How do I recover playlists on my Windows PC?

I have Windows XP. This morning, I opened iTunes and it asked me to choose a library...not sure why. So I did that, but I lost all of my playlists (I have 500). How do I recover those??

For general library squiffiness following an upgrade the easiest thing is to restore your last backup, but I guess if it were that simple you wouldn't be here.
Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
Since you've "chosen" a library you might not be connecting to the correct one at the moment. If that is the case, close iTunes. Wait a few moments for it to fully close, then tap the icon to start iTunes and immediately press and hold down the shift key until prompted to create or choose a library. Click choose and browse to the iTunes Library.itl file that you have restored into the main iTunes folder.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

• How can I recover files from my Windows 7 backup cd's on Windows 8 laptop?

1. HP ENVY m6 Notebook PC
2. Windows 8

I had an hp laptop with windows 7 on it. After it crashed a couple of times, I made backup dvds using hp's file backup. It actually came out to 11 dvds. I bought a new hp laptop which came with Windows 8. I tried running the application on the dvd's, but it skips over all the files and installs nothing. How do I recover my files on these dvd's?

Hello thelink484,
To me, it sounds like you recovered your operating system and all the preloaded software, on 11 dvd's. You cannot simply install everything like this, from Windows 7 to Windows 8.
You will need to restore on a windows 7 machine, then backup your user files that you want to move to Windows 8.

• IPod shows NO music but "data" is there! How can I recover Playlists, etc?

Turned on my iPod (Windows formatted) and it showed NO music/content at all, like it was completely blank. Asked for Language selection on boot-up, etc.
The home computer is in another state, so I can't just resync to restore the music and playlists. iTunes shows the iPod as having 55GB of "data", but it doesn't show up on the player. It's like the internal database became corrupt.
I've tried a couple of data recovery programs, but nothing works. I'm primarily interested in recovering the PLAYLISTS. I have a backup of all the music, but the playlists took a long time to assemble.
Unless there's an easier fix (I've tried restarting the iPod, etc.) is there a location on the iPod (using Anapod Explorer or something) where the Playlist data is stored? I looked in the ".Trashes" and other folders but didn't see anything resembling Playlist data.

Have you tried Don King's method as outlined here?

Don't know if it will recover the playlist structure though.

• How do i recover icloud backup onto windows pc?

Hi there
My iphones contents - photos emails etc
everything was backed up to icloud,
i no longer have an iphone as the motherboard went bad.
I want to recover my backup from icloud onto my Windows Pc.
How do i do this?

Your backup for iCloud can be accessed on your computer via the iCloud website. Once you log on using the AppleID that was used for iCloud on your device, you will be able access mail, contacts, calendar, notes, reminders, and documents. Photos cannot be accessed on the cloud directly. Hopefully you were regularly backing up your photos to iPhoto or to My Photos on your PC....
If not, then if you have another device on the same iCloud account with Photostream, or if you have iCloud set up on your computer, and you have iPhoto, then you can view the Photostream that way.
The iCloud backup process is used for downloading data to iDevices - not to computers....
Hope this helps.
Cheers,

• How do you recover playlists from I-tunes on PC

My playlists have disappeared from my I-tunes. The music is still there though. How do I find or get my playlists back?

Thanks. I haven't used windows for a while because once when it synched with the player I lost a lot of files (less files in explorer) and had to spend a lot of time reloading - but I'll try that.

• My ipod classic ran out of battery, when I turned it back on all my songs were gone. How can I recover them on a windows vista computer? Also, the itunes on my vista does not have all my original songs. Please help

My Ipod Classic died because it ran out of battery. Finally, today when I was able to plug it into my computer to
charge it, all my music was gone. It did not show up on the Itunes nor was it present on my Ipod. Which freaked
me out. I dont know what to do because I do have Itunes but all the music I had on my Ipod was from my
first computer, which I no longer have because it was stolen. However, on my Itunes it says my Ipod
has 14.27 GB used and 13.55 FREE. So I just want to know how to get my music back on to my Ipod
and that it shows up in Itunes again. I have a Windows Vista so if anyone knows instructions it would
be greatly appreciated!

• How do I recover playlists in my library without connecting my ipod. Help!

I lost my iPod but I am hoping somewhere in my computer the playlists are hidden there so I can recover my music and put onto my phone and iPad. Please help with advise?

You can not
Albums are not a place - they are one of many ways to view the photos in your library - each photo exist one and only one time - Events, Photos, albums, last import, last "n" months, etc are simply different way to view the photo - none take up additional disk space
If you delete a photo form the library it is gone from every view of it

• My session has dissapeared, save for one window. How do i recover it?

A few days ago, i had a session of 4 windows (with several tabs) saved in Firefox so they would open up again when i next opened Firefox. They have worked fine for the past month, but today i only got one window back when i opened up Firefox. This has never happened before. How do i recover my lost session windows?

If you do not see those closed windows in "History > Recently Closed Windows" then the tabs from those windows are gone.
If you use the close X on the title bar to close a window then only the last closed window will be restored.
You need to use "File > Exit Firefox" to close all window to prevent losing windows in case you close the main window and others are still open.

iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.

• How do I recover the music I have purchased after a Windows disaster?

How do I recover the music I have purchased after a Windows disaster? Windows on this computer stopped working correctly. I was told by HP support that the registry was corrupted and that I had to re-install Windows and programs from CDs that came with the computer. I did this and Windows started working correctly again. The only trouble is that all of the music I bought is gone. How do I recover the music I have purchased from iTunes after a Windows disaster and after re-installing Windows?
Please tell me that you know about all of my song purchases and that there is a way I can download all of these to this computer again without having to pay for them again.
I have learned my lesson about Windows. In the short run I plan to buy a backup drive that I can plug into this computer that I can restore from if and when something like this happens to Windows again. In the long run I plan to buy an Apple computer the next time I buy a computer.

You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you may be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download however they are not under any obligation to do so. The policy on lost songs is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage."
You can email them from any of the links on this page: iTMS Customer Service
