How do i recover my data after restoring to factory settings?

when i went to sync my phone, it stated "itunes has detected an iphone in recovery mode you must restore iphone before it can be used with itunes" when i press the restore button it then states "are you sure you want to restore to factory settings" i know if i do this i will lose my pictures and videos, is there anyway that i can save them? please help

Not now.
Although photos/videos in the iPhone's Camera Roll are included with the iPhone's backup, photos/videos in the Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera.
If your iPhone's backup is being done by iTunes when syncing or wirelessly with an Apple iCloud account, you will be able to restore from the most recent backup.

Can I recover my pictures to my Iphone after restoring to factory settings on of via iTunes ?

Possibly... contact the photo center and ask them if they offer such a feature or app.
This is not an iPhone, iOS, or Apple issue.

I attempted to update to iOS 8 and now my phone is stuck in recovery mode, and iTunes will only let me restore to factory settings.  My question: Can I restore from iTunes backup after restoring to factory settings?

    Hi, kformagg
I would say yes. I once had the same problem (iPhone 5, IOS 7) and first restored to factory settings and after that from iCloud backup.
    It worked very well.

How to erase hardrive during reboot to restore to factory settings?

I was told to hold down Control R while rebooting, which I did, and then once I'm in disk utility thats where I will erase the hard drive.  The problem is I dont know what I'm really looking at once I get there.  I actually see what looks like 2 hard drives.   one labeld:  500.11 GB ST3500418A and one right below it named Macintosh HD, which one do I select to erase or should I do both?

    Hi,
I do not really understand... Did you made a backup before restore to factory settings? And did you copy all backup files to an external device? If not, the data is gone!
Why? Restoryng to factory does not mean a reinstallation. It means to fill the whole harddisk with an image of the first (factory) installation. All other data will be destroyd! Other partitions are deleted and normally you find only one big partition - the whole hdd.
If you have a complete backup on external drive and it is corrupted during restore, try to open the files manually. Maybe you can restore some single files.
    Good luck
    kind regards
    Stefan

  • OS won't install after restoring to factory settings

I restored my HP DV5 laptop to original factory settings. Once the restoration was complete, the computer restarted, but every time it boots back up and begins to install windows, a window pops up stating that an error was encountered during installation. I click on "ok" and the whole problem repeats. This is actually the second time I have restored the factory settings because after the first time, the screen would randomly go black and whatever program I was in would stop functioning ( the computer would still be on though). I have run a primary hard disk drive and memory test. Both have passed with no errors.
    This question was solved.

  • My iPod Classic 80Gb won't sync with iTunes after "Restoring" to factory settings

My iPod Classic is probably about 8 years old, or maybe a little more and has never before given serious problems. Until I recently "restored" the device, the hard drive had about 40Gb of music and podcasts stored on it but no photos or videos.
The device recently just "died" completely and without warning - just a blank screen with no response from any of the controls.  I rebooted it using the "Menu" and "Select" buttons and it came back to life. However as it had recently been displaying some other small issues like having to be manually ejected every time after syncing, instead of automatically saying "it is now safe to disconnect" as it always used to, I thought I'd restore it to its original factory settings and then reload my catalogue.  Big mistake!
Now when I connect the device, it won't automatically sync as it always used to; and when I try to manually sync it either from the "Sync" button at the bottom right hand corner of the iTunes screen or by right-clicking on the device's icon in iTunes and selecting the "sync" option, the iTunes banner simply states "iPod sync is complete" and "Eject before disconnecting" with no data being loaded.
My computer is a Windows 7 PC running the latest version of iTunes (11.3.1.2) and the iPod device software is up to date (version 1.1.2). <my windows updates are carried out automatically.   I have worked my way through the iTunes diagnostics pages, but to no avail.
Any assistance in resolving this issue would be much appreciated.

You would have to update you Mac os.
    It is clear:
    System requirements
Mac computer with USB 2.0 port, Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later, and iTunes 10 or later4
PC with USB 2.0 port; Windows 7, Vista, or XP Home or Professional (SP3) or later; and iTunes 10 or later4
Internet access required; broadband recommended; fees may apply"

  • I cannot get iphone4s to restore to back up after restoring to factory settings.

This afternoon I reset my iphone 4s to factory settings. I made a back up via itunes (only way I ever do it) prior to the reset.
All my attempts to restore from that back up or any back up for that matter have not worked.
It will sync ok, transfering apps and music etc it has my emails all set up, but there are no records of contacts, messages, recent call log and so on- the most useful parts of a cell phone are not there and also none of the photographs or video that I had backed up are on there either. In my experience of switching my husbands handset from a 3 to a 4s ALL the info transferred/restored from the place he bakced it up from on the old handset.
I just keep going around in circles with it. It will appear to be restoring properly then when it reboots it takes me back to the factory settings set up "hello" screen.
What is happening? Itunes is updated and I have IOS 7.1.
    Thanks

I think what has happened is when I made the back up before the reset it didn't work.... It seems to have not actually backed anything up so effectively it's blank.... is there anyway any of the data is saved somewhere... I did do a back up, it shows that I have. a back up for that date and time but it is not loading anything onto my phone...?

  • Ipod will not update after restoring to factory settings

I was having some trouble with my ipod, so I restored it to factory settings and updated to ITunes 7. Ever since then, nothing has updated to my Ipod. The IPod remains on "Do not disconnect" mode, while ITunes says, IPod update complete.
If I go ahead and disconnect anyways, my Ipod is empty.
    Any advice?

no, let's leave things as they are there at the moment. (the "do not disconnect" would have been normal if you had either "manually manage music" or "enable disk use" checked in there.)
how about your Music tab? under "Sync Music", do you have "selected playlists" selected? if so, do the playlists that you have selected contain any songs?

  • Does anyone know why I can't activate my phone after restoring to factory settings?

I bought my iphone from Ebay about a year ago.  I didn't realise it was jailbroken. When I updated the software before Christmas, I kept losing signal.  I tried resetting it and have now restored it to factory settings but now I cannot activate it.  Can anyone help me? Please?

The jailbreak made unknown changes to your iPhone and when
you restored the iPhone, it was relocked to the original carrier.
Only that carrier can unlock the iPhone, and the jailbreak may
    prevent that from completing.
Google might provide some assistance, but Terms of Service
prohibit jailbroken iPhones in these fora.

AFter updating my iPhone4 my phone crashed and had to be set to factory settings now I can only use it for emergency calls. It is asking me for network setting? I have tried o2 but this has failed. Please help.

Sounds like your phone has been re-locked to the carrier it was originally locked to, which is not O2. Where & from whom did you get this phone?

  • Do not see add on software after restore to factory settings

I recently restored my T43 notebook to factory settings by using the Access IBM recovery.
While WinXP and drivers were restored as expected, the add-onsoftware that I had on the machine.
This included Microsoft Office 2003 which I had ordered from IBM when I originally bought the machine in 2005.
Is there a way to have this software restored as part of the recovery?

Office has to be installed separately. They should have sent you the discs.

  • HT1414 Is there any way to recover the backup of your iPhone after restoring to factory settings?

I restored my iPhone4 to factoring settings without realizing it. I need some of the things that were on my last backup before i restored it. I was wondering if there was any way to reverse this.

With an iTunes back up you can find if you have one by following the steps below if you have a PC/Mac.
    Windows:
    Edit>Preferences>Devices
    Mac:
    iTunes>Preferences>Devices
With iCloud follow the steps below.
    1. Go to Settings>iCloud
    2. Sign In
    3. Tap Storage & Back up
    4. Manage Storage
This will show back ups made on iCloud.
If you have a back in iTunes or iCloud restore from that back up and see whatdatat comes back on the phone.
    Hope this helps
