How do I reconnect iphoto to my library

I am using iphoto 2 and recently opened it to find a blank library. I went to the pictures folder and my library is intact with all my photos in it. I tried to open iphoto while pressing the option key but I receive no prompt to search for the library. In addition I started iphoto with the shift and option key and rebuilt the library. Unfortunately it rebuilt the library with no pictures and installed it in the picture folder with a new title 'Iphoto Library_1'
Can someone please help?
imac   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

If you're absolutely certain that "iphoto library_1" is completely empty, drag it to the trash in its entirety.
Then, open iPhoto. It won't know where to find the library. Direct it to the correct one.

  • How do I copy iPhoto 7.1 Library from Intel to PPC Mac and back

    Hello all
I apologize for the long first post; but I've been lurking for a while and haven't seen a similar problem. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
I have two Macs - a PowerBook G4 and an Intel Mini. I copied the 6.x Library from the PB to the Mini. The copy was successful - no issues. I upgraded iLife on both machines successfully: both machines opened the 6.x Library and updated it the 7.0.1 Package Library. All was well.
I updated both machines to iPhoto 7.1. All was well.
I updated the PB to 7.1.1 + all the recent updates. All was not well! The Library seemed to be corrupted! When I clicked on a thumbnail I would see the photo "zoom" but then I'd see a black window. Clicking again would unzoom and I'd again see all the thumbnails. If I tried to export a photo Preview couldn't view it because it was "corrupt" or should be opened by another application.
After numerous troubleshooting steps - repairing permissions, deleting preferences, trying to rebuild the thumbnail caches, rebuild the Library, recover lost photos etc I gave up.
I've wiped the PB clean and installed Leopard and iPhoto 7.1 - not 7.1.1.
Now I want to copy the iPhoto Library from the Mini (also iPhoto 7.1). I tried copying the package across the network by "Connect to server" in Finder but that produced the same "corrupted" symptoms. (Thumbnails would zoom to black window.)
    So here's the question(s):
Are there any incompatibilities between Intel/G4 versions of the iPhoto apps or Library Packages?
What is the best way to manually copy the Library from the Mini to the PB? And back?
I use the PB on the road and on vacation to capture my 'photos; but I like to display them on my HDTV connected to my Mini - hence my need to periodically copy the Library from the PB to the Mini.

    No.
What is the best way to manually copy the Library from the Mini to the PB? And back?
    Try using Firewire target mode.

  • HT204414 How to import both iPhoto and Aperture library to iCloud Photo Library (Photos app)

    Hi all,
Based on the article here (Designate a System Photo Library in Photos - Apple Support) has anyone tried to bring both an iPhoto and Aperture library into iCloud Photo Library so that both libraries are available as one in iCloud and form the one Photos app library rather than being seen as separate libraries. I don't want the two separated as I have 200GB's of space in iCloud which is plenty to hold the two's collective space of about 40GB's.
It seems as though the procedure is pretty simple.
First of all set one of your libraries as the System Photo Library, this will happen naturally with setting up Photos app for the first time. I chose iPhoto as the original library.
Let this library upload all it's photo's to iCloud over a few minutes, hours, days etc.
When finished, enter your other library by closing Photos app and reopening while holding down the Option key (usually Alt). In this case I now opened the Aperture library that it had found.
Under Preferences > iCloud set this library as the System Photo Library and in turn it will have the ability to upload to iCloud.
When it's finished I suppose you will have both iPhoto AND Aperture pictures in the one iCloud Photo Library.
At least I hope the above makes sense.
Anybody already tried this with good / bad results, let us know here.

found it here  - 'If you designate a new library as the System Photo Library and then turn on iCloud Photo Library, the photos and videos in the new library will merge with those already in your iCloud Photo Library. If you want to keep the contents of your photo libraries separate, don’t turn on iCloud Photo Library for more than one library in Photos.'
That bit seems clear. You can merge photos from different libraries by making them 'designated' first  .
BUT  this means that Photos app only shows you library A , or library B, depending on which one you have opened , but Icloud library contains photos from Both library A and library B .
    is this correct ?
and if so, does it not get a but confusing ?!?

  • How do I reconnect to an iTunes Library onan external Drive?

I have a huge iTunes library comprised of 10,000's of songs and 1000's of  videos. I keep this library on an 8TB  Raid 5 network attached storage device. I reciently had a catestrophic hard drive crash on the computer running my iTunes application (the local HD on my computer, not the network drive which is reasonably imune to an HD failure). Everything is gone from that computer's drive except for the files in scope of my automatic backups. There are two locations on my external hard drive that are candidates for the location of the iTunes files:
    M:\Music\iTunes and
    M:\SharedFiles\Music\iTunes.
Location #1 looks to be an early version of my library prior to consolidation into the "SharedFiles" location. My delemma is that I have attempted to point my iTunes (on my replacement computer)  to location #2 and I don't get any of my library files. I am running Windows 7 (the old computer was running Vista). Looking at the M:\SharedFiles\Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.xml file (using a text edditor) In the first "<dict>" record I see: "<key>Music Folder</key><string>file://localhost/M:/SharedFiles/Music/iTunes/iTunes%20Music /</string>". So, thinking that was the "iTunes Media Folder" I pointed my iTunes application to that folder. I used Edit->Preferences->Advanced to change the location of my library. This resulted in an empty iTunes (no music,no movies,no devices).
One thing I noticed  is  that  before changing the iTunes folder was pointing to a default location of "C:\Users\Bill\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media". However, I do not have an "iTunes  Media" folder at either location #1 or #2. Under location #2 I see sub-folders for "Album Artwork", "Automatically Add to iTunes", "iTunes Music", and "Previous iTunes Libraries". Within  the "iTunes Music" sub-folder I see a "Movies" folder with sub-folders for all  of my  movies, and a "Music" folder with sub-folders for all of my music.
After all of this, my question is: How do I connect my new iTunes application to my networked  iTunes Library?

    I figured it out!
After setting the iTunes Library to M:/SharedFiles/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music, I then used File->Library->Import Playlist and then navigated to M:/SharedFiles/Music/iTunes and added it. This then went to work for an hour or so reading my entire library. After that I connected to iCloud, Match, shared with home network, and connected to iTunes Store. I am now watching my movies on my big screen using Apple TV again.

  • Don't know how to share my iPhoto 7.1 library with both accounts on my iMac

This may be a stupid question, and the answer is probably staring me in the face. I've been importing pictures into iPhoto and arranging the events. It's all good, but I want the other account on my Mac to be able to see, edit and use the same library. I have personal file sharing turned on. I just used the default pictures folder.
Can someone help me with this?
    thank you....
    /michael

Hi Michael, it's not a stupid question! Have a look at Apple's info. on this and also a longish thread on the same problem.

    and the thread .. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5547545
    Good luck with that!

  • ITunes musical library located on a WD 2TB, ext. drv. Computer destroyed by virus; ED survived. Bought new laptop, connected ED. Not able to see library. ED shows as 'G:' 95% full. How can I reconnect my old library to new laptop?

I had my iTunes musical library on an ext. drv. WD 2TB, ‘MY BOOK ESSENTIAL'. Three weeks ago, my computer was infected by a virus that fried it. It did not affect the external drive. I bought a new computer: a laptop, Dell XPS, Intel Core i7-2630QM CPU, Windows 7 Home Premium. I have been able to connect the WD external drive; however, I am not able to see the musical library in my iTunes or Explorer. ‘My Computer’ shows the external drive as ‘G:’ 95% full. It reads, 32.1 GB free of 1.36 TB. When I click on the drive to see its contents, it shows nothing. The library in iTunes also shows nothing. Can anyone help, please? How can I reconnect my old musical library to my new laptop and iTunes? Many thanks.

Hmm, viruses don't generally "fry" drives. They can make bootable operating systems not bootable, hide data, and corrupt executable files. Software can potentially wipe all the data from the drive but it shouldn't be able to physically damage the drive. Bah! What's done is done.
As to unhiding your files assuming they are just hidden....
Hit Start > Run, type in CMD and press enter. Type the following at the prompt and then press enter:
    attrib -h -s -r g:\*.* /d /s
This tells windows to clear the hidden, read-only, and system flags from all files on the drive, assuming of course your profile has the power to "see" the files and change them.
If that doesn't work then you may need to take ownership of the drive first. The drive may have security settings that make it "belong" to an account on your old system. Right-click on the drive in Windows Explorer and click Properties. Click the Security tab, the Advanced button, the Owner tab, then the Edit tab. Make yourself the owner, then you can make any other changes to the security settings you want to back on the Permissions tab. (If you can't change the owner log out and log back in as Administrator). For iTunes your account (or everyone) and SYSTEM need full access to all files. Any changes you make should be applied to "This folder, subfolders and files", should be inheritable and you should also replace the permissions on all child objects.

  • How do I reconnect files referencing my iPhoto library?

Hi, I have a bunch of files that I've imported from iPhoto but Aperture is saying are offline.  I know I have to reconnect them to the masters in the iPhoto library, but when I try, using the Locate Referenced File command, the "iPhoto Library" at the bottom pane doesn't show me the folder structure to locate the file.  i.e. iPhoto Library > Masters > etc. > etc.
How can I reconnect images that are referening my iPhoto Library?
    Thanks!!
    Sal.

iPhoto stores pictures in a combined package file. To archive part of your library, you would have to select the photos and export them.

  • How to choose an iPhoto Library to sync in iTunes?

I have 3 iPhoto Library in my Mac. I want to sync my iPhone with one of them, but I don't know how to choose in iTunes the right Library.
In this moment I have one selected, but it's not the one I want.
    Can anyone help me?
    thanks

Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down, click on Choose Library, and specify the one you want to sync. iTunes will only sync the iPhone with the iPhoto library set as the default in iPhoto.

  • How to share administrator iPhoto library with other users on same iMac?

How to share administrator iPhoto library with other users on same iMac?

This is the part I'm referring to:
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Any user can drag a pic from the Shared Library to their own in the iPhoto Window.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
The library stays in the Pictures folder for this.

  • Can some please provide instructions on how to import an iPhoto library from an old Mac to a new Mac without getting a bunch of duplicates?  I tried transferring my pictures using an external hard drive and then copying it to the Pictures folder on my Mac

Can someone please provide instructions on how to import an iPhoto library from an old Mac to a new Mac without getting a bunch of duplicates?  I tried transferring my pictures using an external hard drive and then copying it to the Pictures folder on my new Mac.  I ended up getting a bunch of duplicates. My old Mac has an older version of iPhoto while the new Mac has iPhoto '11.  Is that the cause of the problem?  Please advise.  Thanks.

Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
    Then launch iPhoto. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.

  • How Can I Share iPhoto Library/Keywords Among Multiple Users

Hi there! I am having a bit of a dilemma where I am trying how I can have several users access a shared iPhoto library (as well as retain their own personal iPhoto libraries). Basically, I have a handful of (three) users that need to be able to store/search against a common shared photo library - ideally, in iPhoto.
I understand that I can share albums through iPhoto (users are using a mix of iPhoto '08 and '09) on one account as long as iPhoto is running - a serious drawback. When I tried sharing photos via this method I was able to see the shared albums; however the keywords that were defined for those photos were not available. This presents two questions:
    1) Can iPhoto share its library among multiple users (including keywords, etc) so that if a user account (let's call it "media") shares out selected albums that the viewing users (user1 and user2) can search against the keywords in the host library? Or is this not possible with iPhoto?
    2) Is there another way of sharing photos that is more efficient and can be hosted on our private servers? The interface in iPhoto is amazing - and if there was an application that allowed for that same sort of feel/tagging we would be good to go...

Well here is the weird thing. If I was sharing out the library from my computer, I could search for the keywords (and obtain results) as expected. However, if I went to another computer that was viewing my shared library, searching by the same keyword did not return any results.

  • How do you import photos from a library on an external drive to the current library running in iPhoto?

How do you import photos from a library on an external drive to the current library running in iPhoto? I have a few different pictures in each library and would like to have all my pictures in both libraries. The library on the external drive is my backup. I would appreciate any help.

Depends on exactly what you want to do.
Just move some of the Photos? FIle -> Export from one and export the shots to the Finder. Then import them to the other.
    This User Tip
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921
has details of the options in the Export dialogue.
Move the photos and all versions and metadata: use iPhoto Library Manager it's the only way to do this while preserving everything. Merge two Libraries into one?
If you have Aperture 3.3 or later and iPhoto 9.3 or later you can merge libraries with Aperture.
Otherwise the only way to merge Libraries is with the paid ($20) version of iPhoto Library Manager

  • I lost an xcel doc. Tried to find the Library folder in Users not there when use Finder. But when trying to upload a photo, iphoto found the library folder I can see my doc in Office 2011 Autorecov, but can't access it! How do I get User to show Library

I lost an xcel doc a couple of days ago. Tried to find the Library folder in Users but not there when I use Finder (even when I do shift-command-G). But when trying to upload a photo in iphoto I found the library folder in Users. I can see my doc in Office 2011 Autorecovery, but can't access it! How do I get User to show Library then I can get to my long lost document?

The auto recovery dat should be in the Microsoft User Data folder in your documents folder, not in the Library. However, I Haven't had to look recently.

  • How do I share iphoto library between two computers

I have a MacBook Pro 15 and an iMac. Most of my pictures and movies are loaded onto my MacBook, but some are on the iMac. I want to combine these onto an external drive (which should free up space on both HD's) and use the external drive for all my pictures and movies. How do I go about doing this and getting both iPhoto's on each computer to look at the external drive when opened?
    Thanks!

    1. Use the paid version ($20) of iPhoto Library Manager to merge the libraries. It's the only way to do this.
    2. Make sure the external is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Set it to ignore permissions and then pow the merge Library on it.
    3. From each machine in turn: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and point iPhoto at the Library.
    Some caveats:
    1. Iphoto is not a server or multi-user application. One one machine can access the Library at a time.
    2. Connecting via wireless is fine if all you're doing is viewing. If you're trying to edit the Library (that is, make albums, move photos around, keyword, make books or slideshows etc.) or edit individual photos in it via Wireless be very careful. Dropouts are a common fact of wireless networking, and should one occur while the app is writing to the database then your Library will be damaged. Simply, I would not do this with my Libraries.
