How do I really "Turn Off" my iPad for charging?

Here's my problem;
I understand I can charge my iPad from my lower wattage iPod (or accessory) charger if it is fully "off" not just "asleep" and this does work.
When I hold the power button on top of the iPad down, it goes to the "slide to power off screen" as it should. What happens then, is if I plug in my charger (after I power off), the little apple pops up in the center of the screen and then the screen comes back on and says "not charging" at the top.
I go through the hold the power button down process again and the screen shuts off. Is it now actually off? It seems that sometimes when I power back up, the iPad has charged and other times it hasn't.
Also, sometimes when I do this 2nd "power down", the screen will go blank and a second later a battery charge meter will pop up in the center of the screen showing battery remaining and then the screen goes blank again! Is it off now or just asleep? Usually I do another power cycle at this point to be sure it is off.
It just seems that to have to go through 3 "power off" cycles to be sure the iPad is off and charging is kinda excessive. It's a pain to lug around the iPad charger when I have accessory chargers at work, in my car, at home, basically every place I go.

I get the same thing, it's very frustrating. Whilst charging I hold down the button on the top, slide the red slider to power off, and about 5 seconds after it turns itself back on again.
This must be a software problem that will hopefully resolved in OS4 when we see it.
It makes a lot of sense to me to wish to power-off rather than sleep during charging. Surely in sleep wifi, GPS etc will be 'scanning' and slowing the charging process.
The best fix-ish I could offer is to turn on Airplane (for some reason I pronounce this air-o-plane, I wonder why?) and then sleep.
Either way it seems to take forever to charge my iPad and I feel iPad separation anxiety during this!

For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).

Could someone please tell me how to get the voice turned off my iPad and to be able to move freely around on the screen?

A double-tap acts like a single tap and you need to use three fingers to scroll when VoiceOver is on:
    Press Home.
    Tap Settings. Then double-tap Settings.
    Tap General. Then double-tap General.
Use three fingers on the screen to scroll to Accessibility.
    Tap Accessibility. Then double-tap Accessibility.
    Tap VoiceOver. Then double-tap VoiceOver.
Tap "On" next to VoiceOver. Then double-tap "On" to turn it off.

  • IPAD Mini Freezing up in installation mode as it is installing Update iOS 8.1.3 . I cannot turn off the iPAD Mini .  How do I resolve this problem?

iPAD Mini purchased for Xmas 2013 is freezing as it tries to complete the installation of the iOS update 8.1.3.  The screen his frozen on the installation mode and I cannot turn off the iPAD Mini.  How do I turn off the iPAD Mini and resolve this problem?

Try a reset, hold the power button and home button until you see the apple then let go. Also, it is iOS 8.2 that you are trying to install since that is the current version. I had no problems updating my mini today so hopefully yours will go well too.

  • P7N Diamond: How to REALLY Turn Off EIST?

I saw this mentioned in a post while I was at work, and (naturally) I can't find it now that I am at the computer...
Turning off EIST in the BIOS apparently doesn't REALLY turn off EIST.  There's some "advanced" CPU settings that need to be adjusted in the BIOS for Speedstep to really shut down.  Now that I've got my nMonitor to work, the CPU multiplier jumps up and down while I'm watching!  Can someone post the advanced settings (or post a link to the thread I must have been reading?)

I have been running SMP clients on both of my system mentioned in my signature with C1E and/or EIST enabled and there never where any problems.
I don't know what operating system you are using, so I can't assume my rig should be operating as well as yours.  There are known issues with the client and 64-bit operating systems.

Note:  If multiplier and VCore are reduced even though the processor is under full load, it may be overheating.  The CPU has a protection feature that will  make it operate at reduced speed and voltage to cool it down.
The speedstepping was not observed while the cores were under full load.  I just wanted to eliminate it as a possible problem when I DID go to full load.  The cores run at around 50c when the SMP client is running.  This is pretty cool for a quad-core at 100%.  I'm not expecting any serious heating issues unless I start overclocking.

That depends on how you have set up your Auto-Lock and Passcode Lock.
I have set Auto-Lock to 2 Minutes and Passcode Lock to Immediately.
If you want to try the same thing, then do this:
    Settings > General > Auto-Lock > 2 Minutes
Settings > General > Passcode Lock > (enter your passcode) > Require Passcode > Immediately
If you don't like those time delays, choose the ones that you prefer.
This will of course not stop any notifications to turn on the iPad's screen, if your iPad is in sleep mode.
To modify those notifications to your requirements: Settings > Notification Center

  • HT204370 I paused the movie download but did not turn off my IPad.  When I returned to restart, it has said "waiting" for over an hour.

I paused the movie download but did not turn off my IPad.  When I returned to complete the download, the "waiting" message has been on the screen for over an hour.  How can I complete the download?

I recommend purchasing lion on a USB drive at Apple Store. This will avoid all of the downloading hassles.
Also, be sure you clone your hard drive first. A lot of people want to go back to Snow Leopard and if you choose to do this cloning will make the process very easy.

  • When installing third party software, how do I temporarily turn off the factory installed virus sw and firewall?

when installing third party software, how do I temporarily turn off the factory installed virus sw and firewall?  Is it necessary on a Mac to do so?  I come from the Windows world and am still in the learning curve on the Mac.

Correct.  I have not installed ANY other software for anti-virus, etc.  I want to install a Synch app for my HTC phone to sych with MS Outlook 2011 installed on my Mac.    HTC will not synch with it otherwise.  That was really the basis for my question....if installing a non Apple app can be done without messing with factory settings on the Mac.  In Windows I remember that I needed to disable Norton and the Firewall in order for installation to occur.
    Thanks.

  • Turning off the iPad screen when synchronizing with the iTunes

Quick question: How do I turn off the iPad screen when synchronizing with the iTunes. Is this even possible? Are there settings I am overlooking? Or perhaps a third-party app which can make it happen?
I have a large library and often leave my iPad connected to iTunes for several hours at a stretch. The bright glowing screen can be a big distraction, and, more importantly I am very worried about pixel burn-in.
    Cheers,

The iPad LED Backlit IPS Screen is not phosphor-based, so there is no permanent phosphor burn-in problem. You might see some image persistence, but that is not permanent and can be corrected. See this support article about image persistence: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2807
Since you have already converted your music to 128 kbps, you are unlikely to see any more 10+ hour syncs unless you have to do a restore. In that event, you could select the brightness control in settings to the lowest level.
FYI, there are some apps, such as Night stand HD that are designed to be used for long periods with unvarying displays and I have yet to see image persistence problems reported. However, since the iPad is still a new product, there may be some reports in the future.

  • TS1398 My macbook is connected to the internet, but my iPad just stopped connecting.  I have "forgotten" the network and restarted, and I have "turned off" the iPad.  It still says it's not connected to the internet, but the wifi signal is strong.

My ipad was working, and then just said it wasn't connected to the internet.  I have forgotten the network and rejoined, I have turned off the ipad (slid on the arrow), and still no luck.  The macbook is working with no problem.  Help.

    Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
