How do I regain control of large collection from several sources

OK, I admit that I am very particular about orgnisation.
Have read loads and watched many 'how tos' for Aperture, I really struggle with iPhoto because I really don't think in dates only.  I also have a collection of photos sent by friends, tucked in weird places on my old computer that I have been popping into a folder on my mac called collected photos. Altogether we're talking about 1300 photos.
As an ex-librarian I want to find a way to get a great library structure in Aperture that will not drive me crazy like iPhoto has.
I fear that this will be difficult in Aperture, because the meta data seem to be totally separate from the projects/file/album structure.
What I would wish to do is to create a tree structure with folders/sub-folders and sub-sub folders. IE Landscape>rural>water>sea
Can this be done?
If so, could you please explain how I can do it.  Many thanks for your time.
All the best,
Derby

Welcome to "Digital Asset Management".  :-)
I don't have a similar iPhoto>Aperture library here now for reference, but I'll try to explain what you've got and what you might do with it.
First, I think your import process brought each iPhoto Event over as a Project. Maybe with the same names as the iPhoto Events. Image 'files' can only be in one Project. The Aperture model is that you have a Master and one or more Versions. (A Master is actually the first Version of an image, too.) If you drag a Master or any of its Versions from one Project to another, they all move.
Remember that Aperture keeps one Master file and a Version is a set of 'instructions' or Adjustments to the Master, it is not a separate file. Versions of a Master remain in the same Project.
Since iPhoto had Original and Modified images and they were two separate files, when you imported your iPhoto Library, it brought over both image-files and they are each now a Master and they should have Keywords like iPhoto Original and iPhoto Edited. (Look in the Metadata tab). Offhand I've forgotten whether the conversion to Aperture also put the pairs of images in Stacks, but that's a topic for another discussion.
Aperture doesn't have "Events", so I'm not sure what you meant when you asked about finding images in both Projects and Events.
You can rename Projects by just clicking twice on their title and typing in a new one.
You can put images (Versions) into Albums. They are still in only one Project but can exist in more than one Album. Albums can't contain Projects, just Versions of images. If you right-click on a Version, you can pick "Show in Project" if you want to see where the original is. To remove a Version from an Albums, you can either "Remove from Album" or "Delete Version". The first doesn't actually delete any images, the latter puts the image into the Trash. (Note that trashing a Version doesn't delete the Master until it's the last instance.)
You can organize Projects and Albums into Folders, independent of where the Project is, meaning that you can organize your Projects by each year or by a particular vacation trip (e.g. Europe at the top level and then Countries underneath). Then, perhaps, you can have Albums of photos of cathedrals, boats, food, ad infinitum.
Keywords, Faces, and Places are orthogonal to all of the above, and you can still pull out all the photos of any of those (like you might have in iPhoto) by searching or smart folders.
Chapter 3 of the Aperture manual can answer most any question regarding the above discussion. I guess I should also caution you to _not_ empty the Trash in Aperture until you've got a good handle on Chapter 3.

I want to control my iTunes library from my mac air.  How do I setup the remote control to accomplish this?

    1. Use the Remote App on iDevices. There are third-party apps also available.
    2. Use Screen Sharing on the MBAir.
    3. More elaborate solutions using the IR Remote and IR Blasters are also possible.
    4. AirParrot and Beamer may also provide some capabilities.
    5. AirPlay requires ATV and a Mac.

  • How can I use notifications to send data from different sources to thesame chart?

    Hi,
I am using the "Continuous Measurement and Logging" template project that ships with LV 2013.
It is extremenly helpful for figuring out messaging between the acquire, graph, and log loops. (Thanks NI!)
I've run into a snag however.
I would like to modify it so that my graphing loop receives data notifications from two acquisition sources via notifiers.
I'm having trouble getting data from both sources to display on the same chart.
I've isolated the issue in the attached vi.
    Here's what happens:
    1. I create data from 2 parallel loops and send the data to a third parallel loop with notifiers.
    2. The third loop receives data from only one of the loops because one of the receiving notifiers just times out instead of receiving data.
Can someone suggest how I can fix this?
    Thanks.

Here is my modification of your VI. I put notes on the block diagram to explain the changes. It uses a queue for the data transfer to avoid loss of data. It uses a notifier to stop the loops. All local variables and Value property nodes have been eliminated.
The way the loops are stopped will likely leave some data in the queue. No more than one or two iterations of each of the data acquisition loops. If you need to guarantee that all data has been displayed (or saved in a real application), then you need to stop the acquisition loops first and read the queue until you know it is empty and both of the other loops have stopped. Then stop the display loop and release the queue and notifier.

  • How do I get iTunes to recognize songs from other sources?

how do I get iTunes to recognize songs I transferred from another computer of were downloaded from another source?

I'm not sure I understand but are you sayng these music files did not import into Itunes? If they are on your comuter and in the format iTunes excepts just drag and drop them into itunes
    These are the current formats
iTunes 11 can currently read, write and convert between MP3, AIFF, WAV, MPEG-4, AAC and Apple Lossless (.m4a)
If they are FLAC based music you will need to convert them with a 3rd party piece of software to Apple Lossless or mp3
The windows version also handles  transcoding WMA files to other formats but will not natively play them

  • How can I regain control of .bash_profile after making changes to $PATH?

    Hi,
Today, I installed Android ADB on my MBP (late 2013) and used the following guide to get it started: http://www.droidviews.com/a-comprehensive-guide-to-adb-android-debug-bridge-and- commands/ - that guide said I should make a change to ~/bash_profile in order to get the settings right. Here's what I did (copied from the link):
Open terminal window and type following: nano ~/.bash_profile
This shall open the .bash_profile file. Now enter the following line to define ADB path. export PATH=${PATH}:~/android-sdk-macosx/tools export PATH=${PATH}:~/android-sdk-macosx/platform-tools
Then, I saved and closed the terminal window.
Now, I cannot use a lot of terminal commands anymore - sudo, latex, rm, all only give me:
    -bash: latex: command not found
If I try to access ~/.bash_profile, I get the following error:
    -bash: /Users/richard/.bash_profile: Permission denied
    I tried this:
    RMBP:~ richard$ echo $PATH
    {PATH}:/Users/richard/android-sdk-macosx/platform-tools
which only shows me that I have changed the path.
Is there any way I can regain access to the .bash_profile file and control over the Terminal in general?
Any help would be highly appreciated, thanks in advance!

I solved the problem, it seems, by doing the following:
I found the defective .bash_profile file by using Omni Disk Sweeper, and deleted it right away. Someone else here in the support forum had a similar problem and solved it this way, so that's how I got the idea. The Terminal works nicely now and no other signs of trouble have come up yet.

  • How do we regain control over our Time Machine drive revisited

+I posted this question as two posts over in the+ *Intel-based iMac* +forum but I think I may have put it in the wrong place. Please forgive me if you've already read this over there. If someone tells me how to delete a post I will or perhaps a Moderator can/will do it for me.+
    +O M Oz+
Recently our 2.66 Intel Core 2 Duo started into a cycle of rebooting itself during the startup sequence. Eventually we decided to Restore the disk from the Time Machine Backup which is kept on an external 1TB La Cie drive.
After the Restore was complete; Time Machine attempted to do a backup run but we got an error message saying the drive could not be accessed to write the backup. Only the very last backup could be seen from the Star Wars screen. The icon had changed to the generic usb drive icon with a padlock.
I attempted a Full Reset of Time Machine by deleting the Preferences as described in the Troubleshooting thread. Since then we have not been able to access the Time Machine drive at all with either Time Machine or Finder.
A check of Sharing and Permissions shows that all users are listed having custom access which seems to mean you cannot read or write the drive. Disk Utility reports the drive as seeming to be okay when run in either Verify or Repair modes.
I have also attempted to run the sudo command from Terminal with no success. I'm running out of ideas. I don't want to do a low level reformat of this drive yet because it IS a backup drive and I'm not clear on the status of the restored drive.
*Next Day after sleeping on it, I posted...*
I've been thinking it over carefully and think I might have done the damage myself.
Before things went pear shaped I needed to back up the 80GB Hard Drive for a laptop but was just a little short of space on the 1TB drive. In Finder I went into the backup.backup folder and deleted the oldest backup under Finder.
From what I NOW know of the data structures of Time Machine I suspect this would have also removed the backups of whatever it is that logs the various permissions. Am I right?
If I am right can I recover from this and still save the the older backups?

Not exactly, but yes, that can damage your backups.
Try to repair them, per #A5 in the Troubleshooting Tip. If that succeeds, your backups are probably ok. If not, It's possible that +Disk Warrior+ can. It's expensive (about $100), and probably a good investment for the future, but there's no guarantee.
I have already tried that but Disk Utility reports that there is nothing wrong with the disk; clearly that is wrong. I cannot reset the permissions to let me (as the Administrator) even read the disk
If that succeeds, and the 80 GB backup from another Mac is still there, you can delete it via Time Machine. See #12 in the Frequently Asked Questions *User Tip,* also at the top of this forum.
The 80GB backup was a simple Finder copy from the extracted Hard Disk onto my Time Machine disk, just simply regaining Finder access will allow me to rescue that
Also, everything you restored to your internal HD is considered as new, so it must be backed-up again. That will, of course, take a lot of space. It's possible that Time Machine deleted a large number of your old backups to make room. If it didn't, because it couldn't do the backup, it will when it can.
I understand that is what should happen.
So . . . try the repair. If that works, see if the old backups are still there, and also see how much space is available on your TM drive. If there's not enough room for a new full backup of your internal HD, plus 20% for workspace, TM will have to delete some old backups. If the disk isn't well over twice the size of the data it's backing-up, your best bet may be to erase the drive and let Time Machine start fresh.
I am coming to that conclusion. The drive is plenty big enough, it's a Terabyte backing up a 300GB disk. Activity Monitor and Finder using +Get Info+ both tell me the drive has 931.39GB available with about 907GB used, we just cannot access any of the data this usage represents due to the locked permissions.
Since I last posted I have also tried resetting PRAM and running sudo from Terminal as per #C5 in the Troubleshooting Tip to reset the permissions to no avail.
The Restore has not been a success so I am probably going to have to wipe the whole computer and rebuild the system, something I am understandably unwilling to do.
I asked here because the problem seems to be related to a recent Time Machine run and the drive I used. Am I asking my question in the correct forum?
Thanks for your input so far.

  • How to automate revision control of Crystal Reports from SAP B1?

I am reviewing our revision controls and am trying to figure out a good way to maintain a history of the SAP B1 Crystal Reports.  Is there a way to automatically export the Crystal Reports to an external file?  I know that developers can save the file by hand when they do changes, but that seems rather error prone.  I am looking for a way to automate the export so that I can then save it to our version control system.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to automatically export the Crystal Reports?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Try with this query to export crystal report:

  • How to view and control a VI remotely from a web browser

    Hello,
I want to see and control a vi using a web browser.
I followed the steps recommended in help and I can see and control the front panel of my vi.
    So far everything is OK.
    First problem:
A button activates a simple window display a message (One Dialog button). The dialog box opens on the server computer but can not be seen in brouser and therefore can not be closed remotely.
    The second problem:
Another button activates another window (vi) loaded dynamically. The VI is reentrant and is open with option 0xC0 ("Enable simultaneous calls on reentrant VIs" and "Prepare to call and forget"). By activating the button, it opens multiple instances of the VI properly and runs on the server computer, but their are not visible to the client computer.
I created, after the same algorithm, corresponding HTML file for the dynamically loaded VI and it is saved in the same place with the main program HTML file.
What to do as the client computer can operate main VI and adjacent windows from the browser?
    Thanks,
    Cristian

Another option would be to use something like WebSockets and have your LabVIEW application communicate with a web-page you've designed/developed with Javascript. Then you can use things like floating windows/dialogues with jQuery. It's a lot of work though as you'll need to define your websockets API for talking to your application and then develop the web-page in HTML/CSS/JavaScript for your user interface.
Unfortunately, even browsers are moving away from pop-up windows (chrome and various addons tend to block popups and they don't play nice with mobile devices). You can have semi-dialogue-like pop-ups though with modal dialogues: https://jqueryui.com/dialog/#modal-message Note though that they are contained within the browser window.
My advice would be to think about creating a custom UI in LabVIEW that works with a single pane / panel (you can use tab controls!) and use that with remote front panels. Then decide if you want to invest the time/effort in a WebSockets/Web Services approach with your own browser-based UI. Note as well that remote front panels don't work in Chrome properly any more.

  • How do I download my entire iTunes collection from iCloud to my iPod Touch 5th Generation?

I just bought a 64 GBiPod Touch 5th Generation and have about 35GB of music on my iCloud. I want to download all 35GB to my new iPod. What is the fastest, easyist way to do that?

Plug your iPod into your computer, and pull up iTunes.  When it loads, you should see your library with all of your songs on there.  If you look at the individual album covers, you should see little clouds in the top right-hand corner.  Click on that, and it will download.  Hope this info helped!

  • How to create an internal table with fields from different sources

    Hi.
I need to create an internal table where some of the fields are from a database table, and the other fields are user specified. How do i do that?
    Example:
DB table ZTAB with fields ZTAB-FIELD1, ZTAB-FIELD2.
I want to create an internal table ITAB with the fields ZTAB-FIELD1, ZTAB-FIELD2 from ZTAB. In addition, I also want to have one more field RECORD_NO, which is not from ZTAB. How do I do it? Could I do something like below?
    DATA BEGIN OF ITAB.
            INCLUDE STRUCTURE ZTAB.
    DATA RECORD_NO TYPE I.
    DATA END OF UPLINE.
Or, are there more efficient way of doing it? Thanks.

    hi KIan,
    go:
    general type
    TYPE : BEGIN OF ty_itab,
               field1 TYPE ztab-field1,
               field2 TYPE ztab-field2,
    *your own fields here:
               field TYPE i,
               field(30) TYPE c,
               END OF ty_itab.
    work area
    DATA : gw_itab TYPE ty_itab.

    DATA : gt_itab TYPE TABLE OF ty_itab.

  • Smart Collection from several external HDs

The ability to select from more than one external disk when creating collections would be most welcome.

You may want to add a feature request for this option, maybe something as the possibility to add another disk criteria with a plus sign as it is already in the find criteria.
You can however create a smart collection for one disk, fill in the desired find criteria and after that action create an other new smart collection and choose another device using the browse option. (the first time the disk starts indexing, depending on the amount of content this can take a while). Using new smart collection does not change the find criteria so you only have to save it.
Then you can drag the content of each smart collection to 1 new simple collection. Hope this is a workaround that is useful for you :-)

  • How to block movement type 261 and 262 from several storage locations

    Dear Expert,
Can we block the  261 and 262 movement type from several storage locations? These storage locations are not affected by the MRP run, where for the materials that have been moved to these storage locations their existance are not count. These storage locations could not be used for confirmation production order, therefore i want to block  261 and 262 movement type from these storage locations.
    Thanks
    Pauline

    Dear Pauline,
if my understanding is correct abt ur query,
    1) you want in confirmation screen, Consumption should happen only from one storage location
    2) Rest all storage locations should not be allowed
    3) Maintain Storage location in BOM component view, in mass you can maintain in CEWB
    4) Now GO with SHD0, Make storage location field as Out put only, for CO11N Transaction
Plz refer this link for SHD0 Demo
