I downloaded photos from a memory stick onto my desktop and then tried to copy and paste them to iPhoto using COMMAND Z but now have lost them.
Can I recover them now?

Well command-z means 'undo the last thing you did'... so I'd copy them from the memory stick again.
File -> Add to Library will get them into iPhoto.

You could try rebuilding the database ...
Launch iPhoto while holding down the Command + Option keys.
The Photo Library First Aid window should open.
Select: Repair Database
Click: Repair
If that doesn't help, open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch iPhoto.
If that doesn't help, copy paste the following:
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch iPhoto.
If you do not currently have a wawy to backup your iPhoto library, you need to do that so that you can recover your photos in the event of a hard drive problem.

I recently updated Aperture 3, and today while I was working on some photos, my computer shut off. When I restarted it, it said that there were inconsistancies in my library and asked if I wanted to fix them. I said yes. When I finally got back into Aperture, I had lost several of my photos in my library. Does anyone know how I can recover these???

I got back from a 2 week holiday yesterday. Throughout the trip i was taking photos on a dslr and transferring them to my ipad 2 using apples camera connection kit. In the end there were about 2000+ photos on my ipad. I plugged in my ipad to iTunes to transfer the photos and it appears that iTunes has replaced the photos on my ipad with that in my library (no photos) i quickly unplugged my ipad, checked the photos app and there are none in there, i cant find them on my mac either. I was devastated because i thought i had lost all my holiday photos, but whenever i click on the ipad tab in iTunes it says that 9.5gb of the ipads capacity is being used by photos. So they must still be there, but how do i get them onto my computer/recover them? Please help me, i'm struggling and getting pretty upset at the moment. The applecare line has closed for the day as well.

Photos imported from a digital camera, captured by the iPad 2, or saved from a recieved email or from a website with the iPad are not touched during the iTunes sync process and cannot be imported from the iPad by iTunes. These photos are included with the iPad's backup which is updated by iTunes as the first step during the iTunes sync process and are stored completely separate from photos that are transferred from your computer. iTunes handles the transfer of select photos from your computer - selected under the Photos tab for your iPad sync preferences with iTunes, but iTunes does not handle the import of photos from the iPad's Camera Roll or from the All Imported for photos imported from a digital camera with the camera connection kit.
The files you found in the depths of your Mac are in your iPad's backup which is updated by iTunes as the first step during the iTunes sync process. The backup is a SQLite database. There are some 3rd party utilities that provide for extracting select data such as photos from the backup.

Ok so I have an iPod touch 4g that I had not used for about 2 months as I have been travelling. When I tried to use it I realised that I had forgotten my passcode and as I sold the laptop that I used to use to sync my iPod to just before I went travelling I have no back ups of data and I couldn't unlock my iPod. So in the end I decided I had to restore the iPod using my sisters laptop so that I could use it again as I didnt know the passcode. However my problem is that I had lots of photos stored on my iPod that were special to me and my family, is there any way that I can retrieve these photos?

Long story short I "backed up" all my stuff to a western digital 250gb hard drive and re installed lion. They are not on my external Hard Drive nor laptop anymore. Hello, thank you sooooo much for such quick replies. Pretty much what originally happened was I was trying to make an imovie, i movie wouldnt load. I call mac support and they deleted some sort of "plist" in imovie, that didnt do anything, so at that point, they said to re install lion. I backed everything on to my external hard drive by doing just a drag and drop, I erased everything from the laptop hard drive (in disk utility) and re installed it. Did not work, brought it back to apple, which we than replaced the RAM. That fixed everything, and I now re installed everything. When I went to bring my photos back on from my external drive. They were not there. Its weird because I created another user, and looked on the hard drive under the other new user account, and there is a different folder there. Doesnt have any of my pics, but says hawaii, with data001, data002 and so on. I am wondering if it is because I have different RAM when I saved them on the other HD ( dont think so though). Do these recovery programs work?

You will just sync to the new computer. Keep in mind:
Additional Information
Syncing photos with your device will create an iPod photo cache.
Syncing photos can only happen from one computer or user account at a time. Syncing photos with a different computer or user replaces the photos on the device.
You can't reimport pictures synced from your computer to your device back to your computer. You can only import pictures in the Camera Roll or Saved Photos from your device to your computer. If you need to retrieve synced photos from your device:
Email them from the device to yourself.
Copy them from the emails to your computer.
On iPhone and iPod touch using iOS 5 and iOS 6, all synced photos will appear in a unified category called photo library. Photos are not duplicated; this is a way to view all synced albums in one place. You can also tap a specific album beneath photo library to view individual albums.

If she backed up after the photos were sent, then try restoring from backup. Make sure that you turn off automatic syncing first before you connect. Go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices and check the box that says Prevent iPod touch.
