How do I recover lost addresses?

I have a corrupted address/contact list which I have accumulated over about 7 years and which had contained about 1500 contacts with lots of important detail.
It happened about 3 weeks ago when I attempted a routine sync that I had successfully done with this unit many, many times. This time, however, after the sync, over a thousand "unfiled" entries appeared on my handheld, with all of them blank. My contact list was fine for the entries "A" through "H", but everyone beyond the letter "H" had disappeared. I removed the "unfiled" entries and took the handheld to my second home's computer and tried to sync it with no success. The 2nd desktop also lost all of the "I" thru "Z" addresses. The calendar has had no problems.
The only software addition was the installation of Roboform, a software that keeps track of all my passwords and ID's. I did not deliberately install the Roboform data on the Palm system, but apparently it communicated with the Palm and it may be the cause of the data loss.
I had backed up my Palm data on an external hard drive and also to a flash drive unit, so I think that I have a backup that has not been synchronized with the handheld and thus the original data may be in tact. I have tried to import the address data from these sources but only a few entries transfer.
Can someone guide me through the correct steps to import my backup data? Also can I avoid going back to an old calendar backup file since I have many recent entries in this area? I would like to only import the old addresses since I have lost over 700 entries. Also, how do I eliminate that possible Roboform data from my Palm system?
Thanks for helping me. I would really appreciate any guidance that you could give to me.

Hello Challenger, not sure if you have found the fix for this -  either way, here it is.
1) Close Palm Desktop - " THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT "
2) Go to C:\ProgramFiles\PalmOne\ and look for the profile you are using, the same one missing the addresses.
3) Now in the user profile (ie. John) you will find a folder named "address" in there you are looking for two files ( address.dat & address.bak)
4) Make a copy of those two files to a safe place in your Hard Drive.
5) Now we are back to the "address" folder -  delete the address.dat file, and the address.bak file rename it to address.dat
6) Launch Palm Desktop -  all your contacts should now be restored.
If anyone has a question on how to do this - email me at [email protected]
Good Luck!

  • Once on iCloud how do you recover lost address book data?

After moving to iCloud my wife suddenely lost all her contact info earlier today.  When opening Address Book on her iMac & iPad all contact info was gone.  We signed on to iCloud.com and it was gone there too.  For some reason it was still on her iPhone.  I tried to force a merge from her phone by shutting off iCloud Contacts; selecting to keep data on the device; then turned it back on hoping to get the 'merge data' option.  I didn't get that message and sure enough in a few seconds the address book on her phone went empty.
So, this raised the question about where do I recover the data from?  I looked in finder on her iMac under user/Library/Addplication Support/Address Book - there were some files and directories there, but nothing that looked like it was loaded with contact info. I'm assumming once she moved to iCloud the detail is no longer stored locally in OS X?
I went into System Prefs and shut off iCloud Contacts on the iMac, opened Time Machine, went back a week ago (prior to iCloud) and found contact info in the user/Library/Addplication Support/Address Book directory and restored the entire directory.  Opened Address Book and it was populated with data.  turned on iCloud Contacts and selected the 'Merge' data option which then populated her other devices.
So, the question is - what if it had been longer than a week - where is this data (and probably calendar data too!) being backed up and where (and how) would you restore it from if it did suddenly turn up missing?

So this gets back to my original question... not sure if bgbrobru is running Time Machine backups, but even if he is, I don't think the Address Book data is recoverable (unless you go back to a pre-iCloud backup) because it is no longer stored locally.
If I understand correctly the only thing we can do going forward is to run a periodic 'manual' export of iCal and Address Book data to insure we have a backup?  In the event I do something stupid and mistakingly delete something or - like what happened to my wife today - the entire address book (or calendar entries) just disapear, we are screwed?  I guess this would also apply to email stored in folders on iCloud?
Seems there should be some way to capture the iCloud data in a Time Machine (or some other mechanism) backup?
    Sorry Rick but that's incorrect,
Here's a shot of the folder it lives in and the path to it, Time Machine backs it up.

I lost all personal data while installing maverick in external drive. How can I recover lost data?

If all your files are missing
You may have logged in as a different user, such as Guest. Open the Users & Groups pane in System Preferences. Your name should be at the top of the user list, under Current User. See also this support article.
If files are missing from one folder
Change the Finder view mode; for example, from icon view to list view, or vice versa.

You could try rebuilding the database ...
Launch iPhoto while holding down the Command + Option keys.
The Photo Library First Aid window should open.
    Select:  Repair Database
    Click:  Repair
If that doesn't help, open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file to the Trash.
    Quit and relaunch iPhoto.
If that doesn't help, copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
    Quit and relaunch iPhoto.
If you do not currently have a wawy to backup your iPhoto library, you need to do that so that you can recover your photos in the event of a hard drive problem.

  • How do i recover lost files and documents?

how do i recover lost files and documents?

Way 1. Recover Deleted Text Messages on iPhone with Backups
    1) Recover lost files on iPhone from iTunes Backup
As you know, every time you sync your iPhone with iTunes, it will automatically make a backup of your iPhone contents including photos, SMS, reminders, contacts and more. Step 1. Launch iTunes and connect your iPhone to your computer. Step 2. Choose "Recover form Backup" option. Step 3. Select a backup you need. If you don't know which one to choose, you'd better choose the latest backup. Step 4. Click "Start Scan". Step 5. Preview contents in details and select lost files you need. Step 6. Click "Recover".
    2) Recover Deleted documents on iPhone from iCloud Backup
You should make sure that you have backup in iCloud before recovery. Go to Settings < iCloud. Log in to your Apple ID and toggle the Contacts switch from ON to OFF. Then turn it ON and choose Merge on the pop-up message. Then all contacts in the iCloud backup are back to your iPhone 4S.
Way 2. Recover Deleted files on iPhone without Backups
While if you don’t have any backup files in iTunes or iCloud, the unique way is to recover with iPhone Data Recovery. Step 1. Connect your iPhone to the computer and Run the software. Step 2. Click "Start Scan" > Scan data on your iPhone quickly. Step 3. Preview and select lost files you need. Step 4. Click "Recover" to recover them.
