How do I recover photos that corrupted when I upgraded to iphoto 11?

I just installed iphoto 11 on my macbook and stupidly didn't back up my library, When the library was rebuilt, 40 photos have corrupted - weirdly, all the corrupted photos are black and white, landscape - and any photos in the sequence that are portrait are just fine. i can still see the photos as thumbnails, but can't open them.
I have tried 3 things:
Clearing iphoto preferences and cache (didn't work)
Repairing the library (it gets stuck every time at 74% and then I have to force quit)
Downloading iphoto library manager and rebuilding the library (it entirely deletes the corrupted images)
E-mailing myself the images (not sure where I was going with this one, but it wouldn't let me e-mail them anyway!)
Missing photos are the first photos of our newborn baby so pretty anxious to get them back... anyone got any bright ideas?

Without a backup you are probablhy out of luck - remember that withou a backup you are guarenteed to lose your files including your photos sooner or later - things happen and a backup is the only protection you have against hardware, software and human failure
It may be because the photos were B/W - unless they had a RGB color profile then that is the most likely cause - iPhoto does not work with other color profiles including grey scale - what was the source of these photos?

  • How do I recover photos that were NOT backed up from ipod touch 4th generation?

I have a iPod Touch (4TH Genration). It was frozen for two days straight on the apple logo. I kept holding the two keys and tried to connect it to itunes and it wouldn't budge. On the third day I conected it to itunes, and it told me that it nedded to be restored and that my photos would be backed up. Now here I am with a funny acting ipod and NO photos!
Does anyone know how to get photos that were not backed up?

  • How can I recover photos that were deleted accidentally?

    I am using iPhoto 6.0.6
I accidentally deleted a folder of photos in iPhoto and then emptied the trash from within the program. Is there any way to recover these files? I have not emptied the trash from finder, but I have closed iPhoto.
Is there any possible way to recover these files, either using an option from within OS X or a 3rd party solution?

Don't you have a backup of your library you can recover those photos from? The Finder trash is not connected to iPhoto's trash bin. If you emptied iPhoto's trash then the photos have been deleted from the hard drive. You can run the of SubrosaSoft FileSalvage in it's demo mode to see if it can find and recover those photos before you purchase it. Others have had success in recovering photos as long as there hasn't been a lot of new files added to the HD that might overwrite those files.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • How can I recover photos that have become corrupt

Hi guys, having some trouble with old photos on my pc (windows 7), any help would be much appreciated.
I have some old holiday photos on my pc in a specific folder . I had downloaded a password protection application and had set it up so that i had to use a password to access just that specific folder. I stupidly deleted this password application without
having "un-linked" it from this folder.
This allowed me to access this folder with the pictures in it without the password, however i am no longer able to view any of the photos. They have all changed from a 'JPEG' to a couple of the following types of files : 'TI File',    ')4( File',
             ')(EFile'    'ZUR_ELPRRC_ File',   'DME File'.
I cannot open any of these files with any type of application on my pc (I think). It will not let me preview in windows photo viewer and states that the file "cannot open because its either deleted , or its in a location that isnt available".
I also cannot delete the files as it states that the file' is no longer in the specific location, and to verify its location and try again".
I have also right clicked on the files and selected restore previous versions, which there were none.
If I try open the file with a windows picture view it states that the' file is not found'.
Any idea on how i may be able to recover these files? Any help will be much appreciated!:)
    Thanks Heaps

When you password-protected these folders then you did so to prevent anyone from accessing the pictures unless he had the correct password, even if he deleted the password application itself. Are you now asking how to get around this protection? If you
selected a robust protection scheme then you probably got what you wanted: uncrackable encryption. You need to check the FAQs of this application and/or google for clues. Alternatively you could restore your files from your external backup medium (if you have
    one . . .).

  • How do I recover photos that I deleted

I just returned from a trip, took hundreds of pictures with my iPhone, downloaded them onto my iMac, deleted them from the iPhone, then found that many I had taken did not appear on the iMac. Help!

icloud only stores photos in backups (or in a special case, when using photo stream).  If you have turned on backup and made sure the camera roll is turned on (only photos from camera roll are backed up), then you can get photos back by performing a restore.  But note that users should always sync photos to a computer to archive them, relying on icloud is not foolproof.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1766?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings.  This will erase your device.  Then you will go through the setup screens again as you did when your device was new, and when given the option, select Restore from iCloud Backup.

  • How do I recover photos that are in my library but I can't find the files?

After uploading pics of a car accident I was involved in (to iPhoto 6), I moved them to a separate folder. Now they appear at the top of the iPhoto screen in the Library, and the information appears in the lower left hand corner, but I can't view them, and they're no longer in the folder I moved them to.
These pics might save me a lot of money, so I would very much appreciate a solution.

It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss
Where did you move them to? Did you do this using the Finder? This would explain why iPhoto can't find them.
Of course you backed up this important data, right?
Try a spotlight search for them
    Kind -> Images
    Size -> greater than -> 100kb
Search the whole comuter. It'll find every image.
If they're not in there, then you have trashed them.
You may have some luck revocering them using something like File Salvage
    Regards

In that thread, stellar phoenix photo recovery worked for another user.

The important thing is not to delay recovering the photos. Writes to the storage in the phone may cause the pictures to become permanently lost.

  • How can I recover photos?

Is there a way to recover photos that have been backed up in iphoto using Time Machine on another Mac?  We had our laptop stolen and I would like to recover the photos from the Time machine backup used for the laptop.

If the iPhoto is a version that is compatible with Time Machine, and you are able to directly read the Time Machine backup, you can use Time Machine to restore it.  Look for user tips on Time Machine to do that.
If it is not, you can manually navigate looking for the Pictures folder on your backup, and finding the ones with the most content.  Copying each Pictures folder to a new folder giving each a new name before copying it over will allow you to select each and see which has the largest collection of photos, and to rebuild the library from that one.  To rebuild the iPhoto library, hold the command and option key upon launching iPhoto.  It will let you select the Pictures folder of your choice.  Once you have rebuilt the library, import the rest of the photos.  Some meta data may need to be restored manually for those photos you deleted from a prior backup that you wish to keep.

  • How do I recover photos from my AppleTV photo stream? when I reset my iPhone, I did not get all of my photos back. How do I get these photos off of my Apple TV?

how do I recover photos from my AppleTV photo stream? when I reset my iPhone, I did not get all of my photos back. How do I get these photos off of my Apple TV?

    Hi MrRhea,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like you have photos in your Photo Stream that you would like to download. The photos are not actually stored on your Apple TV, it sounds like they are being displayed from your Photo Stream. Please read over the attached article for information on your Photo Stream and how to download these photos.
My Photo Stream FAQ - Apple Support
Because your Mac and PC have more storage than your iOS devices, you can choose to download all of your My Photo Stream photos automatically.
In iPhoto or Aperture preferences on your Mac, select Photos (or Photo Stream) > My Photo Stream > Automatic Import. All of your photo stream photos will import into your Events, Projects, Photos, Faces, and Places folders in iPhoto or Aperture.
On your PC with My Photo Stream on in the Control Panel, all of your photos will import intoC:\\Users\<user name>\Pictures\iCloud Photos\My Photo Stream
    Best regards,
    Joe

how to recover photo that i deleted accidentally while i was trying to upload the photo to the computer??
also, itn't itune will backup myself whenever i sync???Will the old back up file got updated when i connect the phone with computer??

I don't think recovery software will help since the file isn't just deleted, it's overwritten.  If you want to try, the backups are located at one of these locations:
    Mac OS: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup
    Windows XP: %AppData%\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
    Windows Vista: %AppData%\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
    Windows 7: %AppData%\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

When I upgraded my iPhoto thumbnails, my photos disappeared.  How do I recover them?

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 10 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

Place that first folder of photos that you synced to the iPad within the main folder of photos that you sync from and select them to sync again. You can place any number of subfolders within the main folder that you sync from and select those folders to sync. Just "tick"(select) the folders in the photos tab in iTunes.
