How do I really(!!) change the default ringtone?

I have a ringtone on my IPhone 3GS which appears correctly amongst the other tones. When I click upon it, a check mark appears and the sound plays successfully. It is 29 seconds long. But when my phone rings, a different tone (which is marked 'default') is used for the ring instead of the checked one. That different one is marked 'default'. I had thought that clicking upon the ringtine sets it as the default. How can I change the default so that this tone is used instead of the one marked default. Online web instructions say that clicking ought to be enough to select the ringtone used.  When I click upon other tones listed, the 'default' designation does not change to them as well.
Although I do not believe that it is relavant, the following additional information is supplied:  Please note that this ringtone was made by me from a downloaded piece of music. Once before, I had made this into a ringtone, and that time successfuly. But I lost it when I inadvertently reset the phone. Since then, ITunes has changed four times, and this time it would not load the ringtone, even though the ITunes itself had made it. That is why I resorted to an external program. (Yes, I did follow the renaming instructions contained in some of them to verify it ended in 'R'.) An external program, IFunBox was used. It found the file, recognized it as a ringtone, and copied it into the IPhone, where it shows up as a ringtone within Settings.
I believe if I could find a way to make it the 'default', the phone would use it..
Thank you

Jon:
Dragging the thumbnails to the desktop and exporting are essentially the same process, producing copies of the full sized image file. Exporting gives you other options, however. Once you get the photos out of iPhoto you can run PhotoInfo on them and then import as new files. iPhoto will see those new files with the correct date. If you try running PhotoInfo on files already in iPhoto, you can change the EXIF Capture Date in the file but iPhoto won't recognize the changes.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

I don't think you can - there's nothing in the documentation indicating how you can change the default.  I wouldn't be surprised if there was a configuration file somewhere that contained an assembly name template, but altering it (assuming it exists) would certainly be at your own risk.

  • How do you set/change the default alarm TYPE in iCal?

I like to think I'm a power user, but this one I just can't figure out.  The question/problem is: How do you sent the default alarm TYPE in iCal?  The problem is illustrated in the picture below in the blue circled area.
Specifically, whenever I set a new event in iCal, it defaults to this window with the default alert being "Default (1 hour before)."  The one hour before is fine, but the problem is, WHAT is the default?  It seems to be just a sound, but that's not good enough to actually alert me of anything.
The goal I'm trying to achieve with this post is to determine how to CHANGE the "default" new event alert FROM "Default (1 hour before)" TO one of two alerts that I actually find useful:  I want MY "default" new event alert to be either "email" to the primary address, OR, "Message with Sound".
    Any ideas, folks?  Thanks.

Understand.  I am in the edit mode for my contact.  I see all the contact info.  There is no right click or other means to change the DEFAULT address that autofill uses (it also is first to appear if I type my name in an e-mail). For instance for a group e-mail you can change the default addresses of each contact by control-clicking on the group in Address Book. I can't seem to make the default change in my v-card.

  • How to set or change the default From Address

I have a number of email address and when i click on the "Compose a new message" the New messge always comes up showing my gmail address in From line. I have to remember to manually use the popup to select the desired address.  I have looked and cannot find a Mail option to select one of the other addresses as the default address for new messages.
Some help on how to change the default address for new messages will be appreciate.

You can drag the order of accounts in Mail preferences in the Accounts pane. Put your preferred account as the first.
Also, in the outgoing server preferences, check the box to use only the server for the selected account. Make sure the correct server is showing.
Also, if you highlight the account you wish to send from in the sidebar, that should be the active account when creating new messages.
In addition: Check the mail preferences under composing and make sure you don't have an account selected to send new messages from, or select the account you wish to always send from.

  • How do you I change the default e-mail address within a contact in Address Book

My v-card (My Card) information has 3 e-mail addresses.  My work e-mail address is the default used whenever I use autofill on a web page.  I am trying to change the default e-mail within my contact to my home e-mail address but there is no information that I can find to do this.

  • How do I *REALLY* change the date on photos?

I'm having trouble with this, and I'm sure there has to be a fix.
Let's say I took a group of photos last week. But oops, I forgot to set the date and time on my camera. So when I import the photos, iPhoto places them under April 2004 instead of June 2007.
No problem. I select all the photos, do a batch change on the date, and they now "appear" to be taken in June 2007.
But they weren't really changed. If you view the info for the photos, you'll see that they are still marked as April 2004 for the original date.
So basically iPhoto has set-up some type of filter to show the photos in 2007, even though the computer still believes they are from 2004.
This became a big problem when I imported my library to my new Mac. Perhaps I did something incorrectly, but I had quite a few imported photos that reverted back to their Original date, instead of the fake one I had set up in iPhoto. So my Library was a mess and I had to re-organize my collection.
This problem would be avoided if iPhoto really and truly changed the date timestamp on my pictures, as I asked.
I've downloaded several programs that offer photo meta editing. None of them did the job. They just changed the photo "Date Modified" to be June 2007. But if you look at their properties, they still show 2004 as the Original Date.
Mac OS X is a very smart system. Surely there is some way to truly force change the dates on photos. Afterall, they are just data in themselves. I can't imagine there isn't a way.
Can you help? Is there a work-around in iPhoto or OSX, or a separate program I can download?
    Thanks!

  • How do you globally change the default program for opening photo files?

I want to adjust my system so that when I double click a photo file, Preview does not automatically launch.  I work in Photoshop all the time and would prefer that it be the default program for pictures.  I have already changed the "when you insert a picture CD" command in CD's & DVD's in System preferences but this does not have any effect on when I double click on a picture file to open it; Preview always launches and opens the picture there.  That automatic opening behavior is fine but I need it to happen in Photoshop.

Assuming your pictures are all .jpg files: select any .jpg by clicking once on it in the Finder, then press Command+I to Get Info about it. In the Open With: section of the Get Info window, change the preferred application from Preview to Photoshop, then click the Change All button.
Now any .jpg file that you double-click will open in Photoshop.

  • How do I easily change the default credit card in Passbook for Apple Pay?

I just read online that the first credit card you enter into Passbook is automatically set as default for all Apple Pay transactions. The problem is that my preferred card was not entered first because the bank only just now made it available for Apple Pay. How do I sent this card to be the default for all Apple Pay transactions?

I think there may be a bug in 8.1.2 where iOS only recognizes the first card entered as the default card. I added two cards, but the second card never showed  up under "Transaction Details | Default Card". I removed both cards then re-entered my preferred card first, and it appeared under Default Card, but the second card entered no longer appears under "Default Card"

For sideloaded content the nook pulls the metadata from ePub file itself.  I would suggest looking at a program like Sigil or Calibre that will let you edit the metadata in the book to make it appear like you want.
For the PDF vs ePub - No, that's the way PDFs work (think of them as graphics, not text), wheres ePubs are Web Pages - so  no you can't them to behave exactly alike without converting the files.

  • How to change the default "Safe" files in Safari?

I would really appreciate if anybody could teach me how to change the default "Safe" files using AppleScripts, Folder Actions or .plist files. I really would like to have some files to open automatically after download, specially .pps files, and safari doesn't recognize such files as "safe". I tried to find out reading the help files but got lost.

  • How to change the default sorting in iTunes

    Hi,
Does anyone know how to change the default sorting method for all items in iTunes?  I use the third option for organizing the library as a whole (the one that has a list of icons for bands that you double click to show only that band's songs).  The only sorting method I use is to sort by Album by Year (ascending), this makes the most sense to me.  I can tell that iTunes is attempting to remember when I do this for certain artists, but it epically fails at maintaining this sorting pattern.
To be clear, say I open Radiohead and click through to have it sort with the above method.  Everything works great, but when I return a few days later to play Radiohead again, the sorting is not maintained.  It could be as simple as sorting in a descending direction, or could even be trying to sort by the number it was added in my library.
I'd really appreciate it if someone knew of a way (maybe even through scripts if possible / the only solution) to eliminate this problem and have every (NOT just the artists who I've told iTunes to sort a specific way) artist sort that way.
I don't know if my copy is just corrupt?  It may be, since for some artists it's started playing them in the above mentioned order they were added to my library even if I force a sort by album by year (i.e. it will go from playing a 2007 album to a 2002 album and not the 2008 album).
    Thanks!

Andrew, I know I am extremely late to the party but I too use Grid View.  I had the same problem that you had but have found this to work for me.  I used it and it is still holding as my default sorting even after switching between the Artist page and Grid View.
Once you are inside of the Artist page continue to click on the Album column until it shows Album by Artist/Year.
That will give you each album sorted by the year instead of it randomly sorting it for you each time you leave an Artist's page and then back again.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to change the default library size...

I have a PowerMac G4 with 1.25ghz and 1.25gig memory. I also have about 7500 photos, a total of about 10 gig, with about 1/3 taken with a Nikon D70. As you might guess, iPhoto (and only iPhoto) is really slow to open and close...I get the beachball for a minute or so before anything happens.
In reading topics surrounding the slowness of loading/closing iPhoto, one person suggested changing the default size of the iPhoto library...but they didn't say how? I'm assuming that this changes it so that the system doesn't need to show the whole library? This isn't just viewing the pictures as large pictures instead of thumbnails is it?
Any help would be appreciated....also, if there is another solution I'd love to hear about it.
    Thanks,
    Tom

    Thomas:
As you've read the problem comes from your Nikon camera and the MakerNotes it creates and adds to each image file. I believe you're referring to splitting up your library into smaller sub libraries. That can be done by making a duplicate of your current library, call it Lib1. Then open Lib1 with iPhoto and delete all the photos but those you want in that particular library. Make another duplicate of the original library, Lib2, and repeat the process. That way you'll have multiple smaller libraries that you can manage with either iPhoto Buddy or iPhoto Library Manager.
Eric Lindsay developed applescripts to remove the MakerNote information from the Library.iPhoto file which gets the speed back up to what it should be. However, any new imports from the Nikon will add MakerNotes.
