How do i recover my old address book?

Hi Andrea, see if on your Mac you have this file & what size it is...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/AddressBook.data.previous
Or if in AB's File Menu you have Revert to AB Backup.

I had to do a re-install of Thunderbird after a crash. How do I get my old address book into my new one? There are only a few of the contacts I had, so there must be a location where the rest are, but not sure where to look. And once I find them (with your help), how do I get them into the address book?

If you copy abook.mab or history.mab into a profile folder, they will show up as Personal Address Book and Collected Addresses. But if the mab files have names other than abook or history, they can only be imported to TB with the use of [https://nic-nac-project.org/~kaosmos/morecols-en.html MoreFunctionsForAddressBook].

  • How do I get my old address book when creating a new profile?

For some reason my profile quit working on a Win7 computer. I can get my e-mails back but copying the abook.mab over doesn't recover my address book. How can I get my contacts back without having to enter them manually?

Were you using just Personal Address Book, or had you other user-defined address books?
I think you might need ''history.mab'' too (this represents Collected Addresses) and any user-defined address books would have names such as ''abook-1.mab'' and so forth.
But you'll need to import these user-defined address books, and the tool I know for doing this is

  • Can't recover all contacts from old address book

My ibook was dying so I dragged everything over to an external hard drive. The guy at the Apple store assured me this would back up everything other than the applications. Now I have a new hard drive in my computer and can't for the life of me figure out how to get all of my addresses imported into my address book. I've tried replacing the "Address Book" folder in Application Support (there was no such folder on my new hard drive) and tried importing from Address Book but it has all of the "plist"s greyed out. Now I read about doing a separate process for backing up your address book but I didnt do this. Can I still recover my old addresses since I have a backup of the old drive in its entirety? Please help!
    Thank you in advance.

With Mavericks you won't get the Info tab, you use iCloud to sync contacts - from http://support.apple.com/kb/PH12117 :
If you use OS X Mavericks v.10.9 or later, your contacts, calendars, and other info are updated on your computers and iOS devices via iCloud. For more information, see iCloud Help at icloud.com.

How can I recover an old/disused iCloud account. I was having some issues with my apple id so I restored my iPad, I am now stuck on the activation screen as I no longer use the iCloud account i used to set up the iPad and can't remember the address or pas

I have the same problem - it is maddening. I rely on this iPad for work so this is not just an annoyance! The above solutions of changing the appleid on the device or on the website do not work.
The old email address no longer exists - I haven't used it in a year probably and I no longer have the account.  I logged into the appleid website and there is no trace of the old email address so there is nothing that can be deleted or changed there.  On the iPad there is no trace of the old email address so nothing can be deleted there either. I have updated the iPad software and the same problem comes right back.  Every 2 seconds I am asked to log in using the old non-existent email.  The device is currently useless.
The only recent change to anything was the addition of an Apple TV device, which was set up using the correct login and password.
Does anyone have any ideas? The iPad has been backed up to the iCloud so presumably it now won't recognize the current iCloud account? So restoring may notbe an option?

...and if amy lou's suggestion does not work either, you will probably have to contact AppleID support.

  • How to import from old address book?

Hi all, I've searched the net about my problem but with no result.
I have an old mac (a G3 iMac running 10.3.9) with a lot of contacts on its Address Book, and I do mean a lot. The computer is completely dead, but I have a copy of the contents of its internal hard disk on a new mac running Lion. My problem is importing the old contacts into the new Address Book. The file formats have changed and the old files can't be imported into the new application, they are not even recognized as addressbook files. Obviously I can't export from the old system since it's not running. The old AddressBook.data file is a terrible junk of names, addresses, telephone numbers and everything else organized in an incomprehensible way (I can't just manually copy the addresses from the file). Does anyone know how to import those contacts into the new format? Otherwise, I'll have to find somebody who owns an old system with an old Address Book application so that I can export the files from there. Thanks a lot

As it's been 3 months, you probably have resolved this by now, but I had a similar problem today and resolved it with help from a tech at the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store.
If you ever backed up your "Library" folder from your old Mac, it contains the "Application Support" folder which in turn contains the "Address Book" folder.
On your new iMac, running Lion:
    1)open Finder
    2)select "Go" on the menu
3)with the "Go" window open, press and hold down the "Option" key on your keybord. Doing this will expose the hidden "Library" folder.
    4) in the Library folder you will find "Application Support"
    5) in the "Application Support" folder, you will find the "Address Book" folder
    6) assuming you have the old "Address Book" folder from within the backed-up "Library Folder" from you old iMac, delete the "Address Book" folder on your new iMac and copy your old backed-up Address Book folder to the "Application Support" folder in its place.
    7) Open the Address Book application and you should see your contact records.
I just finished doing this and it worked for me.
    Cheers

  • How to I get my data from my old address book?

I upgraded from Tiger to Snow Leopard. Before installing Snow Leopard, I backed all data with Super Duper because I knew the hard drive would be wiped before the install. I can find the old address book backup in a folder under Super Duper but I cannot get the Address Book to open it. Is there another way or worse case is there a way to dump the data out of AddressBook.data so that I could re-enter it in the new version?
    Thanks
    Paul

Start up using 10.4 on the external drive. Then open the Address Book and under File>Export select Address Book Archive. Then when you've restarted in 10.6 find the Address Book Archive on the external drive and move it to your new hard drive. Then open Address Book and under File>Import select the Address Book Archive.

  • Any way to recover Entourage 2004 address book, emails?

I just updated my OS to Mountain Lion only to find out it won't support my old Microsoft Office 2004 applications. Terrific. Is there a way to recover my Entourage address book and inbox from the local hard drive? My last Time Machine backup was a qhile ago (I know, I know).
    Thanks.

The easiest way would be to get MS Office 2011.
Outlook can import those Entourage files.
    Come at a price though.

Relax. Your address book database is corrupted.
If you are syncing your Contacts with MobileMe or something else, disable it for now.
Backup your address book by going to File>Export>Address Book Archive.
    Quit Address Book.
Open your Library by holding down the Option (alt) key while selecting the Go menu in Finder. Select Library. Navigate into your Application Support/AddressBook folder and delete the addressbook-v22.abcddb file.
Open Address Book. It will recreate the database from the raw data.
See how that works. If it is ok, then reenable syncing and see how that works.

  • Old Address Book syncing with iPad via iTunes!

Forgive me if I'm going over old ground but there seem to be a number of threads to do with Address Book syncing, but I haven't managed to find a definitive answer, so here goes ...
I have an iPad [3] under iOS.5.1and an OSX.6.8 quad-core i7 iMac and I sync them via iTunes.
Everything, absolutley everything, syncs just fine, Calendars, Photos, etc. etc. - except, that is, for Address Book and Contacts.
The iMac Address Book is fully up to date, yet the version on the iPad is not only an old version, but a version which hasn't been current since before the iPad was bought and first sync'd!
    Bizarre!
In an attempt to correct this, I unchecked the iTunes "Info > Sync Contacts button and resync'd.
The ipad Contacts book was empty - which is what I expected.
i then checked the button again and resync'd - and the old Address Book data was resync'd!
What is clear is that the iPad's version reflects that which is in the iTunes "Selected Groups" window and not what is actually in the Address Book, so I presume that the error lies with iTunes and/or my iMac and not the ipad iteself.  The iPad is, after all, only reflecting what iTunes tells it.
So, my friends, why does iTunes not show the current Address Book indiviudal cards and Groups?
From where should it be getting it's information and how can I ensure that it does get the latest version?
If there is a rogue old copy somewhere, what could it be called and how can I find it and delete it and then, perhaps amend the default path to the correct version?
All software and apps on both devices are fully up to date at the time of posting this heartfelt crie de coure!
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Well, eventually I had to go to the Level 2 (or whetver they are called) AppleCare geeks to get this resolved, as the "normal" guys couldn't resolve it.
After much "try this ...", "try that ..." and "try the other ..." they narrowed the problem down to a corrupt Address Book Group header in my iMac's Address Book.
It appears impossible to find out just which of my 55 Group headers was corrupt and the only way around it was to export all Contacts individually as vCards, dlete every Group and individual card entry in the Addreess Book and reimport all the vCards - and then somewhat tediously recreate all my Groups again from scratch.
It took  around two and a half hours on the phone to AppleCare and forever to recreate the Groups, but at least it solved the problem!
Whether this helps anyone else i cannot tell, but if you have a bizarre syncing pronblem it might be worth looking at this as a solution.
But take my tip:  before embarking on this, make an entry in the Notes section of each card so that you know to which Group or Groups a card belongs because it was a feat of memory way beyond me to remeber all of them and I still have the odd orphan in there awaiting a home!

  • Import contacts from old address book on MacBkPro Snow Leopard into new MacBk Pro Lion

How do I import my contacts from old address book on MacBkPro Snow Leopard into new MacBk Pro Lion (on MacBkPro Retina). I can see the "AddressBook" file on the old HD (extracted from old machine--which died) and have a copy of that file on to desktop of new machine. [Copied from old HD: Users/home/Library/Application Support/Address Book]. There is an Address Book in the same location on the "MacIntosh HD" of the new machine, but some of the files in that (new) folder have different names. Risky to simply over-ride this. What should I do?

My mistake - my groups are there! They transferred perfectly. Still getting used to my wonderful new machine. Sorry to bother you!

  • How can i get my previous address book into my current email?

I use to use road runner as my email but always so slow so I started using Hotmail, had lots of problems with Hotmail so I went back to using rr but I can't get my old address book, I access rr via Mozilla and I didn't before. I can open my previous rr and all the addresses are there but can't figure out how to get them into my new account.

Export them from where ever they are, either as CSV or LDIF format.
Import them to Thunderbirds address book. Tools (Alt_T) > import > address books

  • Old Address Book on OS X Tiger

I now have Mac mini intel Snow Leopard but need to get my old address book off of my old power pc HDD that was OS Tiger.
I cannot import them into my new address book.
    Any ideas please.

I'm not clear whether what you just said is that you copied the address book data from the Address Book data folder in your Tiger $HOME/Library/Application Support/AddressBook whilst solely in the Finder environment, or that you had exported the data from the Tiger Address Book application or if you mean you that you did is what I suggested you try. I don't think what you said you did is what I suggested. So how about giving that a try?
Can you boot into Tiger now?
IF so, can you launch Address Book?
If so, can you select a group and see a list of all the address cards that belong to it?
If so, can you select them all?
If so, can you drag it to the Desktop (or to a flash drive, or to the Snow hard drive)?
If so, what is it named? Something like "Alice Allison and 43 others.vcf?"
If so, can you rename it to the {name of the group}.vcf?
If so, can you now open that vcf file with Text Edit and read it?
Does it look similar in format to:
    BEGIN:VCARD
    VERSION:3.0
    N:;;;;
    FN:Alice Allison
    EMAIL;type=INTERNET;type=HOME;type=pref:[email protected]
    EMAIL;type=INTERNET;type=WORK:[email protected]
    TEL;type=WORK;type=pref:201-555-1212
    TEL;type=WORK;type=FAX:402-555-1212
    END:VCARD
    BEGIN:VCARD
    VERSION:3.0
    N:;;;;
    FN:Bob Baer
    END:VCARD
    BEGIN:VCARD
    (Don't save when you close/quit)
If so, can you do the same with all the other address book entries in each of the other groups?
Now once you boot back into Snow Leopard can you open one (or more) of these {name of group}.vcf cards in Text Edit, can you still read it(them)? And they look like the same sort of format?(Again, don't save when you close/quit)
Once you open address book, have you manually created the new groups there in the application ("+" at bottom of left column, type group name)?
If so, can you drag the file icon of one of your newly created group "mega-vcf" cards into the Address Book window and drop it on top of the appropriate group icon (that you just created manually) in the left column of the Address Book window?
If so, can you now see the list of address book entries in the middle column?
If so, can you select individual address book entries in the middle column and read the card in the right column and does the data look correct?
If so, can you do the above with all the remaining group cards?
