How do I record HDR Toning setups as Actions?
I've tried to save specific setups within an Action script but while I can call the HDR Toning panel up, the settings are not remembered.
Have you tried using ScriptingListener.plugin to record the process?
Does it produce Action Manager code?

How to change default HDR toning with 32 bit smart object - 16 bit, when not merging
Suppose I have just done this:
Opened a RAW file as a 16-bit smart object through camera raw, so I can easily go back and change raw parameters if needed
Converted the document to 32 bit mode
Set 32-bit preview mode to Highlight Compression
Added a Curves layer and fiddled with the sliders until satisfied
So far so good.
Now what I would like to do is envelope/convert these two layers into a smart object, and then change the mode to 16 bit with a Highlight compression method, but WITHOUT merging the smart object. Merging leaves me with one flattened non-smart layer. Obviously I don't want to merge, because all the smartness of the previous (32 bit) smart object, and I cannot go back to the equally smart raw file.

After chosing "merge layers", an impressive dialog box is displayed with 4 toning methods. When NOT merging, nothing is displayed, and Exposure/Gamma seems to be silently used. Fine in some cases, but not now. It seems one cannot change that, or choose another one of the 4 methods. But perhaps someone has figured out a way to "will" it in another direction?

I'm using Photoshop CS5, x64, latest patch (12.0.4). And ACR 6.4.1 to open a Raw file as a smart object in Photoshop.
Step 2: correct, I used Image->Mode->32bit
Step 3: I set the 32bit preview mode by clicking View->32-bit Preview Options->Highlight Compession
Setp 4: I'm mistaken here, I added a Levels layer, because Curves are indeed unavailable in 32 bit mode.
While I'm at it:
Step 5: Then, I would select these 2 layers in the layers pane and convert them to a smart object (right click in layers pane -> convert to smart object)
Step 6: Next step would be Image->Mode->16-bit. It would then ask to have the layers merged or not before changing bit depth. Only if you choose merge, the HDR toning dialog box would appear, from which you can select Exposure&Gamma, Highlight Compession, Local Adaptation and so on.
I don't want to merge, because it will destroy the smart object containing the Levels layer and the original raw file (in a smart object)
So I select "Don't merge". It doesn't show the HDR toning dialog, and goes straight in 16-bit mode. But what toning mode did it choose? By comparing the result you get when not merging, to the result when one does merge, it appears a default toning mode of Exposure&gamma is chosen. That's not what I want, because I would like to have Highlight Compression.
But where can I change this behaviour? -
HDR toning changes after closing it

I am trying to learn what can be done using HDR Toning in Photoshop CS5. At first I was impressed by its capabilities. I was working on a photograph of a train in a wooded valley in eary spring (before most leaves were out), with bright sunlight coming from almost straight overhead. So, the top of the train and the ballast in front of the train are very bright, the woods to the sides were shadowed, and the sides and nose of the train were in deep shadow. HDR Toning seemed to be giving me very nice control over adjusting the various tones. But when I closed the HDR Toning window, PhotoShop thought for a couple of seconds, and then changed my image, making it much darker than it was when the window was open!
What's going on here? Is this expected behavior? How can I get HDR Toning to keep my photograph from changing after I close the window?

The phone company was here working on something while I was gone. They sat down at my computer (iMac) and since then HDR toning doesn't work. Get the code: Error 48: File or folder does not exist. Line: 11 -> $.evalFile(g_StacScriptFolderPatch + "StackSupport.jsx"); How can this be fixed?
Go to //Applications/Adobe Photoshop [Version]/Presets/ Scripts/Stack Scripts Only/ and see if StackSupport.jsx is there. If it is not, uninstall and reinstall Photoshop to have it added back in. If it is there, first try recreating the Photoshop Preferences (hold down Command+Option+Shift while launching Photoshop).

Let me be sure I understand what you need. You want to connect an audio device to the Audio In port of your MBP and record its output with the MBP.
If that's correct, what you need is audio editing software. You can use GarageBand, which probably came bundled with your MBP, but it's a bit heavy for that purpose alone. A better tool is the free audio editor Audacity. It's powerful and cross-platform, which means that it's a little rougher around the edges than is usually the case with Mac software, but you can't beat the price. There are others (Sound Studio, Amadeus Pro, TwistedWave, Wave Editor, and more), but you can get going with Audacity. -

Are you using an external audio controller or the line-in and headphone jacks on the side of your computer? You shouldn't have an issue using headphones when you're recording through the line-in but you may want to make sure you have monitoring on and it's going to the right place.
If you're using an external audio controller, try making an aggregate device combining the controller and the "built-in output" into the same device. Go to Applications/Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup, click the "+" sign at the bottom left to make a new device and check the "use" boxes to the left of the physical devices you want to use as part of that aggregate device. That is how I use the computer's speakers or headphones to monitor my input as opposed to only being able to use the output on my audio controller.
Now that I see some of the questions on the side of this page I realize that the 13" MBPs seem to have only one combined input/output jack... That is an incredibly stupid feature. What on Earth could possibly justify that design decision? I suppose if that's the problem you're having you'll have to buy some sort of splitter (if they even make them) or get an external audio controller like an Apogee Duet or something along those lines. I would be furious if they combined those two jacks on all of the MBPs. -
Hi, first time poster here...just recently got into timelapse photography and have been batch processing away to my hearts content. I have one scene that looks unbelievable with the "surrealistic" HDR toning preset. However, I record my action and set up the folders and set it to go, but it seems to want me to click "ok" after filtering each photo...there's 1685 of them, so not very keen on that.
I googled it before posting here and there is one other post online about it, but they start talking about scripts and I have no idea where they are or what to do with them...
Any advice? Many thanks.

In case you haven't guessed already it's for an HDR time lapse film I'm making. I'll then be taking the images to photomatix for more processing - a whole other forum to visit then...

HDR Toning Window size problems
In Photoshop CC, if I go Image > Adjustments> HDR toning, the HDR toning window comes up only showing the first line. It will not let me scroll down, maximize, or resize. How can I fix this?
The HDR Toning window is not user resizable or scrollable. It should resize itself to fit the contents, which can grow or shrink based on what sections are expanded or contracted.
Is enough of the window visible to click on the arrow at the left of the Edge Glow section? Does the window expand or contract to respond to the Edge Glow section growing and shrinking?
You might post a screenshot of what you’re seeing.
You might try tweaking the Advanced Graphics options in Preferences / Performance.
You might try reseting your Photoshop preferences. -
Asking PS for HDR Toning from format plugin
Hi,
In order to save HDR file in my own format I need to have 8bit tonepapped version of it as well as original HDR data.
Is there any way to cal PS "HDR Toning" from my format plugin and get result of it?
I appreciate any ideas...No, that data is not available. The only time it would be available is when recording the toning command.
In 32 bit, there is no toning.
In 8 bit, the toning has already been applied. -
Photoshop crashes every time I try to use "HDR Toning" option or text tool... WHYYYY???
So i hit the little "T" text tool, and i get the generic Windows 7 "This program has encountered a program and needs to close" error. I click out of the error box, and all my work disappears as well as any changed preferences and recently opened files. The same happens when i try to use Image>Adjustments>HDR Toning. Yay. And what's funny is BOTH errors display a fault module of "CoolType.dll." ARGH.
I have tried EVERYTHING that everyone has posted about on every computer-related forum that i could find. NOTHING has worked at all. I deleted every single font minus the system fonts, including anything mentioning them in the system registry. Tried new copy of the dll file, nothing. Reset Photoshop preferences, nothing. System restore failed. Uninstall/reinstall of entire Adobe Master Collection failed. I am about to throw my computer through a wall.
Oh, and in the 32-bit version, HDR Toning works but the text tool gives me an error message that "something prevented the text engine from being initialized." And, well, i just don't want to use the 32-bit version.
I have a lot of work to get done, so if someone could help me find the answer to this issue once and for all, that would be awesome. Thanks.Details matter. Note that some of the dates/sizes differ from the fonts in my list.
You have several in there from before Windows 7 was released, and some of the fonts have been updated since Windows 7 was first released via Windows Updates. These are the fonts on my working system that correspond to those you listed. The differences are highlighted in red.

I don't know what methods you're using to restore fonts to what they were when your system was new, but you've not been complete about it.
I have a test system here that has had nothing but Windows 7 freshly installed and SP1 added. I got a full listing of all the fonts shipped with Windows that should be on your system. It has SIGNIFICANTLY more fonts in it than your system now has. You need to strive to make your list of fonts better match this list:

Thanks.Go to //Applications/Adobe Photoshop [Version]/Presets/ Scripts/Stack Scripts Only/ and see if StackSupport.jsx is there. If it is not, uninstall and reinstall Photoshop to have it added back in. If it is there, first try recreating the Photoshop Preferences (hold down Command+Option+Shift while launching Photoshop).

How Do I record My Business Skype-to-Phone Calls?
I've been using 3rd party recording devices for a long time, and suddenly my audio files are just now going crazy. When I try recording we are speaking over each other on the recordings. I've tried downloading almost all the recommended 3rd party recording devices listed here https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA12395/how-can-i-record-my-skype-calls but nothing is working properly.
Callnote, MP3 Skype Recorder, iRecorder, iFree Skype Recorder, G-Recorder and a few others are just not working.
Is anyone successfully recording their audio from skype to phone conversations? Please help. I'm loosing money and need to resolve this immediatly.

Hi, How do I export HDR photos made on a macpro with photoshop cs5 onto a flashdrive so they can be imported correctly into a windows machine that doesn't have photoshop installed on it? Already exported to a HP flashdrive but they do not even show up on a windows machine. Need that capabillity since this is for commercial printing. My wife's mac laptop only shows 3/4 of the picture the rest is grayed out. Adobe support claims it is a Apple problem. Love the finger pointing and hold me blameless atitude on their part. Told them creating a picture should be like gas that can be used in anybody's car, just not their Adobe equipped ferrari. Do I need to convert the file struture so it can be read by the window machine? How would I do that ? Any comments appreciated. Doug
I certainly wouldn't expect to read native PS CS5 files with all features intact and supported on a machine that doesn't have CS5 installed. Try saving the files as flattened (no layers) TIFFs before moving them to the flash drive and trying to open them on the Windoze box.
