How do I remove a backup email address from my apple id account?

I'm attempting to sign up for an Apple ID with the aim of eventualy signing up for the developer program. Unfortuantly the site claimed that I have already signed up.
The reason for this is my gmail address is frequently mistakenly entered when other people with similar names sign up for stuff. Unfortunatly one of these people seems to have signed up for an Apple ID with my address and setup security questions without ever having verfied their email. I've reset the password, verified my email and logged in but there is some stuff I can't change.
I don't know their security questions and I can't remove their alternative email which leaves me open to them taking control of my apple ID in the future!
I really want to use my current email as I use it for everything but I can't change the security questions or alternative email!
Please help!!

Depending upon the address (some Apple addresses can't be removed) then you may be able to remove it by logging into the account via the 'manage your apple id' link on http://appleid.apple.com

If you mean that Find My Phone is asking for a password to a different Apple ID to your current Apple ID.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

As far as I know - you can't remove them in the mail app. The mail app inssists on remembering them. You just have to ignore them and eventually they are supposed to move to the bottom of the suggested email list.

There is no way to delete the remembered email addresses in the mail app. Removing them from your Contacts has no bearing on how this affects the mail app. The only real way to delete those remembered addresses is to restore the iPad to factory settings. That is a pretty harsh workaround just to have the mail app forget some email addresses.
If you ignore those addresses, eventually they will go away, but it can take some time before that happens. There is nothing short of restoring to factory settings that you can do now to remove them.

I've created my apple ID using a Gmail address but then decided to create an @me.com email. I now want the Gmail address removed alltogether from this account so that I only recieve billing info and such on my @me.com account. How to do it?
Trying to do this from the account settings fails as it tells me I cannot set an @me.com address as primary.

That's right. I'm afraid. Part of the reason is that you need to have a [email protected] address associated with the account for contact purposes - for example, if you forgot your password, you could reset it and have the reset one emailed to you, but it woulndn't do much good if it was sent to the @me.com address and you couldn't access it.
You can change the Gmail address to something else, but in any case the only time you will encounter it in normal use is as a login, and even that is automatic in most cases.

The ONLY way, currently, to remove this data from an iOS device is to restore the device as "new" in iTunes, NOT from backup. This will, of course, erase all data on the device, including this contact data. You either do that, or you live with it.

If you need to use a different iCloud account with a different ID as your primary iCloud account, you can still set up your other iCloud address as a secondary account by going to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Add Account>iCloud, signing in with your ID and turning Mail to on. If all you want is an additional email address you can create up to three 'email aliases' - these are additional addresses (not accounts) which deliver into the same inbox as the main account.
You should be aware before you start that once you've created an alias you cannot turn that address into a full iCloud account, move it to another account, or reactivate it if you delete it.
