How do I reboot to factory settings?

I have a nasty virus plus my browser has been hijacked and everything is really messed up. How do I reboot to factory settings? I was told to use fn/f11 but nothing happens.

Thank you
I have included a link to your product support page which provides instructions for performing the system recovery.  There's even a video on the page to show you the steps.  If you have any other questions I'll be glad to answer them!

    Hi @finole31
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
It is a fantastic  place to find answers and suggestions!
For you to have the best experience in the HP forum I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide Learn How to Post and More
I grasp that an automatic Windows update started but unable to finish and now it will not boot into Windows.
Here is a link to HP Notebook PCs - Use Hard Reset to Resolve Hardware and Software Issues.
Next I would try a HP PCs - Refresh Your PC to Resolve Problems (Windows 8).
If you are still unable to boot into Windows here is a link to HP PCs - Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 8).
During the recovery there is an option to backup your personal files to prevent data loss.
HP PCs - Restoring Files that were Backed Up Using HP Recovery Manager (Windows 8).

  • Z3 rebooted to factory settings while having it in my pocket, photos lost on SD card

My 3 day old Z3 rebooted to factory settings while having it in my pocket. I was out for a five hours walk and have used it serveral times during the walk to take photos. They were stored on the SD card. Battery was on 73%. At the end of my trip I noticed it asked for my pin code to unlock the sim card. I used my newly set pincode for simcard and it worked fine. The telephone was set up with screenlock as well, but that has disapeared together with all my installed programs and my photos and videos on the SD card. The lock screen goes automaticlay on after 15 sec so I find it strange that I should be able to push the right buttons, in my pocket, by just walking, to perform a factory reset?Any suggestions on why and how to restore my photos on the SD card?

This was Sony's answer to my question: Sophia:  Hi, just looking into this for you won't be long.Sophia:  I have had a read of the thread and due to the low number of people posting on the forum over the past year I ca confirm this is not a common problem. If you have already tried what has been advised on that forum and the issue has not been resolved, I advise running a software repair on your handset as this is most liekly to resolve the issue yoyu are experiencing.X:  that is Sony's answer?Sophia:  Yes.X:  and what about all the lost data and picturesX:  this is not an isolated incidentSophia:  I understand that it has been experienced before but there has been an extremely low number of people who have experienced the issue, it is not a known fault. As previously suggested, a software repair is likely to resolve the issue for you.X:  how do I recover the data that has been lost?X:  I must say, I was hoping for more support, from a support chatSophia:  Unfortunately once the data has been lost, there is no way to recover it I am very dissappointed in the level of care from Sony. Took a long time to get the final reply, and it's apparently not a known fault, so it's my problem. If it's happened to multiple people, it's a fault.

  • HT201365 how do i reset to factory settings on iPhone 4S?

how can i dump my iphone and set to factory settings?   I did a sync with itunes and after i noticed my camera and siri are gone!   its a 4s so i really hate not having these two features,  the guy at apple store had never seen it before and found my back ups to be too late and already with this strange anomoly as part of my earliest saved backup.   dont have backup that is not flawed.  he said i can dump it and start again i guess.  got my pics saved now on my hp but how do i dump my phone back to original settings?

Did you check Settings>General>Restrictions to be sure that Camera and Siri were both turned on?

  • How to restrict restoring to factory settings on iPhone 4S

    Hi,
Is there anyway to prevent my phone being restored back to factory settings if someone was to steal it without using a pass code every time I use my phone? Exactly like the restrictions but I couldn't find out how to stop them restoring my phone back to factory settings.
    Thanks

Nope. Since it looks like you are on ios7 then in order to restore you need the apple id and password you used to set it up. Anyone that steals your phone cannot restore it. Although not using a passcode is not recommended because then if it is stolen they can get all your personal information off the phone.

  • How can I restore to factory settings and wipe harddrive?

I am selling my macbookpro 2.16GHz 120GB Duo Core online and I want to be sure that any information cannot be reclaimed from the hard drive. So far I have transfered my files to an external HD and erased all files on the laptop through the trash can application, including emptying the trash. I then inserted the original install disk which I believe returned the computer to factory settings because once it is turned on it begins with the welcome/ set up screens. But I really just want to be sure that I have erased everything and that nothing can be rebuilt from the hard drive. Should I have done something else to "deep clean" it?

Boot from your OS installer disk. The one that came with the MBP. Select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Select the hard drive and then select Erase. You have several choices for the erase procedure so select the one you prefer. The more passes you select the longer the procedure will take. Then install the OS. After the last reboot when Mac Setup Assistant begins to run quit it and direct the Mac to shut down. The next time it's booted (by your new buyer) it will run again and they will have the opportunity to set it up from brand new.

Is your question here, in regard to email issues you asked about...?
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6033681?tstart=0
If these are related, then one may supersede the other; at least
until you can get the email &/or Apple ID issue squared away.
And then deauthorize your computer, etc & reset it to original.

  • HT2731 how do i restore the factory settings on ipod?

daugther put her password wrong 3 times. now blocked how do i restore factory settings?

If it's showing the red disabled screen then you will need to connect it to the computer that it's normally sync to and you should then be able to reset the iPod and restore/re-sync the content to it (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212) - you may need to put the iPod into recovery mode in order to be able to reset it : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If you do it via a different computer then :
If you restore on a different computer that was never synced with the device, you will be able to unlock the device for use and remove the passcode, but your data will not be present.

  • Reinstalled and finally got HP Dir, etc. How to undo "Restore to Factory Settings"?

Finally, a reinstall that looks great, even has HP Dir  accessable, although no desktop Icon.  Using  XP Home, SP3,
HP PSC 1310 series 1315xi,  (not s)  can't  find  My Profile  to  see  Settings options.   Clicked "Restore Factory Settings" but now would like to just try the updated install.   Can I do it without a  whole  new  reinstall, which might not come out as well as this one?   TIA.

    Hi,
It actually displays a message saying something like No return. From my understanding NO RETURN means you can't undo the Factory Restore Settings after completion of the process.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do i reset to factory settings without the disk?

I want to reset my Imac to factory settings but I do not have the disk. Is there a way to do this? If not where can I get another reset disk?

    1. If the Mac shipped with Mac OS X 10.6.3 through 10.6.8, no. If it shipped with Mac OS X 10.6.2 or earlier, you can buy and use a retail DVD; for Intel Macs, these are available on the online Apple Store. If it shipped with Mac OS X 10.7 or newer, restart with the Option, Command, and R keys held down.
    2. Phone AppleCare and order replacements, or see point 2 above.
