How do I recover my USB files?

I attempted to eject my USB drive and the computer said it was not done correctly. I attempted ejecting it again and it worked so I took it out. Upon removeal it dumped some random files from the USB onto my desktop. When I tried to plug it back in again the USB was unreadable and has a total capacity of 0 bytes according to the computer. I tried on other computers and had the same result. Is there anyway to get my files off of the USB?

You can try recovery software such as  Data Rescue (Prosoft Engineering), or File Salvage (SubRosaSoft). But if this is a USB flash drive, most likely it's failed and you won't be able to recover anything from it.
Good luck.

If the external drive can be seen at all in Disk Utility, follow the instructions for repair here.

I recently updated the iOS on my ipad 3 and lost all my files in the process. How do I recover my lost files which were not previously backed up?

If you don't have them backed up somewhere, then there's little possibility of recovering them. There are some utilities that can in some cases recover an inadvertently-deleted photo, but I've found none that can recover photos or other data from an iPad that was erased as part of an iOS upgrade. You can do a web search for something like "iPhone photo recovery" and you'll find some utilities you can try.

It you have a time machine backup, just open that directory in finder and start Time Machine.  Back up a day and restore it.
If you are on Lion and using an app that supports versions.  Go to File > revert document.

  • How to recover corrupt USB files?

my USB flash drive stopped working today, when i try to verify it on disk utility, i get this message:
    ** /dev/disk1s1
can't open (no such file or directory)
error: filesystem verify or repair failed
i tried disk drill, wondershare, and stellar phoenix and none of them recognize my flash drive.
any advice on how to recover my files?

Here are the simple steps to repair data file in QuickBooks.
Step 1: Close the software as soon as you receive damaged data file error message.
Step 2: Now open the software. It will make a new Qbwin.log file.
Step 3: Click on the ‘Window’ option and then from the drop-down menu, click on ‘Close All’. Now go the ‘File’ option then from the drop-down menu, click on ‘Utilities’. A menu will appear.
Step 4: From that list select ‘Verify Data’. If QuickBooks reports that there is no issue it means your data is alright. On the other side, if you get a message saying “Your data has lost integrity” or “A data problem prevents QuickBooks from continuing” it
means your data is corrupted or has a structural issue. And in this case, you will have to run the Rebuild Data tool.
Step 5: Click on ‘Windows’ and select ‘Close All’ in order to close all the QuickBooks windows.
Step 6: To launch the Rebuild Data tool, click on ‘File’ and select ‘Utilities’. Now from the drop-down menu, go to ‘Rebuild Data’ option.
Step 7: Click on ‘OK’ and a pop-up will come warning you to take a backup of your file. It is recommended to create an entirely new backup file and don’t overwrite the existing file. To prevent overwriting, give a new name to the file when prompted.
Click 8: Wait for some time and let the Rebuild Data Utility finish the process. When completed, click on ‘OK’.
Step 9: Close the company file. Reopen the file to refresh the list.
Step 10: Select the company file and now to launch the file, click on ‘Open’.
Step 11: In order to verify if the data file is clean and is repaired, again run the Verify Data utility.

  • My iMac was stolen in a robbery - no files via iCloud (long story).  I have a new iMac which is set up and being used - how do I recover old iMac files from what looks like back-up files showing on my Time Capsule (also being used for this new iMac)?

My iMac was stolen - but I think there's a backup on my Time Capsule (which wasn't stolen). I have a new iMac which I've been using normally; I didn't use the 'Restore from...' option at the start because I thought the Time Capsule had nothing on it.  So how do I now recover files from the Time Machine?  I can see various back-ups on the Time Capsule, from various machines - laptops, etc. - but it's not letting me open any of them to see what they contain. Does anyone know how I access this information?

    Use migration assistant.
    See http://pondini.org/OSX/MigrateLion.html
Although this is only up to Mountain Lion it is still relevant to Mavericks.. only expect Mavericks to kick and buck a lot more.

It depends on how you have been doing your backups. What backup solution have you been using?

  • How can I recover a .psd file that photoshop says is 'empty'?

I've been working on this file for a long time, then I tried to work on it tonight, and Photoshop gave me a message that said "Could not complete your request because the file is empty."  I have no idea why this happened and I really don't want to have to redo all of my work.  Any suggestions?
My operating system is Mac OSX.
    Thanks!

If not, and you're out of luck, take heart...  Photoshop CS6 has an auto-save feature that might be able to help you.
I have also suggested multiple times that Adobe start to make use of the Trash Can / Recycle Bin, so that any older save could be recovered in a pinch.  I've gotten fairly little attention with that suggestion, though it would be well appreciated by people like yourself, I'm sure!

  • How can i recover corrupt .mov files that quicktime does not recognise?

we recently 'lost' a whole day's footage by accidentally deleting it. in trying to recover these files we have used many different programs and have had odd results.... sometimes the data is recovered and shows only thumbnails but not the proper film and othertimes says tht quick time cannot open the link because it doesn't reconise the codec. these clips were filmed with a Canon SLR camera and we have searched the reformqatted sandisks as well with the same result.... quicktime does not recognize the file.
any thoughts? it would be a tragedy to lose this footage... well not really, but you know - a whole day's work!
thanks in advance for your help.

I managed to rescue damaged AVCHD footage using photorescue. Some files were not complete, but I got them to play by trying different players like VLC, or mpeg streamclip, then exporting the clip as a new same format file. One or two were too badly damaged to rescue, but I got most back eventually.

  • How can i recover deleted trash files?, how can i recover deleted trash files?

    Hi,
So I mistakenly deleted a bunch of files, mostly mp3 from itunes, when I emptied my trash. I tried using Stellar Phoenix to recover the files, which it kind od did. When I say "kind of" I mean it restored files but only partially. So I have that music back but only like one minute of each song. I'm wondering if there is any other way to recover emptied trash? Any input would be much appreciated! Thank You!!!

no, not without any type of data recovery software (which you have) or sending the hard drive to a data recovery service.  And those services do not guarantee that any or all of your information will be recovered.  This is why it is so important to spend $100 or less and purchase an external hard drive for backup.  This should help you recover any lost iTunes purchases: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
