How do I reformat a QT movie?

I am trying to reformat a QuickTime AV clip from my digital camera to an .mpg or .avi format so the file size can be reduced substantially from 500kb. I have used the "Export to mpeg-4" function as recommended by an Apple tech. The file size did compress from 530kb to 36 kb. However, the process took nearly 30 minutes, and only the sound played back, not the picture. I used Real Player 10.5 to try the playback. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Nothing odd there. The Photo-JPEG video is very standard (back to QT version 3).
I suspect you've failed to include the video track in your MPEG-4 export which would explain the tiny file size, too.
You're not going to get a much smaller file size than its current format and it is very compatible (more so than MPEG-4).
If you want to reduce the file size the first place to start is the movie dimensions. Export to 320X240 as a .mov file using the same Photo-JPEG video codec and Linear PCM at the identical settings of the source.
If the file absolutely must be made into an .mp4 file you should use "Pass through" for both the audio and video.
Compressing this already very tiny file size using other codecs will not gain you much file size savings. Reducing its dimensions will.

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.

You should certainly be able to add content by reference to itunes from such a disk (even before the update) - so long as itunes knows the location of the file (set Preferences not to copy to local library when adding the media) it will stream it to AppleTV if the disk is available.
I hope you're right, but I'd be surprised if current Extremes can be upgarded to provide a full Home Sharing service - marvellous if they can but I'd be surprised as i've long said we need an Apple media server either based on TC or AE to do this kind of thing.

You don't use Airplay. You set up Home Sharing on both and under the Computers section of AppleTV you'll then find it under Movies (or Rentals if rented), assuming it's in a compatible format.

1. iTunes won't offer cloud downloads for songs that it "thinks" are in your library, even if it "knows" the files are missing. If you've exhaustively searched for the missing files and there is no prospect of repair by restoring to them to their original locations, or connecting to new ones, then delete that tracks that display both the missing exclamation mark and are of media kind Purchased/Protected AAC audio file. Don't hide from iTunes in the cloud when asked, close iTunes, then reopen. You can download from the cloud links or iTunes Store > Quicklinks > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer > All songs > Download all.
2. Why? Not sure, perhaps 3rd party tools or accidental key presses combined with previously hidden warning messages when trying to organize the library. There is a hint that using the feature to downsample media as it is synced to a device may also be involved, though I've not replicated it. Whatever the reason a backup would protect your media.

Have you tried clicking the share icon when it is selected (the box with and arrow at the top) to see if you get an option to "open in..." and then select videos app.

I just rented a movie from my iPad2 and tried to play it through my ATV2 with AirPlay and same problem.... This is absurd guys. Apple I know there are copyright hoops to jump through but come on!! The whole pitch behind AirPlay and AppleTV was to make it easy to watch my purchases on my TV no matter what device they were on. Now I've got to hold my iPad in front of my face to watch a movie for nearly 3 hours!! And when I go to the support site I have no option other than to send an email to billing, screw this. I've not bought a DVD since I purchased my ATV2 over a year ago but if you guys are gonna pull this crap then what incentive do I have to continue the use of something that may or may not work the way it was advertised.
By the way, this is the first time I've had this problem because I normally rent straight off the ATV or my computer, which by the way I was considering replacing my PC with an iPad but looks like you guys aren't ready for me to make that kind of a switch.

Hold on. I don't know if the above will work with a rented movie. There's all kinds of restrictions on what you can do with rented movies.

How can I import an m4v movie from my desktop to my event Library in iMovie? I want to include the m4v movie into another project in iMovie.

When you import DV Stream from tape, iMovie 11 will assume that you are importing raw footage from a camera, rather than a finished movie. It will create a new clip everytime it detects a scene break (the record start/stop button was pressed). These clips will be placed in chronolgical order - not the order they were on the tape.
One way around this is to import the tape into the application that you used to create it. For example, if you used iMovie 6, import the tape back into imovie 6. In iMovie 6, you can export the tape back out using FILE/EXPORT USING QUICKTIME. Choose the DV codec in an MOV container. You can then import this MOV file into iMovie 11 and have everything in the proper order for your finished movie.
Another option is to use FInal Cut Pro X.

But in terms of my initial query; thanks for responding. But no, this is NOT the cause of the problem. I have auto sync and sync over wifi activated, but have also selected manually manage music and videos. Plus, all of my music and videos are on my macbook, absolutely all of it, so if it my phone was syncing with my macbook everything would still be on the phone. Life would be peachy if my phone jsut copied everything that was on my macbook, but unfortuantely it keeps deleting tracks for no apparent reason.
Any thoughts greatly welcomed, because at the moment i can only conclude that my iphone is crap.
