How do I reinstall and restore my iMac?

I am currently backing up the contents using disk utility of my friends iMac (I lied in the question, sorry) and I want to be sure Im doing this right. My goal is to reinstall the OS, and then restore it to the backup using the disk image. Im concerned that this may not work since the computer has multiple users, will the restore retain the user accounts and their contents?

Did you purchase them from the Mac App Store? If so you should be able to sign into your App Store account and redownload them.

Jonahood if you bought a new Mac without an optical drive then you can copy the installation files onto a USB drive on a computer which does have an optical drive. You can then install on your new iMac from the USB drive.

The Seagate backup drive I bought doesn't support 10.5.8
The only reason I can see for that is it's formatted NTFS, which would likely be Read Only in 10.5.x, if you can reformat it MacOS extended, which would erase everything on it now, then that should work for your purposes.

Can I save them and, if so, when I need to restore this, how do I do that? How do I reconnect tags, categories, keywords, etc. with photos that I re-import after a hard drive crash?

I'm running Windows 7 if it matters, on a MBPn 17 2010 core-i7 and my daughter will soon be running on a MBP 13 2011 core-i7.
I'm currently using SuperDuper! and Time Machine for the Mac side, and am backing up using Disk Utility capturing the entire Win7 partition but have no confidence that it will work if I restore it.

While lack of mention of Apple Boot Camp in System Backup may not be an issue, I have never used it. Paragon also has volume snapshot and other Mac OS tools - but then they are not all offered in a Suite to provide NTFS, HFS, Mac repair, etc.

Lion will have to modify the partition tables to add its own Windows 7-ish system recovery partition, so I would definitely get a good backup strategy in place - and tested - ahead of time. Contrary to the "shouldn't have any impact" I always see an impact, and also re-initialize drives when a new OS comes out (though maybe wait for the .2 release).

I'd like to know how could I save an entire screen or part of it and restore it later.
I have an application using full-screen mode and I draw every component that I need. So, there are times when I draw a component just to show a message and after I need the screen as it was before I draw the message.
I'm not working with Swing components. It's not a "typical" application, because every component that is showed I really draw it. So I don't have events and repaint is controlled by my application.
That's why I need to save the Screen before show a dialog box, for example, and then restore the screen, making the box disappear.

In theory, I really could use normal components, but in practice, I will get a better final result, even if it will cost some extra work.
I've been reading about BufferedImage, VolatileImage and so on, but I didn't concatenated the ideas yet, or didn't read so much as necessary.

I am sorry to hear about your lost notes...I understand how you might feel... I did recover mine yesterday..I did two step confirmation password on Gmail then created a "special" password under the mail settings on Gmail that I typed on the iphone Gmail slot for the password and my account was cleared and with that came the notes...however i did check the notes on gmail website earlier than doing this steps and none were there..not a clue why they show up after the new password was set in... mysteries unsolved...
