How do I recover/reset the administrator password in OS X Server

I have a customer who apparently has a single Administrator acount in OS X Server (10.5X, I believe). They "can't remember" their password. I understand the password reset utility in the workstation version, but I recall reading this has huge consequences for a file server. Is there any safe way to do this?

Hi
"I recall reading this has huge consequences for a file server"
Strange? I have never known of or ever heard of any such consequences.
"Is there any safe way to do this?"
Yes. There are a number of methods you could use but probably the easiest/simplest is to insert the Server Installer Disk, reboot and hold down the 'C' key. Just as you would on the Client OS, use the Password Reset Utility to reset the local administrator's password. You should also reset root's (System Administrator) password at the same time as this would have been syncrhonized when the default local administrator account was first created. Restart the Server when you're done. Login as normal using the password you've just reset.

  • Resetting the administrative password on an Officejet PRO 8600

I lost much of the content of a 4 year old Mac when an electric short burned out the insides in a manner that Apple was unable to determine the causes. The end result is that I found that the administrative password for my 8600 died with the old Mac as I was unable to recover the Keychain which had all the password information in it. I wish now that more importance had been stressed in the instructions when passwords were being set-up, about the future need of them in order to utilize so many important features of the printer.I would very much appreciate any guidanc I can get in how to go about resetting the administrative password of my 8600.

Hi , Welcome to the HP Forums! I see that you are trying to reset the administrative password for your HP Officejet Pro 8600, and I am happy to help! You can do a reset of the printer using the LED screen on the printer. Select Setup, then Tools, then Restore Factory Defaults. "Restore Factory Defaults" is the last item on the list, and then you will have to scroll down to see it.
This will erase all settings on the printer including the administrator password. Hope this helps!  “Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.”

So I forgot my administrator password and I rebooted my computer to reset it and now everything is gone. How do I get all of my data back? Thanks!

Exactly how did you "reboot to reset"?
Rebooting simply means shutting down the machine and turning it back on. That does not erase any data.

You have nothing to loose by trying it.
I doubt it will boot but try it anyhow.
You will need to contact Apple for replacement install disks.

  • Setting the Administrator password on a MDT Server Task Sequence

I've created a SCCM 2012 R2 CU3 MDT 2013 task sequence using the Server Task Sequence template to deploy Windows Server 2012 R2. I'm not doing a capture but just using the .wim file from the source DVD. The problem I'm having is setting the local admin
password in Apply Windows Settings. It's not taking the password that I've assigned it. I'm not sure how many others have created a Server Task Sequence or not but I'd be interested to know how to get around this problem.

Sorry, in Apply Windows Settings I've selected "Enable the account and specify the local administrator password" and entered the local password there. When the system is imaged and I try to log in locally it gives the the error "The user name
or password is incorrect. Try again." error.
I have checked that the local administrator account is enabled so I know it's not that and I've tried multiple times. I even took one of our client task sequences that I know works, made a copy of it, and added the Server 2012 R2 install to it and get the
    same result.

  • How can I reset my administrator password, without knowing the original administrator password?

    Hi guys,
I use a MacBook Pro with OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion. A few months ago I reset my administrator password and have not been able to remember it since. Consequently, I haven’t been able to do any software updates, my computer is running slow and I'm getting a lot of pop-up junk on my screen. I’m the only user on my computer, apart from the Guest User (Sharing only).
How can I reset my administrator password, without knowing the original password?
    Thanks.

  • How do  you reset the root password in Mountain Lion?

After install of Mountain Lion on my old iMac, I could not enter administrator, no password would work, Apple support helped me go through terminal to reset root password and root as administrator . I then was able to reset myself as administrator with a new pasword. I used that paassword a few times now it wont accept it again. I dont remember all the steps to reset the root password and recover from this situation.. Can anyone help?  Is this a bug in Mountain Lion?

I'm having similar issues but other concerns
    1. Can't go into recovery mode since its protected by firmware password, which I don't have. All option keys sequences go into the same firmware padlock, which I don't have the apparent pin.
    2. In terminal mode it didn't happen to recognize that unix command.  Also since I'm just on guest would that reset for the admin or possibly the guest acct?
    3. I've done the DIMM pulls and even though older model, 2011, it didn't appear to a reset for the firmware password.
    Any other options??

  • How can i unlock my dell laptop if i forgot the administrator password?

    Dear Sir,
I forgot my dell laptop administrator password and locked out of the laptop, now i have to use my laptop to finish the home work, how can i unlock my dell laptop if i forgot
    the administrator password?
    Thanks in advance!

Forgot dell laptop administrator password? It would be very frustrated if you are urgent to use the laptop but locked out of it.
    Here are the methods
how to unlock dell laptop forgot password. I hope it will be helpful for you.
Method 1: Reset password on your dell laptop with password reset disk
This method only works when you have
created a password reset disk before you forgot password.
<1>. On your dell laptop logon screen, press
Enter directory, and then a password incorrect hint pups up, click on
    OK to close it.
    <2>. Click
Reset password… bellow the password text box.
<3>. When the password reset wizard appears, click
    Next.
<4>. Insert the password reset disk, click
    Next.
    <5>. Type in
new password, and the new password hint, click
    Next, click Finish.
<6>. Then you can login with the new password.
Method 2: Unlock your laptop password with Offline NT Password and Registry Editor
If you have not created a password reset disk before, you can create a live cd or bootable usb with Offline NT Password Registry Editor which is a freeware program. It is base on the text console, so it
may be a difficult to carry out.
Here are the main steps to use Offline NT password registry editor:
    <1>.
Get Offline NT Password Registry Editor and use it to create a live cd or bootable usb.
    <2>.
Set your dell laptop to boot with the cd or usb.
<3>. Follow the instruction to finish the operation when the password reset program starts.

  • How do I reset the e-printer's web embedded server network password?

I have an HP Photosmart 7520 e-all in one. I use Windows 7.  I could tried to set a password in the EWS network tab. I could not change the user name so it remains "admin". I set the passwork and it seemed ok. But when I tried to log on again, it would not let me in. How do I reset the network password?

I recommend that you run "Restore Network Defaults" from the front panel and then run the wireless setup wizard again.  This will wipe out all your network settings.
