How do I record tv shows off my HDTV to my macbook?

Is there a particular app that I can use to record tv shows off my HDTV? I don't think I can use iMovie because the highest OS X my macbook supports is lion (7, not mountain lion 8). My Macbook is from early 2008 and the model number is a1181.

Unless you have a very unusual TV it is not sending out anything that your MacBook can take in. What you want is to get the TV signal at its source, such as your cable TV box and send that to your MacBook. You would need something like ElGato's EyeTV HD for this.

You need an external microphone interface, 'good' microphones require more than a 1/8th socket can provide. Look for USB microphone preamplifiers on Google.
This is the Blue Icicle, it can be bought for about $40, it is my favorite cheap preamp. XLR balanced input (all good mics use this connection method) and USB out, get 2 if you are planning on stereo, or go to the Blue website for more info.

IPad is full....how do I get tv shows off?

I only have 221MB free of iPad space and my capacity is 13.8GB. I don't have much on my iPad, but I have been trying to download 23 episodes of a tv show onto it. It looks like all but 6 will fit. So my question now is how in the world do I clear the episodes off my iPad so that I have more space? And then I'm ASSUMING that I can go inti iTunes and redownload them 1 at a time when I need them since they will be/should be in the cloud?!?! As a side note, I have 4.1GB available storage in the cloud so it just seems to be an internal iPad storage issue. Please help!!!!!

Whether you can re-download TV shows depends upon what country that you are in (it's not possible in all countries), and whether they they remain in the store (content providers occasionally remove their items). You can copy your purchases to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases (File > Devices > Transfer Purchases on iTunes 11) and you can then take your backup of them.
You can delete a tv show (or film) off the iPad by pressing and holding it on the selection screen, and after a second or two it should get an 'x' on its top left corner - tap that and it should delete.

Is this what you are doing and it does not work?
When you are in the Videos App - tap on the TV shows tab at the top of the screen. Tap the Edit button in the upper right corner. Tap the X that pops up on the TV show icon.
If that doesn't work, go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Videos. Tap the Edit button in the upper right corner and then tap the red circle to the left of the TV episode and the red delete button will pop up. You can swipe across the episode in there to get the red delete button as well.
You can also connect the IPad to your computer and unsync the TV episodes - if they were synced to the iPad from iTunes in the first place.
As far as not being able to delete the episodes in the videos app, you can try quitting the app completely and restart the iPad and then try again. You should be able to remove them right in the videos app.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the videos app icon. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.

Then I press the play arrow, switch back to GarageBand audio recording, hit the record button, and let the song play. But I always miss the first few seconds of the playback.
If I try to start the GarageBand Audio recording first, then switch to Safari and start the playback, I see a red bar along the top of the Safari screen that says Garage Band is recording, but then the red bar flickers. When I check my recording, I find that GarageBand has stopped recording the playback at that flicker.
Also, the best settings I could figure out for recording from Safari were to add a whole bunch of bars, more than I need, turn of the metronome and count in, so I am ignoring the GB bar structure.

Download from soundcloud just gave me a playback bar with iPad Safari. But on a windows 7 desktop and Firefox, download from SoundCloud saved the SC file to downloads. Then I had to move the audio file from downloads to my music folders, then plug in the iPad to the desktop, sync, then the SC audio file showed up in Music on the IPad. Then GarageBand on the iPad copy from iTunes worked.

Basically, you don't sync from your device to your computer, rather vice-versa. The easiest way is if you have a PDF reader like GoodReader that will let you transfer PDFs using iTunes. Otherwise, you can email them to yourself, then recover the attachments from Mail on the computer.

Recording tv shows from dvr to my pc

I have a brighthouse DVR and want to record some of the show's from it,I have a HP 9500y pc equiped with burnning/labaling abilty but no idea how to hook them together,or if it's even possible. any info would be great thanks

Couple of things to keep in mind here.
1) Your PC does not have a BlueRay drive. DVD native resolution is NTSC, ie: low def, not high def. While
software exists to convert you lose resolution and the show is going to look terrible.
2) Your brighthouse DVR I suspect is the one supplied by your cable TV provider, brighthouse?
If that is the case then almost certainly it is not going to have any way for the typical consumer to
make archival copies of TV shows because they want you to fill up your DVR so you have to delete
your old TV shows and get more from them (and continue to pay them, of course)
If you really want to record TV shows off brighthouse cable then this is what your going to have to do:
1) Scrap your DVR
2) Buy a PC that has Windows 7 on it.
3) Buy a TV tuner card (There's an inexpensive USB one for about $50 that works great)
4) If you subscribe to premium cable (ie: encrypted TV) then you will have to buy a
TV tuner card for the PC that has the slot in it for the cable-company supplied decryption
card. Once you get it working with unencrypted cable you call the cable company to
come out and plug in the decryption card.
5) Download a number of free conversion and video editing programs. Project X is one of
the best free ones out there.
6) Record your TV show then convert it from the .ts file to a AVI file using a codec of your
choice. Popular ones are MPEG4, DiVX, etc. This will not only shrink it down but it
will put it in a format that allows you to edit it to crop out the commercials.
7) Buy more hard drives. You will quickly find it much cheaper to create a library of
external USB hard drives (1-2 terabyte jobs) then to try to burn shows to optical media.
Have you priced blank bluray media lately? Not to mention the burners.
You need Win 7 because earlier versions of windows do not allow TV tuners to decode the
Cable TV standard off the cable line (at least, not for the cheap tuner cards, the expensive
ones contain software that will do it)
Keep in mind I do not have brighthouse, I looked at their website but I decided not to
waste a lot of time on it since it's not clear what exactly kind of content provider they are.
If they are not a cable provider but instead your getting stuff over the Internet from them
to your DVR, then a TV tuner card isn't going to do much good of course. If that is the
case then short of taking apart the DVR and taking the hard disk out and sticking it
in a PC to get the raw files off the DVR, your pretty much screwed.

Do you mean "how do you rip a CD to iTunes?" If so, just insert the CD into the optical drive of the MBP, launch iTunes, edit the ID3 tags to show what you want, then click the "import" button in the lower right corner of the window.

I am able to see any photo I took on the iPad using the iPad camera (in iTunes, photo stream, or when I open windows explorer and browse the iPad director), however I cannot see any photos transfered from my camera to the iPad. The camera connection kit must have put my photos in a directory I cannot get to and cannot sync.

He activated iMessage on his iPhone with the same Apple ID that you activated iMessage with on your Mac.
On your Mac, go to Messages preferences.
Under the Settings selection for your Apple ID, deselect your brother's phone number for you can be reached for messages at.
