How do I rebuild a new Mail account? (recipients not receiving e-mails)

For the last few days, various e-mails I have sent have not reached their recipients when I send them from my Mail application. There is no pattern to whom is and is not receiving e-mails I have sent. All messages show as being Sent and I receive no bounce-back error messages. Some recipients receive e-mails days later, some all the time, some not at all. If I send e-mails using other applications on other computers, including online apps, all e-mails are received successfully by their recipients.
So, I have determined through the process of elimination (after speaking with my internet provider and Apple support) that I need to rebuild my Mail account (I've created a "test" account and the problem is fixed — everyone across the board is receiving my e-mails fine). There seems to be no idea as to what could be causing the problem, but I am hopeful that at least I know that building a new account can remedy it.
The obvious question — how to I delete my old account and create a new one without losing all of my current Inbox e-mails, customized mailboxes, smart mailboxes etc. I have no doubt this process has been outlined somewhere on this forum but after some searching I haven't found anything. If someone could point me to a previous thread, I'd greatly appreciate it.
And, out of curiosity, if anyone has any idea what could have caused this (Apple Support and Internet Provider tech support both stymied) to happen, I would be interested to know!
Thanks in advance for anyone's time.

Hi Deirdre, and a warm welcome to the forums!
For safety...
First Quit Mail, then I'd backup these two Mail folders, by right clicking on them in the Finder, then choose Archive/Compress.
Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail
Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail Downloads
(Could be a different folder here if you chose such in Mail Prefs)
Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip, move it to a safe place, same for the Mail Downloads folder... only the plist is separate.
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
Is this bad account IMAP or POP?
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move these folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup

  • One Yahoo! mail account does not receive email sent from .mac

OK, this is an odd problem, and any help would be appreciated.
My girlfriend's Yahoo! mail account does not receive email sent from my .mac address. If I send email from my Gmail or Yahoo! accounts she receives the message. No one else has informed me that they haven't received email from the .mac address. Additionally, the .mac account is in her address book.
Anyway, has anyone seen a similar pattern with Yahoo! or any other email provider?
    Thanks.
    - Jennings

Thanks for the reply . . . and yes, the recipient's email provider likely holds the answer.
However, I was hoping someone here might have had a similar experience and could answer as the email provider is Yahoo, and they are slow in responding to help requests . . . for a period I hosted a personal, paid website through Yahoo Domains and help tickets lingered for several days on multiple occasions (this being the reason the site is no longer hosted by Yahoo). I also doubt Yahoo will expend too much energy resolving a problem for a free email account.
Anyway, I posted in the Yahoo mail forums, and hopefully something will come-up . . . .

  • My ATT IMAP Mail account will not receive mail unless I rebuild the mailbox.

Hi - I have one ATT IMAP Mail account that does not receive mail promptly, often taking hours or even days to arrive unless I rebuild that particular mailbox. Another IMAP account with a different provider works fine. I have tried to figure out the problem with ATT, but they seem to think the problem is Apple Mail. I know the mail should be arriving because I can see it in in webmail, but it doesn't arrive until immediately after I rebuild. What's up with this and how do I fix it?

AT&T uses Yahoo for mail service, and Yahoo often causes problems with Mail in OS X, so there may not be a good solution. You can try the following.
Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • My mail account is not receiving my gmails. I am getting them on my iphone and ipad.  Not on the desktop anymore for some reason. Tried deleting account and adding it again.  No luck.  Suggestions?

All of a sudden I am not receiving one of my gmails on my Mac mail account.  I have a mobile me account, a cox account, a different gmail account and they all seem to be working.  I tried deleting it and adding it again.  No luck.  Not sure what happened.  I get the emails on my iphone and ipad just not coming in on my desktop for some reason.  Any suggestions?

I actually deleted the account and re-added it as an IMAP account and it seems to be working.  No idea why.  My other account is still a POP account, but it never had any issues.  Oh well.  I'm getting them again on my desktop.  Thanks for the response though!

  • IMAP mail account is not receiving emails, but sending.

I set up an IMAP mail account 2 years ago and was working properly. But a week or so ago it stopped receiving emails, but it sends out emails. I reentered my password, deleted and recreated the account but nothing changes. Can anyone help?
    Thanks.

I received email at 9:30 am then again at 11:35 EST (I am in SouthEastern PA)  Is your mailbox size anywhere near the limit?

  • Recipients not receiving my mail

I am at wit's end, and hope someone out here knows how to help because my service provider doesn't. We are using Tiger...Apple Mail throughout our office. We are getting reports back from different people both inside and outside the office, with different service providers, that they are not receiving our e-mails. Sometimes they get them and sometimes they don't. There is no consistency as to size of email or anything else. Some people we have been sending to for over a year suddenly are not getting them. We get no bounce back messages on our e-mails and they show in our sent box. Addresses have been verified, etc. Lord only knows how many we have sent that we never know have not been received. Does anyone else have these problems or know how to fix them???

Certain Internet service providers may end up getting blackisted because one or more users have been sending spam.
When that happens, other providers may block mail coming from those IP addresses.
Check Spamcop to see if that might be the case.

  • Mail Sending but NOT RECEIVING! Mail 3.6 Macbook 2009 OSX Leopard

    Hey All!
I have been having huge issues with my Mail Server for the past week and a bit now which is hard because I work from home. My Rogers Yahoo email account can no longer send emails from my Mail app on my computer. I know it is not rogers themselves because my phone email works fine. I have tried many of the suggestions so far on the forums but nothing seems to be working and I am tempted to just give up and create a entirely different email with a different provider. It seems to not be able to connect to my SMTP server. I have double and tripled check that I have all the right ports, User names and passwords and still nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
P.S. Yes I know I am greatly out-dated now but I have no money or upgrading. Unfortunate I know.

    Hi, just to confirm...
In Mail's Window Menu, choose Connection Doctor, any red dots for status, if so what is the exact message?
Then click the Show Details button & Check again.
Is your Phone connecting through your home network, or a cell tower?

Start by postng your setup for Gmail, server addresses, ports and security settings, also run connection doctor and report what it says.

  • Yahoo mail account is not supporting!

Yahoo mail account is not supported by mail aplication.

Did you ever get this working? I have the same issue. AT&T support couldn't help. Just got my new Class ic yesterday. And it looks like BB may have a bug supporting the regular Yahoo email App? This was hinted at by AT&T, not sure if true. I would love a workaround. They thought it might be the secondary verification feature so I turned it off, but still wouldn't work. I signed in thru BB World, still no success. But nobody in the forum seems to have given any help?

  • How do I get a new icloud account for my phone when it was setup with my wifes account?

How do I get a new icloud account for my phone when it was setup with my wifes account?

Go to Settings>iCloud and sign out. Any synced data, such as calendars and contacts, will be removed.
To get a new ID: go to http://appleid.apple.com and create a new ID - you will need a different non-Apple email address from any ID you already have.
Then go back to Settings>iCloud and sign in there, enabling any data types you want to sync in the list there. You will be asked to create a new @icloud.com address when enabling Mail.
