How can I improve picture quality...now grainy after IOS update!

    Hello, dreamer5th.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Here are some troubleshooting steps that I would recommend going through when experiencing this issue.  They are labeled for the iPhone; however, the steps also apply to your iPad.  Also, make sure to test the camera in well lighted conditions as this can affect picture quality.
Camera isn't functioning or has undesired image quality
If the screen shows a closed lens or black image, force quit the Camera app.
If you do not see the Camera app on the Home screen, try searching for it in Spotlight. If the camera does not show up in the search, check to make sure that Restrictions are not turned on by tappingSettings > General > Restrictions.
Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from any obstructions. Use a microfiber polishing cloth to clean the lens.
Cases can interfere with the camera and the flash. Try gently cleaning the lens with a clean dry cloth or removing the case if you see image or color-quality issues with photos.
Try turning iPhone off and then back on.
Tap to focus the camera on the subject. The image may pulse or briefly go in and out of focus as it adjusts.
Try to remain steady while focusing:
Still images: Remain steady while taking the picture. If you move too far in any direction, the camera automatically refocuses to the center.
Note: If you take a picture with iPhone turned sideways, it is automatically saved in landscape orientation.
Video: Adjust focus before you begin recording. You can also tap to readjust focus while recording. Exiting the Camera application while recording will stop recording and will save the video to the Camera Roll.
Note: Video-recording features are not available on original iPhone or iPhone 3G.
If your iPhone has a front and rear camera, try switching between them to verify if the issue persists on both.

If the issue persists see the last section labeled Issue not resolved.

  • How to get good picture quality on a burned DVD slideshow using IDVD?

After producing a slideshow on IDVD from either jpg or psd photos, it looked great when I played the project. Picture quality was excellent. When I burned a DVD to share the slideshow with a friend and when I played this on the same computer, it had lost resolution and looks awful. I am using best quality but this made no difference. On a hdtv using a standard player, the quality is mediocre. Is there any way to get a decent picture quality. I have also burned a DVD and CD from the IPhoto album, and the quality is better. IPhoto will not burn a slideshow or at least I do not know how to. Can you produce decent quality DVD using IDVD or is there a better application to produce decent DVD of photo slideshows?

....or is there a better application to produce decent DVD of photo slideshows?
Yes. It's called DVDSP (apple's top of the line DVD Authoring application). It has a much longer learning curve than iDvd and is more $$$ but it does work well. The Help Menu alone is over 640 pages long. However, is this app significantly better than iDvd solely in terms of visual quality?.... No.
But it does offer many more tools to address visual artifacts on the finished DVD, more audio control, much better control of durations per slide, audio, buttons that work as expected, among other things. (for additional examples of this see chapter 12 of the DVDSP Help Menu / starting on p. 373).
Short of DVDSP, and much less money, you can also try these 2 third party apps which come highly recommended on this iDvd Forum:
    http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php
    http://www.boinx.com/fotomagico/overview/
At the moment most macs do not yet support burning to Blueray (which does offer much better results). Once this technology is more commonplace, then I believe we will see a significant improvement in what you are trying to do above.
Hope this is helpful but if not just come on back.

  • How to get best picture quality using iDVD to burn a movie from iMovie?

I would appreciate any guidance on options to choose and approaches such that I get the best picture quality when I view an iMovie product on a wide screen HD TV using a DVD burned with iDVD. Choose wide screen or standard format in iMovie? Best Performance or Prof. Quality in iDVD? ...

    Good Morning,
My computer is using Snow Leopard 10.6.5 and has ilife 09 installed on an imac. I have been reading it is better to use imovie 06. When I tried to do a custom install from the 06 disk imovie and idvd were grayed out but had a checkmark. It would not let me deselect idvd. Not really knowing how to do this I quite the process. Can you or someone please advise me on how and what exactly to do in order to accomplish a custom install of imovie 06? Should I delete imovie 09 first? If so how is this accomplished. Perhaps it would be less complicated to purchase photo to movie? Really do not want to spend unless it is necessary since I only know a little about what I'm doing but enough to be dangerous to my computer
    Thanks,

  • HOW DO I CORRECT PICTURE QUALITY

    Hello--
I have just finished authoring my project in DVD Studio Pr 4 and all is perfect EXCEPT: the picture quality is poor.
I started in Final Cut Pro, used Compressor at the Best Setting and it does not look good as the master.
    Any suggestions?
I was going to get my master (on DVCAM tape) and have it ENCODED via hardware at a facility and then bring it into DVDSP4 as an ASSET so that the quality is as it is on the master.
Does this mean that I may lose quality by doing this?
    Is this the best method?
I do not want to re-encode because it took so long on my system. Should I consider bringing in my friend's G5 Dual 2 to continue and encode again.
Thanks, all! This is an amazing site.

    Hello all--
Thanks for your post. Okay, here's the skinny:
    1. I am burning to dual layer disc because when I encoded the 54 minute version, the file was 2.5 gigs and when I encoded the 29 minute version of my show, it ended up being 1.7 gigs. This with the special features ended up making the Studio Pro file 5.4 gigs which was too big to put on a dvd-5.
To be honest, I would rather burn this to a DVD-5 instead of a DVD-9 because manufacturing costs would be low so...
    2. If I encode my show again, should I:
Go from Final Cut and Export:
    Quicktime? or
    MPEG?
What type of encode should I use "High Quality" and what bitrate should it be set on.
    3. Regarding DVD stock, I will stick with Verbatim but I was wondering:
    Should I use DVD-R, RW, +, - ? It's really confusing.
I am mostly having trouble with transitions. That is when it looks the worst...other areas of the film (movement, etc.) are fine.
    Thanks for the help.

  • How can I upgrade pictures quality in safari in iPad 3 cellular?

I have a problem with very bad quality of the pictures in my web viewer safari. Can I change same settings to make it better?

Some isp's downgraded the quality of pictures to improve download time.
Does this occur with celular?  WifI?  try both.
Provide an example web page with the problem.  the link.
    Try a different web browser.
Upgrade ios to the latest version.

  • How come the camera picture quality is so grainy.

is there anyway to make my camera quality better on my i pad? it is very grainy and not as good a quality as my i phone?
    any suggestions?

Remember, it IS a 5MP camera, most phones are double or even tripple that these days. Make sure that you have HDR turned on when taking pictures, it will make a difference.
It will never compare to the iPhone 5S camera.

  • How do I reduce quality of a music file?

If I have a music file on my hard disk which was imported from cd using Windows Media Player or other, how can I reduce the quality of it from 128kbps to 64 kbps? (or any other size)
Can you do this on itunes? I know you can set the quality if importing from CD but what about just a file? Do you have to use other software to do this? Anyone know how to do it? Thanks.

    Stephen,
Can you do this on itunes?
Yes you can and I'll tell you how but first a quick trip to the department of unsolicited advice which may, or may not, be of concern to you: what you're proposing is not the best strategy from an audio fidelity point of view, not least because a 64 kbps copy of a 128 kbps "original" will provide worse quality than importing from a CD original @ 64 kbps would.
Now back to your question. Assuming the songs are in an iTunes-compatible format and are now in your iTunes Library, change the settings in the iTunes Edit menu > Preferences > Advanced tab > Importing sub-tab for the format you're working with to Custom > 64 kbps.
This will affect songs you import with iTunes in the future but if you select one of the songs you want to convert in the main iTunes display and then go to the Advanced menu > Convert Selection to ..., iTunes will create a file at the newly-selected encoding rate. The 128 kbps file will remain in the Library as well but you can delete it if you desire.

  • Ipod to TV, Is there a way to get picture quality ?

I have the dock and av cables. I played a video that was downloaded from itunes.
The picture is distorted. Does anyone know how to get better picture quality?

Probably not. This is one of the problems with video from iTunes. If you have a large size screen or HDTV then iTunes video will likely not look 'good'.
If I remember correctly iTUnes video is 640x480.

  • How do I reduce the size of my site?

    Hi Everyone,
I've scoured the forum for over half an hour now and I couldn't find an answer to my question (sorry if I've missed something).
I love iweb but the site I've created seems painfully huge. I have 2 photo pages (each with about 80 photos on them) and 3 text pages with a few graphics also. (http://www.grandmagavan.com/). How can I reduce the quality of the photos to make the site load faster? Bearing in mind I have almost 200 photos to resize!
Also, my page backgrounds keep disappearing once I publish it? All except one page.
    Thanks in advance

    M,
I use downsize software http://stuntsoftware.com/software/Downsize/ to reduce the file size while still maintaining good quality of my images. I was also recommended imagewell software http://xtralean.com/IWOverview.html here in the forums.
    hope this helps.

  • How do I reduce the file size of my pictures

I am running out of space on my hard drive and notice that my iphoto library contains over 5000 pictures and is about 15GB.  This is about 3MB per picture.  I checked and lots are over 10MB.  Most pictures I only print in 10x15, the largest i ever printed was A4 sized. I guess i don't need to keep such large files.  These cameras are now set to make pictures with too many pixels I guess...
does anyone know of a way to reduce the size of all my picture files?
    thanks
    p

    1. Reducing the file sizes of your pictures will not just reduce their quality when you print, it wll also negatively affect their quality no matter how you view them. Remember the screen quality on your next mac will be better than this one, and even more so on the one after.
    2. The simplest solution to a size issue is to store the Library on an external disk, You can do this with iTunes and iMovie too.
    3. If you really want to reduce the quality of your photos then there is no way to do that in iPhoto. Here's what you'd have to do:
Export the Pics from iPhoto (File -> Export) and in the Export dialogue make your choices on Jpeg Quality (the amount of compression used) and size (the dimensions)
    Delete the pics from iPhoto
Import the ones who have exported back to iPhoto.
Give away your camera and get a lower quality one

  • Imported pictures are HUGE.  Way too big.  How do I reduce JPEG size?

JPEG size imports WAY TOO BIG.  How do I reduce JPEG size?  Thanks so much@!!

Set your camera to take lower quality pictures is the obvious answer here. You can reduce the size of image already in iPhoto when exporting them.

How does iPhoto play a part in this?  You're in the iPhoto forum.  Shouldn't you be asking your question in the iPhone forum?  I'll ask the powers to be to move you question to the iPhone forum.

  • How can I reduce the size of a picture in iPhoto so it is small enough to post on the web.???

How can I reduce the size ( Pixels) of a picture in Iphoto so I can post it on the web???

You could also export the image and use your Preview application to change pixel dimensions.
    Open the image in Preview.
Go to: Tools > Image size.
Type in the dimensions you want.

  • I upgraded to iPhoto 11 and drag and dropped my old library into it, causing picture quality to reduce

I gather that I shouldn't have done this as it copies each thumbnail and this reduces the quality. I then exported the pictures to my Pictures folder as they weren't there. My question is; I still have the original Library with pictures. Is there anything I can do to start the process again so I ma getting the same qualitry of images I had previously?

Let me start from the beginning. I had a problem with iPhoto, after trying a few things myself, I took it to the Apple store, who tried a few things and then decided to backup my files, then erase everything and start from scratch. New OS, reload Applications etc. I then went to iPhoto and simply dragged the iPhoto library which was within pictures onto iPhoto. It got all my photos, but very poor quality. I now understand this is not the best way to do it.
    So, I need to know the besy way to;
    1) Remove all the pictures from iPhoto as they are poor quality
    2) Replace with the original quality pictures that I had.
I have located a file called Originals within the iPhoto Library folder which was in Pictures which contains all my photos at the quality I want them. So another way to put the question is; what is the easiest way of getting these pictures into iPhoto and replacing the poor quality ones that are currently there.
    Thanks guys.
