How do I recreat a .mac site at the same address from a crashed hard drive?

Hey folks..i would really appreciate help with this one..its tricky..
I am a pro musician and I use my 3 year old macbook for everything..music, marketing, etc...Well it crashed last month and I lost EVERYTHING..(I know, I know..I'm and idiot for not backing up)
I used iWEB for my website..I bought a domain name from Godaddy.com and had it forward to the long mac address to make it easier for people to find me..the site is still up but I dont have the actual site I made from the iWEB template on the new hard drive anymore. My questions are..
1. Is there anyway to save the current site back onto my new hard drive?
2. If not, how do i rebuild the site in the exact place (mac address)so that when people enter the Godaddy address (gregvarro.com), it forwards them to the new site?
I really would appreciate any help on this issue..thanks in advance!
Greg

Greg ~ Welcome to the discussions. If you're asking whether it's possible to import your published site on MobileMe back into iWeb on your new HD, the answer is no. Only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb.
You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.
Paragraph 2.3 of this FAQ page gives some tips on how to use published files, graphics, photos, etc., to help rebuild the site from scratch:

I may not be understanding your qstn properly, but if you re-create your iWeb site and publish it the same way you did before, your Godaddy domain will point to the new site just as before — as all you would be doing is replacing the old contents of your site with the re-created contents.
...If that answer doesn't satisfy, you could post in this +"MobileMe iWeb and Personal Domain"+ forum:

I believe because you migrated from a Nokia to an iPhone you need to register the Bn phone number with your Apple ID so it can be used for iMessage. The Pn number seems to be the only one registered
    Go here > https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/
Manage your Apple ID and see if that does the trick

How can I find my Mac Adress for the Ethernet Port from a Apple Airport Express Device ?

You can only locate, lock or erase your device when it is logged into iCloud and 'Find My Phone' is enabled, additionally the device will need to be switched on and connected to a wifi or cellular network.
Unfortunately, you cannot activate iCloud or 'Find My Phone' remotely.

  • How do I get my mac to reopen the same folder I am working in?

I use multiple files of Excel or Word on my iMac and when I go to open I want it to open to the last folder I was in.  This worked this way with using Excel or Word on a PC.  How do I get it to do the same thing on the Mac?

Apps will manage this on their own. I don't beleive there is a system-wide setting.
For example, Office sets a default folder location for user files. The first save (in a session) of a new document will start there. Once I've saved a new document in a location, Word uses that as the default starting location for any subsequent documents I create in that session unless I change it. Is yours not doing this?
There is a program called DefaultFolder that will manage a global default location (I think). I don't use it, so I don't know if it works in Mavericks or if it will solve your dilemma.

  • 2013 new Mac Pro will not boot up from and external hard drive

New 2013 MAC PRO running Yosemite will not not see a bootable external hard drive when starting up using option key?  Same External hard drive will boot up on 2013 Mac Book Pro running Yosemite.

Reading between tea leaves sometimes leaves some things to imagination.
You used SuperDuper latest version that was recently upgraded for Yosemite on a laptop running 10.10 (or even 10.9.3+) that is in a X-brand USB3 drive enclosure, not bus powered btw, moved it to the nMP and plugged it into a direct port, not going through a hub (monitors have hubs of course and there is only one real bus+controller on the nMP that ALL USB3 travels through.
Thunderbolt and self-powered would be nice but they cost a bit more.
I have read where Carbon Copy Cloner (now v 4.x) worked where others failed. I use to use both but have used CCC since its inception and use back in 10.2.2 forward along with SD! for a few years based on comments here.
Drivers missing? someone compared system extensions and found the ones needed for say the nMP are not there? how about running a 10.10.1 combo update and see if that changes - we USE to be able to apply updates to a system that we were not booted from, very handy (could update a sparse disk image of a system that way, one created with CCC).
WD Passports seem popular with laptop users, but they come here to this forum complaining that it doesn't work, disappears off the bus (spins down goes to sleep, acts like a green drive acts).

  • How to recover files from a crashed hard drive

I believe my hard drive is in the early stages of crashing.  Last night I was using my Macbook Pro and was running safari and microsoft word when all the sudden the computer froze up and I got the spinning wheel.  I waited for about 5 minutes hoping the wheel would go away and after no avail decided to turn the computer off by holding the power button.  I waited a couple minutes to let it cool down and then I rebooted it and I was then given the jumping folder with a ? on it.  I did some research and found that this basically means your hard drive was crashing.  So I read a solution online that if you hit the Option button while the Mac is booting up it will allow you to select a hard drive.  I did this and luckily I was able to select my main hard drive and the computer booted up, but once I had logged in and was at the desktop screen the computer was very slow and when I tryed to open Finder I was once again given the spinning wheel.  The wheel continued to spin for a solid 10 minutes and the screen finally went black with just the spinning wheel.  So I once again decided to turn off the computer by holding the power button.  I have gone and talked to 2 different tech support stores and both are pretty sure that the hard drive is failing, which I pretty much already knew, and that it is going to be around 75$ to recover the lost information and another 125$ to install a brand new hard drive.
However, I have been using Time Machine to back up my computer but I have not backed it up since August 23rd which was about 2 weeks ago.  So I would lose all the files that I have made in the last 2 weeks basically and since I started school I have done quite a bit of work and so I do not want to lost the files.
What solutions can you come up with that I could use to possibly recover my files?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro.  Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.  Two free alternatives are Disk Drill and TestDisk.  Look for them and demos at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads. Recovery software usually provide trial versions that enable you to determine if the software would help before actually paying for it. Beyond this or if the drive has completely failed, then you would need to send the drive to a recovery service which is very expensive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

  • How do I set up iTunes to get music and movies from 2 different hard drives?

I have an iMac and a 2 TB Apple Time capsule. I am creating a disk image on the time capsule so I can use 1TB for Time Machine backups and the other 1TB as a wireless external hard drive. The main reason for this is I only have a 500GB hard drive an my iMac and I would like to store all of my movies on the Time Capsule. How do I set up iTunes to pull my music and evrything else like it currently is on my iMac's hard drive, but access my Time Capsule's hard drive for movies?
    Is this even possible?
    Thanks,

You need to use one iTunes library for music and another alternate library for your movies.  This explains how to open an alternate iTunes Library file or create a new one, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1589

  • How do I display two open sites at the same time on screen instead of switching between tabs?

I need to open two different websites using Firefox. They appear as tabs, but I can only view one tab at a time and continually have to switch back and forth. I need to have both separate websites open and displayed simultaneously on the screen. Is there a way to do this or an add-on that will support multiple open windows on screen?

You can open all the pages in separate windows and resize and position the windows horizontally or vertically to have them both visible at the same time.
Note the you can drag a tab slightly downward in the browsing window to tear off the tab or use the right-click menu of the tab (Move to New Window).

  • How do I get iTunes Match to upload my music library from my external hard drive?  It only got some of the music and not a lot of it at that.

I'm trying iTunes Match and not having a great time of it so far.  It only got a fraction of my music from my music library.  I contacted support and they told me that it would recognize my external hard drive and take all of the music.  My collection is all from CDs with the exception of a few from iTunes.  I just want more of my collection to be available.
    Can anyone help with that

The issue is not related to the external drive. iTunes Match has difficulties matching tracks ripped fom CDs because they may differ slightly from the versions on sale in iTunes. You can try the match again. Otherwise do a search of this forum. There are already many discussions on this subject here that may help you.

  • How do I recover files from a crashed hard drive?

When I turned on my laptop, a grey screen with a folder with a question mark was blinking on the screen.  My tech guys at my work said that it can't locate the hard drive.  They are looking at it for me right now (they are apple certified) but my main concern is recovering pictures that are on there.  I am a local photographer and I have some pictures I had JUST downloaded and hadn't had time to move over to my other storage before this happened.  Will I be able to recover those at all?!?!  I'm having a slight meltdown!!

You are probably going to have to send the disk drive out to data recovery service. This is going to be expensive like $$$$

I have a few (8) computers with some having died of old age and hardiac failure with itunes loaded and synced with my devices. Need to sync current content but cannot "authorise" another more youthful computer without access to the old dearly departed computers. What gives- was this scenario not foreseen. is there no other way to de-authorise a computer but to perform a resurrection of the dead?

Use the Deauthorize All command documented in this article.
