How do i reclaim harddrive space once songs are uploaded

I was running out of hard drive space on my PC. My music is taking like 40GB. I bought a icloud subscription. So I uploaded all my music to icloud but it freed no space on my hard drive. What do i have to do to reclaim spacenow that my music appears to be in the clouds.

Your description sounds as though you are not signed into Match, did you suscribe? ($25 per year)
If you did
In iTunes go to the store menu and check your Match status.
Post screenshots (it's easy, when you are posting you must use the camera tool in the toolbar), press it, point it at your picture, if it doesn't take do it again.
Don't delete anythng yet.

    Hi gdogk,
If there was an interruption during the initial iTunes Match process and you are now having issues with playback and album art, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful. In particular, you may want to turning iTunes Match off, then back on again, as noted here:
If iTunes Match is already enabled on your computer or device, try turning iTunes Match off and then on again.
Mac: While holding down the option key, choose Store > Turn Off iTunes Match.
Turn iTunes Match on by selecting Store > Turn On iTunes Match.
Windows: While holding down the shift key, choose Store > Turn Off iTunes Match.
Turn iTunes Match on by selecting Store > Turn On iTunes Match.

  • How can I 'fill free space with songs' AND keep some memory free?

I like the 'automatically fill free space with songs' option, but it leaves me with no room (or very little room) for taking photos and video.  How can I keep some memory free?

You'll probably need to backup or clone the remaining OS X partition, definitely clone the bootcamp partition then erase and reformat the drive. You'll need a 3rd party app.

  • How do I reclaim disk space, no longer using Software Update Server

    Hi All,
Hopefully a straight forward and simple question, but after searching for quite some time I’m unable to find an answer.  I am currently running OS X Mavericks Server 10.9.1 along with Server 3.0.2.  Among other services I have the Software Update Server enabled and it has been enabled and running since back in Lion 10.7.  I figured I would try the new Caching service which is “supposed” to provide similar functionality to the SUS but also include other new capabilities.  At any rate I had long ago configured the SUS to store the updates on a large RAID volume I have attached to the system (the ability to do that has been absent from the GUI for a long time now but it does migrate with updates).  At any rate I have STOPPED the SUS and using the “serveradmin” changed the “updatesDocRoot” back to the now default location of “/Library/Server/Software Updates/Data”, not that it matters since the service isn’t running nor will it be but incase I enable it again someday.  I have also moved the swupd.conf and swupd.plist files in “/Library/Server/Software Updates/Config” to .old files to back them up/delete them just in case. So now I have a bunch of updates stored on my RAID in a directory that I would like to delete to reclaim the space, however I’m a bit apprehensive to do so since I have not seen anywhere in the SUS documentation I’ve read that it is “safe” to do so.  The point being that someday if I chose to re-enable SUS that I don’t end up with a bunch of problems to deal with.
So 1) can I just go and delete the directory where SUS had been putting the updates?  2) have I missed anything that would bite me if I choose to re-enable SUS using it default directory?
    TIA
    Ron

The answer should be that you are fine.  The structure of the folder should contain a Data/html path.  Inside the html path is all the downloads.  You should be able to delete the contents of the html folder and be perfectly content.  Purging the contents used to be a troubleshooting tactic.

  • How can it that half of my songs are matched in iTunes Match where the other songs from the same CD (ripped by Itunes) are not matched but uploaded?

I started with ITunes Match a few days ago (I have the latest versions of all OS's etc)
    - The whole process took more then two days to complete for the first time.
    - Half of my songs are matched in iTunes Match where the other songs most of the time from the same CD (most ripped by ITunes) are not matched but uploaded(?)
    - Complete CD's are not recognized, they are however available in the ITunes store (songs in my library not available in ITunes are an exception).
    - The match part overall is less then 50%, which is a complete disappointment.....
    - When I activate ITunes Match on my IPod, IPhone and IPad the art-work does not load or only partly.
    - Loading songs on iOS is extremely slow... and that is definitely not due to my internal network.
    - ICloud (ITunes Match) on the apple TV stops working after every 15 seconds because it losses connection to the ITunes server....
I am a real Apple fan for the last decade but what a disappointment is this......before I started with ITunes Match everything worked seamlessly.

The number of Songs that 'matched' is simply a function of the current iTunes Match service process.  It is not unusual to have multiple Songs in an otherwise perfectly matched album be uploaded - often it is very possible to find the album in the iTunes Store.
The Artwork does tend to reappear for many over a few days / weeks - however, if your library backup has all Artwork present it would be wise to save the Album Art separately and reapply to Albums not showing art work in the library grid view.
Many of the other performance issues you mention are not typical - though during the past working week or so the Apple Infrastructure has been very heavily loaded with multiples countries having service go-live symultaneously.

  • How do I edit a document once it is uploaded to a shared workspace?

I have uploaded a Word document to a shared workspace but cant figure out how to
edit the document.  When I click on the document it opens in a seperate window but the document is not editable.  Buzzword does not give me the option to open this document.  If I open Buzzword and try to open the file from there it launches Acrobat.com again.  I must be missing something. Any help appreciated.

    Hello there,
Thank you for posting your question to the Acrobat.com forum. The answer is to IMPORT the document - not upload it. When you upload a .doc or .docx file, you can share or preview the file, but not edit it. When you import it, Acrobat.com will automatically convert it to Buzzword format for further editing and collaborative authoring (if you like). The "Import" command can be found in your organizer view or, within a Buzzword document, in the "Document" menu. If you need more information, there's a video here in which we discuss previewing files on Acrobat.com:

Just let me know if you have any more questions.

  • How to keep an Album together if Songs are by different Artists

Many albums include different artists or variations of artists (e.g. JohnSmith and JohnSmith & MaryJane).  Currently, by "default," these such an album is split into two or more albums in the Library.
What steps/selections are necessary to keep albums as single units?
    Thanks for your time.

Generally setting a common Album Artist will fix things.

  • Only certain songs are uploading to my phone

When I sync my phone to my iTunes, only a portion of my library is showing up on the iPod.

Thanks for the reply but it doesn't really work.
Once I unselect any tracks in the "smart playlist" they also unselect in my the "main" itunes. Which means when I go to listen to these tracks on my Mac, they won't play in the "main" itunes automatically without manually clicking on each one of them (those that have been unselected) and obviously vice versa for listening to music on the "smart playlist".
    Does that make any sense?
I feel that I don't have full control over how I'm interacting with my music. It would seem, to do this, I need a seperate player for listening to music on my Mac, and itunes for syncing music back and forth on my iphone.

  • What causes my images to be reduced in Kb size once they are uploaded?

I'm not complaining (since it makes my page load faster) but most of my images are 10K and when I try to reduce them smaller they look blurry. But when I upload my 10K images (I use Godaddy) they turn into 1K size and look great!  How is that possible? I am looking at the sizes by using the firefox web developer toolbar.

FF Web Dev Toolbar shows image sizes/weights

  • ITunes tells me my songs are all "Unchecked".  What does this mean?

Should I "Check" all my songs?  If so, how do I do it?  (All songs are on Windows Vista.)

That's consistent with all the tickboxes to the left of the tracks (in List view) being unchecked.
Go into List view and Ctrl-click one of the empty boxes to do a "global recheck".
If you can't see the tickboxes, head into your General preferences tab and select "Show list tickboxes" as per the following screenshot:

  • HT2729 I have limited space on my new ipad. How can I limit the number of songs from my itunes on my imac from going to my ipad when I connect the two?

I have limited space on my new ipad. How can I limit the number of songs from my itunes on my imac from going to my ipad when I connect the two?

you can do this by keeping the external hard drive connected and doing the following
-hold shift key down on computer while opening iTunes and a prompt will appear to choose a library
-select choose library, iTunes should bring up your explorer windows where you can search for the external HD
-after you find the external HD find the iTunes folder you just copied to it
-after opening the iTunes folder look for the file that says iTunes library.itl or if you can't see that extenstion just look for a document looking thing in the iTunes folder that shows up as a database file
-double click the database file and boom iTunes should load your library without having to copy it to the computer
PS: do make sure that if you are going to do it this way, make sure that the external HD is connected at all times, because if you don't then you will get exclamation marks next to your iTunes songs
double PS: if you are unsure how to find out if the iTunes library file is a database file just right click it and choose properties and under the type it should say database file
    hope this helps:)

how can i delete a bunch of songs at once? Like the ones with the exclamation mark? without having to click control and click on all 1050 songs?

As long as they are in a continuous range, select the first, then hold SHIFT and click on the last. All in between will be selected. You can also use CTRL-click to add or remove individual songs from the selection. When you are ready you can delete the selection.
You might find iTunes Folder Watch useful if your missing files are scattered randomly through the library.
