So, I reinstalled Mountain Lion, but when I set up iMessage, my chats were gone. Signing in and sending a message was not enough to get the old messages. I have them on my iPhone, but not on my Mac. They don't seem to be in the usual spot on the hard drive either. It'd mean a lot to be able to get them on my laptop. They weren't at the Library/Messages/Archives in the laptop or the time machine backup.

You can only restore the whole message database, not individual messages or conversations. This procedure will replace the database with an earlier version, so you'll lose all later changes.
Hold down the option key and select
Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. A folder window will open. Restore the subfolder named "Messages" from a backup that predates the unwanted changes, then log out and log back in.
If you don't have a backup, the archive can't be restored.

When one restores an iPhone from its own backup, visual voicemail is also restored. However, when one restores a new iPhone from a backup from a previous phone, the voicemails fail to restore. This occurred between my 3G to 4s, and again from the 4s to a 5s. Restoring the 4s once from its own backup resulted in voicemail recovery.
My only explanation is that when a different SIM card is used, voicemails cannot restore as one would otherwise expect. Perhaps voicemails are inexplicably tied to their SIMs. Unfortunately, newer models of iPhones tend to use exceedingly different sizes, rendering one possible fix unpursuable. iBackupBot is the other possible solution: you can extract the voicemails from the backup and restore them onto the new iPhone individually.

If you have Leopard installed, you can't download anything to get to Snow Leopard.
In order to do that you must have a Snow Leopard DVD.

The direct "copy and paste" from the post did not work: I had to retype it :
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchSe rvices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user
but then it worked like a charm!

And btw: I turned on the "-v" option for the lsregister to see, what was going on, and saw plenty of error messages (error -10811); so I repeated the command with "sudo". After that I still saw five iPhotos. Repeating as regular user finally got rid of the redundant iPhoto entries. It looks like registering as super user may be causing this trouble.

2. today i lost my system data file, and also lost my all archived files.
3. i started up the database but, the following error was generated.

Where did the music come from e.g. bought from iTunes, copied from CDs ? You can only upload music to iTunes Match from a computer's iTunes, so if those songs were copied from CDs then were they in your computer's iTunes library when you subscribed to it ?
When you turn on Match on an iOS device you are effectively saying that you want to replace the music that is on that device and use what you have stored in Match instead.

Recover a Catalog after Reinstalling PE11

I just added a SSD drive to my computer and reloaded all software including Windows 7 and Photoshop Elements 11 onto this new system drive. I did not make a separate backup of the Organizer Catalog beforehand, however the catalog is stil on the hard drive, now to be used as a data drive. How can I recover this catalog?

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately I'm missing the recovery key and don't synch with other devices so I guess that means I'm out of luck...
Maybe this is something that can be added to the roadmap for future improvements. I don't see a reason why you can't get your information back after a reset if you've only got one device.

How to recover title styles after reinstalling?

I recently reimaged my computer in hopes of reducing crashes with FCPX. That seemed to work but I've lost all of the title styles on work from the past year. I believe I have the same fonts installed. The titles may have been associated with styles I created and saved so maybe the styles are gone for good. I assumed they would have some reference to fonts and size still available. I exported the xml to have a read and can see no references to styles or fonts anywhere. Any one have any insights? Thanks.
