How do I reinstall Airport Utility?

I am having trouble with my airport connection on just my Macbook (all other Mac devices fine). It seems to drop the IP address it has been assigned for no apparent reason, and then self assigns an address that doesn't work.
I noticed that the size of my Airport Utilty application 5.5.2 is 2 MB smaller than on my MacBookPro (34.6MB vs 36.6MB) and wondered if I have a corrupted file somehow?
Therefore is there any way that I can overwrite and re-install the latest software version?

Apologies for not thinking to mention this before, but AirPort Utility has nothing at all to do with your MacBook's Wi-Fi connection. It's only use is to configure an Apple AirPort base station.
It might help to reset the connection settings on your Mac using these steps one at a time until the problem is resolved, recognizing that, depending on your problem, not all of these steps will make sense:
1) Use the AirPort menu bar item to turn AirPort off, then on again.
2) Try to select your Wi-Fi network from the AirPort menu.
3) In the Network panel of System Preferences delete the AirPort item from the left column, then add it back.
4) In the same panel as (3), define a new location and see if you can make that work.
5) In the same panel, select the AirPort connection item, click the "Advanced" button, select the "TCP/IP" tab, then click "Renew DHCP Lease".
6) In the folder /Library/Preferences ( not <yourhomefolder>/Library/Preferences), move the folder SystemConfiguration onto the Desktop, then restart your computer. See if you can now make your AirPort connection work.
These steps may not help, but they'll only take a couple of minutes to try. Before you try these, if you have any special network settings on your Mac for things like DSL credentials, note all your network settings, because the latter steps will destroy them. If you got all the way to the last step, if things don't work any worse than before, you can trash the saved SystemConfiguration folder.

  • How can I reinstall airport setup assistant & airport admin utility

It's a long story but I accidentally deleted my support software for my Airport Express (the airport setup assistant and airport admin utility).
I tried downloading the AirPort 4.1 update, but I can't install it because I am told there is a newer version already installed on my computer.
I have no idea how to get the airport express software back, aside from re-installing my OS, which I would rather not do.
    G4 12"   Mac OS X (10.4)

"There must be something somehwhere on the system that makes the computer think that the original software is still there."
    Hi ChezFerranti!
Yes, an installation receipt. Deleting receipts is not recommended.
It's probably best to download and install the 10.4.9 Combo Update, and that should re-insert the two missing utilities into your OS, since it wouldn't depend on seeing a receipt.
The pertinent receipt is "AirPortConfigApps.pkg" in HDD>Library>Receipts. That was the installation of the AirPort 4.2 software Update in July of 2005. It is no longer a separate item at Downloads, except for someone with a Panther OS (10.3). This means that it was folded into a later OS X Tiger Software Update, which is why the 10.4.9 Combo Update should be able to replace those utilities for you. The problem with simply deleting the receipt is that when you install a new version, then you'd get duplicate files of everything else that was part of that July 2005 AirPort 4.2 Update.
"aside from re-installing my OS, which I would rather not do"
There should be no need to do that. The 10.4.9 Combo Update should do essentially the same thing for you, W/O duplicating anything! Best of luck:)

  • How do I get airport utility to recognise my wdstorage

I have a 1TB my book (WD storage) external hard drive - my iMac can see it and access it on the network but I can't figure out how to get it picked up by airport utility to allow me to set up time capsule back up.

Actually a apple time capsule is a broadband, DSL or Cable, wireless router with a built in hard drive and at least the router and wifi ap sections are configured by the apple airport utility. I don't own one but here is a link to the product.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD033LL/A/time-capsule-3tb
And a image of the back of it.
    MartinR wrote:
Since you are asking about a WD external hard drive, I think you meant to ask about Time Machine, not Time Capsule.   Time Machine is backup software that will work with many kinds of drives.  Time Capsule is an Apple hardware product (it's basically an Airport Extreme with an embedded hard drive).
When you first connected to the WD drive to your Mac (regardless of how connected), you should have been prompted about whether or not you wanted to use the WD drive for Time Machine.  If you didn't get such a message (or if you said NO), open the Time Machine application (in your Applications folder) and after it opens, click Set Up Time Machine.
If you have multiple Macs on your network, and you want to use the WD drive with more than one Mac, ethernet connection is preferable.

  • HT1218 How do I get Airport Utility (6.3.2) to see my Apple Extreme ("g"; firmware 5.7)?

Airport Utility (6.3.2) running OS10 (10.9.2) does not support my Apple Extreme ("g"; firmware 5.7) therefore cannot update firmware.  How do I fix it?

You might want to let Apple know.

Not that it is relevent here, but Windows cannot be used to configure the newer AirPort and Time Capsule.

  • How do I get  Airport Utility to find my TC that is MIA for wireless?

I have an Air and had wireless no problem for a month via TC. Last night TC started blinking amber and TC is not found by Airport Utility for me to troubleshoot. I've done all the disconnecting and connecting to no avail. Called ISP, which is working via ethernet connection to Windows desktop, and they say router is not connected to modem. But it was for a month and nothing was changed. The only thing I did last night was to check and make sure TC was being used as my default backup (after reading the Guide), so could I have done something then?

    Terri,
I know you may have tried some of these before, but note the exact steps below...
*_Time Capsule Has Disappeared From Airport Utility / Amber Light_*
*Reboot ISPs’ Modem & Time Capsule*
If you are using the Time Capsule as your only router then power down your ISPs modem.
Unplug the TC from the wall outlet.
    Wait 10-15 seconds.
Next turn your modem back on first. Let it initialize and acquire an IP address (about 30-60 seconds).
    Re-plug in the TC again.
After it has restarted (30-60 seconds), does it show up in Airport Utilities?
If not try "Rescan" from the File Menu.
If the above doesn't work, then…
    *Cycle Airport Preferences*
    Open Network Preferences.
Click “Turn Airport Off”, wait 10 seconds.
Now click “Turn Airport On”. Close Prefs.
Does it now show up in Airport Utilities?.
If not go to the “File” menu and select “Rescan”.
    Does it appears now?.
If not, unplug the TC, wait 10 seconds, and plug it back in.
Does the TC show up now in Airport Utility?
If the above doesn't work, then…
    *Hard Reset*
Take a look at this KB article. It will explain how to reset the TC:
Make sure you hold in the reset button for at least a good 10 seconds.
Then you should be able to see it. Now follow this KB article to set it up again:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1178
Let us know if this helps resolve your connection issue.
    Cheers!

  • I have an old Airport Express. How do I get Airport Utility to recognise it?

I have an OLd style Airport Express that I was using with my 2007 iMac and Tiger. Recent upgrade to Mountain Lion.
How do I get the Airport Utility to recognise it so I can set extra stuff?
    AndrewH66

Here are the AirPort Utility downloads:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/#airport
Bottom line: I don't believe it's possible to use your old AirPort Express with Mountain Lion.  The current AirPort Utility is 6.3.1.
I'm assuming you have this one (from around 2004):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP76
If instead you have this one (from arount 2008):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP1
... then AirPort Utility may well support your device.

  • How do I download AirPort Utility 1.3.3

I have and iPad running iOS 6.1.3 and I just bought an AirPort Express.
I went to the support page and it has a link to the 1.3.3 version, but clicking
on the link takes me to the ITunes store which has 1.3.4.  How do I get
    1.3.3?

It won't run because I have iOS 6.1.3 on my iPad.
I have iOS 6.1.3 on my iPad because Apple stopped supporting
sync and backup with my computer with iOS 7 so upgrading
    to iOS 7 is a non-starter.
AirPort 1.3.3 is the version supported on iOS 6.
Apple's support page has a link to AirPort 1.3.3 at
AirPort Utility software and firmware downloads - Apple Support
but it doesn't do what it says, it only points to 1.3.4.
So once again the subject question....

  • Airport Utility 6.1 is incompatible with older Airport Express. Apple suggests to use Airport Utility 5.6 but it isn't compatible with Lion. How can I use Airport Utility?

I have an Airport Express 802.11b/g, model nº A1084. Mac OS X 10.7.4. When I run Airport Utility it says that the version (6.1) isn't compatible with the base station and suggests to use the version 5.6. I try to download and install it but a message says that the version of Mac OS is not compatible with this version of Airport Utility. Apple is trying to make me crazy?

Thank you Bob for the correct link. To be honest I have no idea how you found that. The Airport 6.1 utility gives the message that 5.6 is needed, and the link unhelpfully just goes to the US support home (I am UK for a start…) - and endless navigating eventually gets you to 'other Airport Utility Software' - and there is, the incorrect version for Lion…
I have managed to setup the Express using the software link you provided :-)
iteachcoffee - workaround - get someone with Lion on a laptop, or better, Pre-Lion so you don't have to download the special software  (like the wonderful Snow Leopard for example) and set up your Airport with that.
The Apple answer I'm sure is simply: Get a newer Airport! ;-) (annoying I know, my old one works perfectly!)

  • How can I reinstall Airport software?

    Hello,
I am trying te reinstall Airport as nothing worked anymore and I had to reinstall Leopard. After inserting the Airport cd-rom the message comes that all the files are up-to date and that I can't reinstall. How can I override this message? Pressing the C-button does not not work. Additional problem: all the Airport files under Utilities are gone. Thanks for your help, Peter

Peter, Welcome to the discussion area!
When you reinstalled Leopard you also reinstalled all the latest AirPort software. You will find it in the /Applications/Utilities directory.

  • How Can I Reinstall Disk Utility?

    Hi,
I been having problems opening Disk Utility to format an USB drive since december 2009, every time I tried it freezes like 1 minute an never opened. Then I supposed it was a problem with my hard disk maybe corrupted data.
Today I tried to use the Disk Utility using Mac OS Install DVD, holding C key. After that, I put to verify my MacBook hard disk, and after that told me that I need to repair. So I've tried to repair, but Disk Utility could not do it, and it stops booting my hard drive.
I needed to use a full restore of a Time Machine backup, but now I can't open the disk utility and give me the following message:
    - You can't open the application "Disk Utility.app"; because it is not supported on this architecture.
*So how can I reinstall the Disk Utility from my Mac OS Install DVD?*
    Thanks,

Use Pacifist to extract it from your Leopard DVD.

  • How do I access Airport Utility 5.6?

I can no longer see remote speakers on iTunes so can not play music through airplay - via airport express.  I went to Airport Utility and got a message that said this version of Airport Utility doesn't support this base station.  Use Airport Utility 5.6 to configure or manage this base station. My computer is a MacBook Pro running 10.7.3.

I have tried downloading airport utility 5.6, but everytime I try the installation fails. I'm running OSX 10.7.5

  • How do I get Airport Utility to recognise my TimeCapsule when I first connect it?

I have followed the instructions in the setup guide and on the apple website but still my Time Capsule just flashes amber.  When I press 'rescan' in Airport Utility, it says it is unable to locate any wireless devices.
I have connected my ethernet cable from my wireless modem/router to my time capsule and plugged the time capsule in to the power.  Before connecting it to the time capsule, the ethernet cable connected my wireless modem/router to my iMac.  Now there is nothing connecting my iMac to my modem/router.
I am thinking maybe there is something not set up correctly with the Airport and wireless settings on my iMac but I don't know what they would be.  When I got it, I just plugged my modem into the back with the ethernet cable and it worked.  I also have a laptop that I connect wirelessly to the modem.
I have AppleCare for my iMac but I don't think it covers extra hardware like the Time Capsule.  I bought the Time Capsule in August last year from JbHifi so I don't know if I can take it to an Apple store and get them to help me.  Since August last year I have not been able to make it work or connect to my iMac.
    Please help!!!

run another ethernet cable from one of the TC's LAN port's () to your iMac. that should enable airport utility to see the device.
besides, you should really make your initial time machine backup using a hardwired connection. subsequent backups are incremental and can be done over wifi.

  • How do i get airport utility to recognize airport express?

Airport express does not show up on my list of devices when I start up Airport Utility.  I'd love to use express with my stereo, but I cannot.

If that AirPort Express hasn't been configured, there are two ways to get AirPort Utility to "see" it:  (1) Connect an Ethernet cable between the Express and your Mac.  This works best if you don't need the Ethernet of the Express to connect to another router.  (2) Use the AirPort/WiFi menu bar item to look for a network named in the form "Apple Network xxxxxx".  That's the temporary network that the Express is creating.  If you select that network, AirPort Utility should list the Express.  Once you've configured the Express and restarted it, you'll have to reselect the appropriate wireless network.
