Eigenschaften) switch the tap to Details and there is no fps setting in the stuttering files but when encoded with a preset in AME there is the correct 25fps setting!
    I have attached a screenshots to demonstrate it:
    My workaround so far was to choose a preset with 25fps and close to my desired settings and change as few as possible - Fingers crosses and with a chance of 3/4 I was able to encode a working file containing the fps setting in it which plays perfect in Microsoft Media Player!
    I hope you take a look into this issue because if you have a long file and you have to encode it again because it fails....... uiuiui

    Select troubleshooting information on the help menu.
    Select the show folder button in the profile section.
    Windows Explorer opens in the folder Thunderbird is now using as your default profile.
    If you copy the contents of your old profile into the new one with Thunderbird not running then is will just be there when you open.
    Conversely, you can to copy the %appdata%\Thunderbird folder (which has your profile as a sub folder) from the old to the %appdata%\Roaming\Thunderbird folder on the new computer.
    Access the location by typing %appdata% in the start menu and pressing enter. Windows will locate the correct physical location it is using for application data and open windows explorer at that location.

    The idea is that restarting it will reset the ports. This is not a common solution because ports usually work and do not require such attention. It is likely the port is defective. It may well be a poor contact.
    I don't know what type of computer you have, but It would likely have Firewire ports as well, which will work just as well as USB. So, even if you have one less USB port than you want, you can make use of the Firewire port instead.

    we have a menu just above an icon toolbar. If you move the cursor upwards from the form over the toolbar to the menu, then it often happens, that the tooltip of the toolbar button shows up at mouseover and does not go away and might even block the topmost entry of the menu dropdown.
    Sometimes the tooltip goes away when the mouse leaves the toolbar and gets back, when the cursor gets down within a dropdown menu.

    I have a 22-space alphanumeric product code for my Adobe creative suite 5.5 web premium package. 
    It does not have the 24-space alphanumeric code that is the product code sequence asked for when signing up for adobe procuct code approval.  Adobe keeps asking for a correct code and I only have the one they gave me in the package, called a product code, but adobe keeps rejecting it. 
    Also, the program never loads correctly - it says this at the end of the 45-minute loading from the disc.  That is getting awfully tiresome as well.  I have everything closed as they request, and do not know how to turn off the virus protection which is windows defender.
    Also, mine is a new teacher edition, and when I go to the page for getting my approval, it will not open that page.  I have used Adobe products before with typical annoying hassle but always eventual success.  So this really is perturbing.

    Where are you getting your information on
    Try to recreate the preferences for premiere elements
    and using the following path to do that.
    For windows C:\Users\Usename\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Premiere Elements 12.0
    You are the second one today who seems to be off the path. Either that, or you know of a new approach to "resetting the preference for premiere elements" using the the Logs Folder and Trace Dalabase.txt file in the 12.0 folder in the Premiere Elements 12.0 Folder.
    The path that I find is
    C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Premiere Elements\12.0
    and in the 12.0 Folder is the following
    Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit
    Here you have the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you can delete. And, if that does not work, you can delete the whole Premiere Elements Folder in which the 12.0 Folder exists.
    The Adobe Folder in the above path also contains a Premiere Elements 12.0 Folder which contains a 12 Folder. This particular 12 Folder contents look like this
    Even Adobe documentation seem to acknowledge the way to the "preferences" that we are.

    But, I have actually looked at the computer files for Premiere Elements 4 through 12 and see what I am reporting. Have you checked these computer files first hand?

    Well I'll guess you're using iPhoto 11:
    Option 1
    Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
    This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
    Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
