How do I reinstall iWeb files?

I have had to reformat and rebuild my harddisk recently (MacBook Pro, OS 10.5.8).  Now I cannot figure out how to get iWeb to recognize the files for my old website.   Which are the critical files and where do they go?  I have located a file called "Domain" in my backed-up files, but there must be more critical files that are not yet in the right plce because iWeb won't open my site yet.  It insits on creating a new one.  Any suggestions?

Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
launch iWeb and try again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
launch iWeb and try again.

How do I reinstall iWeb 3.0.3?  I inadvertently opened an html file of my website and tried to open it with iWeb '09. I get a message saying “Can’t open file” etc., etc. I’ve tried reinstalling the updated version. Iweb will not open.

Delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder. Then launch iWeb and see if it opens.
What happened was trying to open the html file reset the file path that iWeb saves in its preference file to tell it where to go when you launch iWeb.  Deleting the pref file and launching iWeb creates a new file and iWeb looks in your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder for the Domain.sites2 file it uses to create your site.

You can't. The only way to get songs in the Music app is to sync from a computer or to download from iTunes.

  • Application files are corrupted. How do I reinstall application files?

I own the macbook Pro. My application files are corrupted. How do I reinstall them?

    "Any more ideas?"
The point of my reply was for you to apply the 10.3.9 Combo Update over your installation. Repairing Permissions is always a good idea before and after any update or upgrade. Did you try this and still having Java problems/errors?
This will not harm anything to apply the Combo update over your OS.
You did not post which version of 10.3 you are using but you may wish to check to see if this Apple Knowledge Base article applies to your situation:

  • How can i transfer iweb files from one computer to another?

    Hi,
Recently my harddrive crashed and i had to rebuild my computer. I retreived most of my files but i cannot find where my iweb files are located. Does anyone know where iweb saves files or how to retreive my domain files from the web (if at all possible)?
    Thanks

Could there be other location for the iWeb files?
Unless you moved the Domain file, that's its default location. Make sure you're looking in the Library folder in your Home folder rather than Macintosh HD. See also THIS recent post.

  • How do you reinstall backup files????

I have a Palm Tungsten E2 and have the application Diet Assistant on it. I had input all of the foods that I eat on a regular basis and had logged all my info for a number of days. I connected it to my laptop to load all the info to the programs application on my computer. Instead it reinstalled the program and deleted all my information I had put in it over the last week.... I found a backup file (and am hoping it is the one I need) how do you install them back onto the handheld so that I don't have to re enter all the information.... HELP!!! PLEASE!!!
    Post relates to: Tungsten E2

can you please elaborate more on how you got the backup file?
usually when you say backup file in the palm, it is the backup folder that contains all the 3rd party applications installed to the palm whether it's bundled or separately installed.

  • How do I reinstall iWeb 08?

Hi, is there any way to reinstall iWeb 08 or even iLife without completely reinstalling 10.5? Is it available on the Apple site somewhere? I've looked and looked but haven't had much luck. I tried restoring iWeb with Time Machine but got an error message.

Did you have iWeb 08 on your computer before?
Are you sure that the Leopard disk you are referring to is just Leopard?
If you purchased Leopard separately (i.e. you used to have Tiger on this machine), the disk would be just Leopard.
If the computer came with Leopard and iLife 08 installed, you should have a system restore disk or some such that would include iLife 08 (it might include Leopard, too). Usually you can pick and choose from the applications on the system restore disk that you want to reinstall. I don't have Leopard, so I can't give you specific details.

P.S. Make sure you backup any domain.sites or domain.sites2 files on your computer before you reinstall iWeb!

  • How do I take iweb files online and fix it on a new iweb software

my computer crashed and had to get a new harddrive and lost everything. I'm trying to fix my website with the new iweb application that I had to reinstall. Is that possible? If not, how can I edit my website?

The online files cannot be opened in iWeb — only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb. You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.
Paragraph 2.3 of this FAQ page gives some tips on how to use published files, graphics, photos, etc., to help rebuild the site from scratch:

  • How do I move iWeb files from my Mac Mini to my Macbook Air?

Just bought a new Macbook Air and trying to work on websites I created on Mac Mini - cant seem to figure out how to import them into my Macbook Air

Quit iWeb, go to Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb and try double clicking the domain file.
Also highlight it and click the get info button.
In the info window under Sharing & Permissions, make sure you have Read & Write Privileges.

  • How to send a iweb file or project via email?

I've done a web site using iweb. My client requested it so he can update and change it himself using iweb. How can I send it to him via email? I tried sending the "domain" file but it's not supported as an attachment. Is there a solution, or the only way is to copy it on a cd and mail it ?

Control-click that item in the Finder, compress or archive it, and attach the zip.

  • How do I import iWeb files from a different mac?

I have a black macbook from 2009.  The screen is shot.  That's the laptop I used to create my website.  Well, now I have a spanking new 27" iMac and I want to use that to work on my website.  I backed up the files to an external harddrive.  That works fine.  But when I open iWeb, I can't figure out how to get those files imported into iWeb so I can work on them and publish them.  Help!

If you used timemachine to restore from your macbook to your iMac you should be able to find your iWeb Domain file in your library/application support/iWeb folder.
the Library is hidden now in Lion.
Click on the desktop, then use the GO menu then, hold the "option" key on the keyboard.

  • How do i open iweb files on a different computer than what I created them on? - Domain file can't be opened

I started a web page in the lab at school and want to open the file here on my computer. I saved the application support/iweb/domain file and have tried to replace the old one with it, but that doesnt work. I looked up where you can delete the last string in the com.apple.iweb.plist file but that would not work either. I've got the site published to a folder and the domain file saved and with me but thats all

Put the copied domain file somewhere, or rename it and put it in the Application Support/iWeb folder, and double-click it.  That should open it.

  • Can someone tell me how to move an iweb file from one mac to another?

I was told by a mac genius a year ago but I can't remember how it was done.

On one computer, choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu, provide ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/ as the path, and move the Domain item inside to the corresponding location on the other computer.

  • I have a I phone 4. I recently changed carriers to straight talk it was working fine but I deleted the vpn file on accident. Now I can't get cellular data. Does anyone know how I can reinstall that file or download it somewhere?

I own a I phone 4. I recently changed my service from AT&T to Straight Talk. It was working fine but then I deleted the vpn file on accident. Now when I try to get on line I get a message that I am not signed up with a cellular data network. Does anyone know how I can retrieve or download the vpn file?

I have taken it back to the Apple store genius bar, but they say they don't see anything wrong. Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. But over time, some of my contacts have started showing up, although i am still missing over 800 of them.

  • How do I reinstall application files?

What do I do to reinstall my application files? They are corrupted.

    Bishopstew,
delete the ones which are currently corrupted, and then reïnstall them in the same way as they’d been installed originally.
