How do I reformat and start over on an outdated system without buying a new computer?
It would appear that when I deleted the partition I originally had set up for Boot Camp, I did it through Disk Utility instead of Boot Camp. I now have about 65 gb of empty hard drive space that I can't utilize and my start up disk is almost full. I get a message that the disk can't be verified and the option to repair the disk isn't availble (greyed out). The system also wont allow me to resize my start up disk regardless of what I try. When I put my original Snow Leopard cd in in an effort to erase and reformat the system so I can start from scratch, it tells me it cant because it is outdated and the system has been upgraded to a newer operating system. I have everything backed up and would be happy just erasing the entire thing and starting from scratch with my original Snow Leopard OS and build it back up to current. Anyone have any ideas? My Mac Mini still works great and from a hardware standpoint is in excellent condition...
My next suggestion, get yourself an external USB or
Firewire hard drive (Firewire preffered because it is faster)
and clone your Mac installation to it using Carbon Copy Cloner
or SuperDuper (this is a good idea anyway, even without your
issues). Be sure you reformat/partition the external drive to
GUID partition scheme so it will reboot. After this is complete,
boot to it and then reformat and repartion the entire hard drive.
When it is complete, then clone the external drive back to the internal.
The above process should allow you to fix things without the need
to do any reinstalls and as a bonus, you end up with a fully bootable
back up of your system which you can update periodically.
Another option, is to create a USB memory stick based Recovery HD
(http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4848). Then boot to this and use Disk
Utility and reformat/repartition the internal drive and then use this to
reinstall Mavericks. This method does require reinstalling everything
and be sure to backup all your data before.
The reason that you may not be able to fix this currently is
perhaps you are trying to do it from the same disk you are
running from.

I was transferring data from my old iMac to my new iMac via Time Machine. After about 4 hours, the electrical power fluctuated and turned off my wi-fi. Now most of my necessary programs are useless. How do I erase that mess and start over?
Hello there, LynnS.
The following Knowledge Base article and it's referenced link should get you started with the Erase and Install of Mavericks:
OS X Mavericks: Erase and reinstall OS X

Once you've gone through those 2 articles, this article should help you with restoring from your Time Machine Backup:

I bought an iPhone 5 at Best Buy, and they started the setup assistant process. Now I can't go back and start over so I can sync my phone to my iTunes account. I have an old iPhone 3GS and didn't use the iCloud. I backed up to my computer. And now I can't reset my iPhone 5 to sync to my iTunes.
Help.I purchased a iPhone 5, and after completing a backup of my old iPhone 3GS, I in error selected Set Up as a New iPhone in the Setup Assistant.
I connected to iTunes and did a Restore iPhone, which set the iPhone5 back to factory defaults, and I was able to restart the Setup Assistant, and following the apple support instructions, restored from my 3GS backup and synced with my iTunes account. The Restore kept my phone number intact.
I was worried that I would lose the setup of my phone number that was done in the store, but everything worked perfectly. -
got a iphone set the apple id n it was the wrong email address now i can't verifie it how do i delete and start over
Welcome to the Apple Community.
In order to change your Apple ID or password for your iCloud account on your iOS device, you need to delete the account from your iOS device first, then add it back using your updated details. (Settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit "Delete Account")
When you delete your account, all the data that is synced with iCloud will also be deleted from the device (but not from iCloud), but will be synced back to your device when you login again. -

How to wipe everything and start over from the beginning in Lightroom 4
i had photos all over the place including in Lightroom I moved them all to an external hard drive now I want to reinstall Lightroom but can't find the disc. How to wipe everything and just restart.
Creating a new catalog and reimporting to it is the easiest way to start over. However, you should be aware that by doing so you will lose any editing and organizing that you have done because unless you have exported edited versions the edits are no more than entries in the old catalog - the photos are unchanged. If you do want to retain your work, a better route would be to revise the old catalog and bring it up to date with the new folder and photo locations, as explained here: Can I simply move my main pictures folder to External Hard Drive?

I have a 10.5.8 and would need to know how to upgrade the soft ware ? . or do I need to buy a new computer.
Back up your data, click here, and read the entire page. Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC software such as Microsoft Office 2004.

How do I retain my apps after I change my apple ID? Right now I'm unable to update any of the apps with the old apple ID. I get an error message about an invalid id or Password. If I delete my appos and start over, I may lose the apps that I purchased (like the ones for $5 +....
Apps are always tied to the ID that was used to purchase them originally. Did you try entering your old password and see if that works?
If you need to sign out of your old account go to Settings>Store>Tap on your ID and sign out. Sign in with the new one.
you can also access your ID in the featured tab of the App Store. Swipe to the bottom of the screen and you will find it there as well. -
I use my MacBook Pro (Late 2009) for EVERYTHING and I have loaded so many apps, even doubles of some, I think! My computer is running really SLOW and I think it is because I don't have enough memory.
I just installed the new Adobe CS6 and that was a BIG mistake. The spinnning wheel of death doesn't stop! I wish I could load that program on my computer so I can use it "on the go", but I can't stand the spinning wheel!
I want to clean up my computer and get rid of EVERYTHING on it!! Then, re-install the factory settings to run Lion. I believe this will make the wheel stop spinning.
However, how do I make sure that all of the extra stuff that is attached to the app, ( including all the cache') is deleted too? I don't want to have to buy MacKeeper!
I am hoping the computer wizards or the apple team can give me an answer on how to clean up everything and start over. I have saved everything on my desktop mac.Thank you so much for the help! I had heard bad things about MacKeeper and I don't want to screw up my macbook any more than it already is! I will do as you suggest. Do you believe this is the best solution for the problem I described?
Should I load my Adobe Creative Suite 6 (in the cloud version) on an external hard drive?
I am so tired of this spinning wheel....should I avoid putting the CS6 on my macbook pro altogether?
I have it on my desk top mac, but wanted to be able to take the photo editing with me when I am "out and about". I know I should probably buy the ipad, which would transport much easier, but even the ipad probably doesn't have the capacity to hold all the Adobe CS6 apps, correct? -
How do I delete my existing iCloud account (across ALL my apple devices), and start over from scratch??
(cant seem to get calendars to ever sync right, on my devices, and across to my wifes'....so want to start with a "clean installation")Settings>icloud, scroll to bottom of screen and tap Delete Account (this disconnects the device from icloud but doesn't delete any data on icloud or on other devices).
If you then want to sign back in using a different ID, do so on the same screen.
I also strongly suggest that you and your wife use different icloud accounts, otherwise all your devices will have the same data on them, same emails, reminders, etc. Most likely not what you want. -
My Macbook pro was stolen 09/12, the police just returned it to me. I want to remove all the data and start over. Format the drive's etc. I have windows 7 on 1 partion and mountain lion OSX on the apple partition. How is the best way to do this?
