How do i reinstall my cd/dvd drive

How do I reinstall my cd/dvd Drive? I have a HP G62 laptop.

At this point you have to assume it is either a bad drive or a bad connection for the drive on the motherboard. Among the problems with that series of laptops is bad motherboards and a common symptom is optical drives that will not be detected. But it could also be a dead drive. I assume you have tried to boot from the drive and it will not. The only way to truly diagnose the issue is to try the drive in another known good laptop or with a mini-ide to usb adapter (not too common).

I just tried it between a Power Mac G5 and a PowerBook G3 (Pismo) and it worked. The G5 was Mac in Firewire Target Disk Mode. I started the G5 with the T with no DVD in the drive. I started up the G3, and the G5's hard drive appeared on the G3's desktop. I pushed the eject key (on the G5 keyboard) and the SuperDrive opened. I put in a DVD (the Tiger installation disk) and closed the SuperDrive. The DVD appeared on the G3's desktop. I restarted the G3 with the Option key held down, and the DVD in the G5 appeared as a valid startup choice."

  • Satellite A45-S250 : How to use Recovery CD if DVD Drive is not working

    Hi all ,
    First , appologize for my english , i'm a french guy :)
So my problem is that i would like to re-install everything on a A45-S250 by using the recovery CD.
But the main problem is that the internal DVD drive is not running anymore.
I've try by plugging an external DVD drive, but the laptop don't want to boot on it.
I've seen that it can boot through a floppy drive, lan, or SD card. But with theses possibilities , how to be able to reinstall everything include in the recovery CD ?
I may have a usb floppy drive, so i'll be able to boot on a disk boot. but then how to start the recovery CD procedure ?
I'll prefer to use the recovery CD as a WinXP home standart, cause i know that the OEM serial won't work to a Original version of WinXP ...
    Thanks for your help !
    Kubs

    Hi
If you want to use the Recovery CD then you would need a bootable CD/DVD drive.
Fact is that you would be not able to boot from a USB CD/DVD drive or its not possible to copy the whole stuff on the SD card and then to boot
You need an internal CD/DVD drive or external CD/DVD drive which could be connected to the PCMCIA port
For me only these two possibilities could work!

  • Reinstall firmware on dvd drive

is it possible to reinstall the firmware on the dvd drive so that i can reset the settings?

I repaired the Time Machine drive using disk utility as it showed errors when i verified it. That went fine but when I tried again to boot from it the same thing happened... It shows the Time Machine drive when holding option at startup but when i click it, it just gives the grey screen with the question mark folder... Whats going on?
Anyway, I booted from my external bootable drive (different to his external time machine drive) and loaded the app store. I logged in with his details but when I searched for Lion, it didn't say anything about already being purchased... it just showed the price. I looked in the purchased tab and it had nothing in there...
How can I download Lion without paying for it again? It was paid for when the computer was bought so we should not be charged again (IMO)...

  • How do you install MACOSX without DVD drive?

    hey guys,
I have a Powerbook, the DVD drive does not work anymore. I would like to format my Powerbook. I remember hearing that you can install MAC OSX via network?
The Powerbook is my only MAC computer, I have another computer which is a PC running on Windows XP. Is there anyway I can put my original MAC OSX bootup disk on the PC and have it read by the Powerbook via ethernet network?
If there is a more simpler solution, please advise.
PS. I'm aware I can use an external firewire DVD drive, but I do not have access to any at this point, and unfortunately can't spend money on one. I'm broke from school tuition, books and the necessities of life.
Thanks again for your help and support.
    Teddy

You can only install OS X over a server running OS X Server. If you don't have access to an Apple server then you cannot install over a network.
If you have access to another Mac with a good DVD drive it is possible to use Target Disk Mode to do what you want.

  • How to install Leopard without working DVD-drive?

I have a MacBook Pro 3,1 (A1226) without a working DVD-drive and I would like to replace the existing 80Gb drive with a 320Gb drive. The hardware is no problem, I did that a few times already, but how to get the OS working?
I have an TimeMachine backup on a USB-disk of the 10.5.8 (9L31a) installed system. I do not wish to upgrade because there is some old licensed software on it that does not work with a newer OS.
I also have another MacBook Pro (with 10.7.5) I could hook up with an Ethernet-cable. Theoretically even with a Firewire cable I do not have right now. But when I buy extra things I should perhaps better get an external hard disk enclosure for the 320Gb?
    Please advice.

Am gonna solve it in another way. I will just get a so-called "9.5 mm PATA Optical Bay SATA Hard Drive Enclosure" and put the 320Gb drive in that one. Sorry to have distracted you.

  • How does eject work with 2 DVd drives fitted?

I have a Mirror Door Powermac G4 and want to run two DVD drives. What worries me is how I'll eject them since I use the eject keyboard button. When I press eject will both drives eject simultaneously?
Anyone got experience of running two optical drives at once in a Powermac?

On some Macs, you can press Option-Eject to open or close the tray of an optional second optical drive.

  • How can I determine what internal DVD drives are compatible w/ my G5?

I'd like to put a new DVD drive in my G5. It's one of the original 1.8 dual machines, with some extra RAM. I'm having trouble with the drive these days, and I'd like to figure out what drives are compatible. Thoughts?

I cannot speak for all drives but today I installed a Pioneer 710 ( same drive as 111 ) in place of the original Pioneer 106.
I have only tested it with Toast to burn a DVD-R and playing a CD and all is well.

  • How do I fix my early 2008 mac pro boot hard disk. Lost everything when it crashed hard, can not reinstal via cd/dvd drive... are there any fix get it boot from dvd drive?

I have an early 2008 MAC PRO Quad Core 3.0ghz processor. 8 Gig of rams, with a 1 Gig memory  Radeon 5770 HD Graphic Card running the latest Version of Snow Leopard OS.  Last week lighting struck the house take out all of my hard drives (4) thank god the surge protector mitigated the mother board from damaged, use the Parted Magic to check out the motherboard and it intact with no damage. I can boot with the Parted-magic and be able surf and post this question to this forums. I replaced a newly formatted hard  drive and trying to installed OS X Mountain Lions to the new drive, but unable to have it boot in my MAC PRO DVD, I get the usual chimes during the booting processed but the screen remain blackout, but able to boot with Parted-Magic to surf the web and access Apple sites/forums.
I am not well verse in using the Parted_Magic to repair or get my-mac to boot normally so I can reinstall OS X. Any help would appreciated.
    Thank you

Go to System Profile and look, does it say "MacPro3,1"?
    That is 2008.
FBDIMM would be 800MHz. Did you use older slower 667MHz in yours?
You can but take a hit in performance.
    Sounds like MacPro1,1.
Mac Pro (3.0GHz quad core (dual CPUs) 8GB 667 RAM)
In 2007 March an 8-core 3GHz did come out 2,1.
    So just to be clear.

It was all working fine a couple of days ago. At the time it randomly shut down I was trying to use Boot Camp to create a Windows 7 area,
Whenever you want to install Windows, remove all the drives other than the one Windows goes to. And if you use a dedicated drive YOU DO NOT NEED Boot Camp Assist, unless you use XP, which really is limited and crippled (one processor, 1.9GB RAM support).
And when it freezes, your only choice is to nuke (reformat) and restore or get out that backup CLONE you made before (ie, Step #1 in the Boot Camp Guide).
Sure that whole NTFS / MBR / GUID could be an issue, but you should just have a blank drive or clone.
No don't bother Apple, they seem to not have a good sense about Windows on Mac Pro anyway.
Other than zap pram from cold boot / tried booting with NO drives inside and just 10.6. DVD - should be fine.
You should be fine iwth Windows 7 DVD and one drive, or even XP.
Make sure you take your time and reconnect cards etc properly and any cables.
Booting from OS X DVDs may not work if there is a drive with a totally shot directory or partition table. Put them in FW case and turn on AFTER OS X is booted.

  • How can I reset the cd/dvd drive

I was cleaning up my old computer for my grandson. Tried to put System 7 disc in drive, made noise. trying to reset the cd drive so the computer will recognize it. Get Code 10 error

    Hi,
First, try the automated fixit from Microsoft on the link below.
    Windows 7
    Vista
Check if the drive is now working.
If it still doesn't work, click the Start Menu, open All Programs, open Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  In to the prompt type the following command and hit enter.
sfc /scannow                 ( note that there is a space between sfc and the / )
Let the process complete, then type exit and hit enter.
Next, click the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Device Manager.  Next click to open DVD/CD-ROM Drives.  Right click the drive and select uninstall.  Do not delete drivers if asked.  When the device has uninstalled click on the 'Scan for Hardware Changes' icon ( usually just below Help on the toolbar ).  Let windows reinstall the drive and see if it now works.

  • How do I get my cd/dvd drive to be detected by Windows?

Hi, I've been trying to repair a family members laptop which is having problems with the dvd/cd - rom drive. I have gone through many a forum looking for a solution to this problem including HP's support and drivers but to no avail. I have used MS Fixit and other suggestions as well. I have even disconnected it physically and put it back in to see if it will detect it then. I have done the F10 and checked System Configuration and it is still trying to boot the CD Drive so I know it's not that it's burned out and needs replacing plus the fact it spins up and the green LED shows that it is receiving power and is connected. I've seen other people in the forums with this problem and the solutions that are given are all ones that I've tried. I'm currently installing the BOIS 3.4 version but it's my last option that I know of to solve it and it's for Vista because the Support and Drivers section for my laptop didn't have Windows 7 operating system to choose from, which they state is because there is no issue with it... Anyways I would appreciate any help. It would be a shame to have to trash a drive because according to the Support and Drivers site the problem doesn't exist.

At this point you have to assume it is either a bad drive or a bad connection for the drive on the motherboard. Among the problems with that series of laptops is bad motherboards and a common symptom is optical drives that will not be detected. But it could also be a dead drive. • How to remove Region-lock on DVD drive?

    HI,
My laptop is equipped with pioneer dvr-k16a. I had watched some DVD borrowed from my friend who required region 1 to play, so I switched it to region 1 and now I can't switch it back anymore. Apparently my DVD-RW being region-locked which I know only after it happens.
Is there anybody can help me up?

If there are no more USER changes allowed, than your drive is permanent locked into the last used Region (Region 1 is America).
There MUST have been a message on your screen asking for your permission to change into a different Region when you switched it to a Region 1.
Like the previous post, I would not flash the drive into a region-free neither, as it is a risky procedure which voids warranty and quality of your drive. This procedure can't be declared as ilegal, as someone easily could buy several Multi-bay drives for each region to watch his Films on.
You can still watch different region movies on a region-locked drive with specific region-free software solutions. Google them yourself as I don't want this reply to disappear again.

  • How do I boot from CD/DVD drive

    Hi
No one can seem to solve this problem!
My iBook wont allow me to boot from my install disc? tried 'c', open firmware password, system Pref/startup disc etc with no luck.
Everything is 100% genuine so using discs that were provided with iBook etc
Can anyone help cause I think I might top myself soon! ha ha
    Regards

Have you tried starting your computer, login to your account, and then inserting the first startup disc like it was just any other disc?
Be sure you inserted the first disk, it has a number on it.
At that point, it should appear on your desktop, if you have that set in your Finder preferences. If not, then check the sidebar in a Finder window, though you would have to have it set in Finder preferences for it to show up there, too. If it doesn't show up in either place, then I'd suggest checking your Finder preferences.
If a window didn't automatically open once the disc was mounted, just open it like any other folder. There's a "Read Me" file in there that should help out. Essentially it comes down to double-clicking the installer on the disc, and that will tell you it's about to reboot. Click okay and just let it happen, don't bother with pressing any keys or touching the computer.
If that doesn't work, then you'll have to give more info, or just give up.

  • How do I install Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 on new MacBook Pro without DVD drive?

I just purchased my first MacBook Pro and am trying to get everything set up and installed. I purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 and retrieved my serial number and have the redemption code -- but I can't figure out how to install Photoshop without a DVD drive. The Photoshop package I purchased only provides DVDs and I don't have a DVD drive. Is there a website I can go to to install Photoshop and enter my serial number or redemption code?

Have you tried downloading the trial version and using your serial
    number to activate it?
The trial version is a complete product and can be activated by
    inserting the valid serial number.
    Good luck.
