How do I reduce file size of iPhoto library that's had photos deleted?

I created a calendar in my iPhoto library (which contains thousands of photos). I want to save the calendar now as a separate library with just the calendar in it. I duplicated my iPhoto library and deleted everything except for the dozen or so images used in the calendar. However my iPhoto library is still over 10GB! I've checked the trash is empty and I've rebuilt the database. Is there anything I can do to reduce the file size of the library?
Thanks

Empty the system trash. If that doesn't help:
Go to your Pictures Folder and find the iPhoto Library there. Right (or Control-) Click on the icon and select 'Show Package Contents'. A finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Is there an iPod Photo Cache? You can delete that too...

  • How can I reduce the size of IPhoto ?

I have tested IPhoto with a few hundred pictures.
I do not find this software very user-friendly, in particular because I can no longer locate the files of these pictures. I kept fortunately a copy of my complete set of my photo collection.
I removed all pictures from IPhoto, but the application shows a size of 600 Mb.
How can I reduce the size of IPhoto and recover this storage space?

in particular because I can no longer locate the files of these pictures.
There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
Rolls in the iPhoto Window (View -> Film Rolls) correspond exactly with the Roll Folders in the Originals Folder in the iPhoto Library Folder. You can move photos between Rolls, you can rename rolls, edit them, create them, as long as you do it via the iPhoto Window. Check out the Info Pane (wee 'i', lower left) the name and date fields are editable. Edit a Roll Name using the Info Pane, the Roll Folder in iPhoto Library Folder/Originals will also have the new name.

  • Btach reduce file size within iPhoto interface

    Fellow iPhotorers
Is it possible to bulk or batch reduce file size within iPhoto - i.e. without having to export then re-import the pics THEN delete the originals?
For example - if I have shot a bunch of pics at high res which I decide or worth keeping as small (low KB) jpegs and not 3MB camera originals.
    Cheers
    Russell

    Russell:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Depends on what you mean by resize. Do you want to reduce the pixel dimensions, say from 2272 1704 to 800 x 600 keeping the same ratio of dimensions, and, thus, reduce the file size? Or do you want to keep the original pixel dimensions and reduce the file size, which requires a reduction in quality thru greater compression?

  • Reducing file size in iphoto

I needed to free up disc space (I have over 6000 photos stored in iphoto). I couldn't find a solution in this forum, but have hit on a way that works.
    1. Move photos to a CD to preserve original file size. 2. Export photos at reduced file size to a folder on the desk top. 3. Trash original photos. 4. Import reduced size photos. 5. Trash folder.
Reduced size photos are fine for viewing and 4x6 prints. Larger prints can be made from the CD.
Perhaps there's an easier way, but this works.

    File -> Export
Note the Jpeg Quality setting. That has the most impact on file size.

  • How do I reduce file size in Adobe 9.4.5?

    Hello,
I'm using Adobe 9.4.5. I can't figure out how to reduce file size. My 'save as' options don't offer this because they only offer 'save a copy' or 'save as text'. And I don't have the 'Document/reduce file size' option. It's simply not there.
I'd appreciate any advice on how to do this.
    Many thanks.

You can also try Document>Reduce File Size. The PDF Optimizer has more features, but Reduce File Size my meet your need. I find different results with both methods, making me sometimes wonder which is the best approach.

  • How do you reduce file size of a PDF if Save As doesnt work?

I have been trying to reduce the size of a PDF, using the Save As > Optimized PDF method.
I have also tried Save As > Reduced Size PDF.
This is on a file made up of 20 pages of full page Jpegs. (These were generated by the script in Photoshop that generates Jpeg files from Layer Comps within the document.)
If I use Reduced Size PDF, I get a greatly reduced file size but the image quality suffers greatly. (Lots of artifacts and blurryness)
There are no options to choose the level of compression I want.
If I use Optimized PDF method, I cant seem to reduce the file size no matter what I set the Jpeg compression to.
Is there some way to cut the size of the file down but not lose so much image quality?
    Any suggestions?

Part of the problem here is that the files that are produced when I run the script to output files from layer comps are very big.
If I "save for web" for each layer comp, I wind up with way smaller Jpegs. Thus a much smaller PDF.
So the question is: Can you make the script, Layer Comps to Files, create smaller more optimized Jpegs? (Like you get when you save for web)

  • How do I reconnect files referencing my iPhoto library?

Hi, I have a bunch of files that I've imported from iPhoto but Aperture is saying are offline.  I know I have to reconnect them to the masters in the iPhoto library, but when I try, using the Locate Referenced File command, the "iPhoto Library" at the bottom pane doesn't show me the folder structure to locate the file.  i.e. iPhoto Library > Masters > etc. > etc.
How can I reconnect images that are referening my iPhoto Library?
    Thanks!!
    Sal.

iPhoto stores pictures in a combined package file. To archive part of your library, you would have to select the photos and export them.

  • Image Capture - How do I reduce file size of scan document?

I am using image scan. I scan the file (about 7 pages) and it comes to 16.8M. I cannot email it at that file size. How do I get the scan to be less detailed or so to allow me to email it? I tried messing with DPI, etc... that didnt work.
When I went into Finder to compress it to a .zip the file size did not change.
The person on the other end cannot receive files >10M.
    Thanks
    Nick

I figured it out if anyone needs it in the future. In the details section there are 3 ways to scan. Text, Color or Black and White. Choose text and increase DPI a tad and it made file size 194K.

  • How do I reduce file size in Preview?

how do I reduce size in Preview? Tools > Adjust Size is greyed out. I have a scan of receipts at 300 dpi that's 5.3 MB. I want to reduce for e mail.

I did go back and saved to .jpg and got an option to determine the quality and settled for 225 KB image. That works and it looks fine.
Unfortunately, though I clicked correct answer on your post - it looks like its giving me credit. I tried to undo, but I can't.

  • How do I reduce the size of a picture that I dragged into a document

How do I change the size of a photo that I dragged from pictures into a document?  It's huge.

Try putting your cursor over the document, hold down 'control' and click.
    What are the available options?
Of course, the exact method will depend on what program the document you've opened belongs to, Word, Pages, Libreoffice, etc?

  • I went into the original files in the iphoto library and organised the photos there, now when I try to look at the photos in iphoto the tiles are there but when I try to enlarge or put into a slide show a big grey explanation mark occurs?

I tried to organise my iphoto originals to it would be easier to back them up onto my hard drive, so I renamed them and grouped them in the orinigal file. Now when I go onto iphoto to view the photos in a slide show a big exclamation mark comes up and if I click on the photo to see the original file it can't find it. Any ideas?

You won't be able to run the rebuild function and restore your library becaue you renamed and regrouped your original photos from the Finder.  I doubt if you can change the names back to their original names and put them back in the folders they were in originally so your only option is get your backup library and replace the one you damaged.
If you don't have a backup copy of the library from just before the problem that contains all of your photos you will need to start over from scratch as follows:
Start over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
    1.  Move the existing library folder to the desktop.
    2. Open the library package like this.
    3. Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
    4. Drag the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
This will create a new library with the same Events as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
In the future stay out of the iPhoto Library package and only access the photos using iPhoto.

  • How to reduce file size

I have one page file. There is no image, just text. Now the file size is 3MB.
I cannot reduce size anyhow. I have moved the tick from embed fonts at save option tab but file size is same.
How I can reduce file size?
In addition this file is used so many times.

    Probably not.
If you don't see the Master Page tab in Designer, then the way in which you imported the existing PD means that the page was brought in as artwork. I don't think you will be able to reduce it now.
One potential option would be to:
Go back to the existing PDF and export the page as an image. You can process the image in Photoshop (or similar) and get the image file size down.
Then start a new form in Designer and on the Master Page drag on an Image object and associate it with the image in step 1.
Save this new form and see is the file size acceptable. If so, proceed.
Now open your existing 3Mb form in Designer and copy all of the objects.
Paste these into your new form.
You may need to move things around a bit.
    Hope that helps,
    Niall

  • Reduce file size

How do you reduce file size in Acrobat XI Standard?

Acrobat Standard doesn't have the optimise features, you would need Pro for that.
The other option is to create the pdf files using different job options, to lower the resolution of images for example.

  • HT1229 How do I reduce the size of photo in iPhoto?  The size of my imported photos are 2 - 3 MB and for my purpose I need 200 - 400 KB.  Any suggestions appreciated.

How do I reduce the size of photo in iPhoto?  The size of my imported photos from my camera are 2 - 3 MB and for my purpose I need 200 - 400 KB.   Scanned copies of older photographs with a size of 100 to 500 KB work very well.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

File -> Export and make your choices in the Export dialogue.
Jpeg Quality and Size will have most effect on file size. Note that 'Size' refers to the pixel dimensions of the photo.
