Hello good evening, I have a MacBook Pro and my problem is that one of the USB ports and the device does not detect this and inactive but can not find how to reactivate.

Do you have the Firefox new tab page but the actual sites are missing, or do you have some other page?
If you have some different page, try the quick fix in Fred McD's reply.
If the sites are missing, did you use the Reset feature? That will clear the storage associated with the new tab page. I'm not sure it's possible to recover from that; you probably need to rebuild your page from scratch as you browse.
For possible future reference, here is how to access the hidden setting for the page to display on new tabs:
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''newtab''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''browser.newtab.url''' preference and enter your preferred page:
    * ''Page thumbnails (default)'' => about:newtab
    * ''Blank tab'' => about:blank
    * ''Built-in Firefox home page'' => about:home
    * ''Any other page'' => full URL to the page
Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Fixed?
    Some gotchas:
''If Firefox won't let you edit this setting:'' you may have something called SearchProtect on your system.
''If Firefox lets you save your change but ignores it:'' one of your extensions may be overriding it. You can review, disable, and/or remove extensions on the add-ons page:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > ''in the left column click'' Extensions
''If the change works during your session, but at the next startup is back to an unwanted page:'' you might have a user.js file in your personal Firefox settings folder (your Firefox profile folder). This article describes how to track down and remove the file: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
    Any luck?

  • How can I play itunes music through one of the usb ports on my new MacBook Air?

    Greetings Everyone.
I just purchased my first Mac product I want to be able to play music from the itunes app from one of my usb ports to the usb port on the front panel of my Yamaha CD changer. I want to utilize the buit-in DAC of the Yamaha. A friend was able to run his Ipad through it but I can't see a way to run my MacBook Air through it. Hi,
It sounds like a Hardware issue, so as you're still under warranty, you will need to contact HP and arrange to have the notebook repaired.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

  • Flash drive is physically stuck in one of my USB ports (HP 2000)

There is a flash drive that has been physically stuck in one of the USB ports of my HP 2000 for a few days now.
    (1) I've tried using physical force to pull it out (e.g. pulling while moving the flash drive in a circular motion, pulling straight, pulling to the sides) but that has not worked.
    (2) I even took out all the screws on the bottom of the laptop and slightly cracked open the part of the computer than contains the two USB ports so I could try to fix the problem from inside the laptop. That also did not work since I couldn't reach the internal chamber that holds the USB ports.
    (3) I also tried using tools to dislodge the flash drive. That did not work either.
And help or tips to offer?

After I went through the Apple Support Community, I tried the easiest and simplest suggestion first: restart my MacBook. Well I did it and the USB port seems to be working again and it reads my pendrive. Hope it will stay that way and never go wrong again. I really don't like going to Apple store because none is nearby.
Thanks for the reply by the way.

  • One of the USB ports on my Macbook Pro isn't working. Any way I can fix this or will I have to take it into the store to get repaired?

I bought a Macbook pro this July. Everything has been normal except about a week ago I started noticing I had to plug things in a few times in order for them to connect. Today I realized that one of my USB ports has been the problem, not my devices. THey connect right away when plugged into the right USB port next to the SD slot, but not at all when plugged into the left slot by the firewire hookup. Is this a problem that has a quick fix or am I going to have to go to the mac store?

  • One of my USB ports is not working

    Hello,
I just found out that one of my USB ports on my MacBook Pro (Early 2011) is not working. I usually use only one USB port to connect my external hard drive but when I wanted to connect my mobile phone and external hard drive at the same time, I noticed that my phone was not detected but it was charging. To confirm that there was someting wrong, I swapped the mobile phone with my external hard drive and what I found out was the indicator light on my external hard drive lights up but it was not detected by the MacBook. The other port works just fine.
Does anybody know what is wrong with the USB port and what should I do?
p/s: I bought my MBP in Malaysia early September and now I am studying in India.

After I went through the Apple Support Community, I tried the easiest and simplest suggestion first: restart my MacBook. Well I did it and the USB port seems to be working again and it reads my pendrive. Hope it will stay that way and never go wrong again. Thanks for the reply by the way.

Only drives need to be "safely" removed in Mac OS X. If they are not on your desktop open a Finder window and they will be in the right hand column

one of usb port in my macbook pro havent work after i ve updated latest security update for osx 10.7.5, how do i know what is cause that usb port is good or bad

On a Mac running v10.7.2, the only way to reinstall Safari is to reinstall OS X using OS X Recovery.
Safari 5.1.1 is for Snow Leopard. It will not run on a Mac with v10.7 installed.

  • HT2412 How would one enable the USB ports to always be providing power?

I have a USB NIC and would like to be able to use WOL as the on-board NIC does not support WOL in powered off state. Is there a way to enable USB ports always powered on? This feature is available on Lenovo laptops.

I see, I'd recommed resetting the SMC and PRAM. Please do both 2x each and follow the instructions below to the letter:
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
I see you have tried these but it doesn't hurt to do them again. Your machine is covered by a 1 year warranty which will cover any hardware problems. If you havne't already I'd strongly recommend getting AppleCare. This will extend the warranty to 3 years from the original date of purchase and also provide 3 years of phone support. You can get it directly from Apple or you can find it discounted by buying from some authorized Apple resellers such as Amazon and LA Computer Company.

  • How "windows-ish" is an iMac's USB port?

    Hi there, Mac-cognoscenti --
I'm interested in getting a GPS. My son-in-law showed me a pretty powerful-appearing one by Garmin. But when I asked him how you go about updating its sw or map info, he said they only support PCs (yeccch) as the platform from which you can do this. Naturally I am hoping that they start supporting Mac access as well, and you can be sure that I'll add my voice to that request as soon as I get one.
I believe that it now uses a USB connection between PC (yecccccccchhhh!) and GPS.
I'm planning on getting an iMac soon, and I understand that it can boot into Windows (yecccchhhhhhhhhh!) as well as MacOSX, and that using Parallels I can even run that other OS (q.v.) inside a Mac window.
I'm not looking fwd to this possibility because that will tempt others in my family to stray back into the Bad Old Ways rather than staying on the good side of He Who Provides lifetime tech support for our home LAN (c'est moi). +(Before the advent of Windoze-compatible Macs, I threw out all our Windoze machines and substituted Macs for them... now life is good for me, the tech support service...)+
Question: If I boot the iMac into Windows and run some sort of browser or FTP SW to glom the GPS updates into its filesystem, can anyone predict whether that OS can address the iMac's USB port(s) such that I can successfully D/L those updates into the GPS?

Hi Dan Kalikow: I have a Garmin C330 GPS, not a top of the line unit, but still a Garmin, so the situation is similar. I have Garmin software installed on my Mac, not windoze software, Mac software, and it works fine. I haven't done any map updates, but have done a Garmin software update. It worked flawlessly, as all of the other Mac related software I have used. Check out the Garmin site for more info: http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3499 I hope this helps to keep the family from straying back to the "other side"

  • How Do I know What Type of USB Port I Have?

How can I tell if the USB port on my computer is a USB 2.0 or a USB 1.1?

desktop > right-click My Computer > Manage > Device Manager
Scroll down to the bottom of the list for USB, it is alphabetical.
Click on the + sign, it will expand the list. My PC has 14.
Click on the first one, it should say Intel something.
    Right-click > Properties > Driver tab
should be version 6 or greater, such as 6.0.0.1011
Click on the last one, it should say USB Root hub
    Right-click > Properties > Driver tab
should be version 5 or greater, such as 5.1.2600.2180
    Post back with any questions.
