How do I remove a disk from my mac mini (late 2009)?

I am trying to regain my mac mini (late 2009) which came with OS X Snow Leopard.  WHY?   Because, after spending quite a few bucks, I have tried and failed to find a suitable substitute for APPLEWORKS.  (I still have the disk)
I erased the Mac Mini's memory, so it is blank READY FOR me to install Snow Leopard. I still have 10.6.3 install disks.
HA HA.   That's a laugh.
1) After I put it in the MM,& started it up using my 10.6.3 install disk. The install app told me I couldn't install this system on this computer.  WHY WHY?
2) Now I have a 10.6.3 disk stuck in the MM and I don't know how to get it out.
Anybody PLEASE PLEASE !!
(Normally I use a MM (mid 2011) but I want this other MM available to me.)

Dear Allan,  Very interesting solutions to a stuck disk.  I'm going to keep it for future.
I finally did get my disk out - because I started up using my Mtn.Lion BU (it's a Firewire) which I connected to my old MM late 2009.  There she was & I ejected it.
And I did finally get my MM  2009 working again with Snow Leopard - with the great help from ds store.
So now I have my Appleworks back too.   YAH!

  • How do i remove  osx server from my mac mini and just run mac osx lion

i don'r wish to run osx server just osx lion. how do i remove the server software?

One possibility is to obtain the DMG for OS X Lion, boot from it and reinstall the client version.
In my past experience, you'll keep the OS X Lion Server recovery partition, but you will most definitely be running OS X Lion without the server software deployed.
(I'm not sure if you can uninstall the Server software from a Mac Mini Server -- this appears to be integrated with the OS)

  • How do I remove iTunes U from my Mac?

How do I remove iTunes U from my Mac?  Or permanently remove files from iTunes U?
I made the mistake and added my own local files to iTunes U.  I deleted them from iTunes U.  Now when I add the files back into iTunes, it places them in iTunes U.
    Thanks in advance.

In iTunes Right Click on your file that you want removed from iTunes U and select Get Info. Select the Options tab. Go down to Media kind and select something other than iTunes U and click Ok. That should do it...

  • How do i remove codec m from my mac

How do I remove codec m from my mac???
Every time I try to uninstall this program, it never works. I have tried moving the items to the trash, but the product still remains! HELP

My friend's MacBook was infected with this awhile back.  Here is the order I would uninstall it.  There is a LaunchAgent in /Users/<your username>/Library/LaunchAgents, move the launch agent to the trash, then restart your mac. After that, there is a named Codec-M in /Users/<your username>/Library/Application Support/, trash that whole folder. Finally, trash the app found in the Applications folder, and make sure that none of the web browsers (Google Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.) have a Codec-M extension or add-on installed.  If they do remove them and you should be good to go after you empty your trash.

  • How do i reformat my hard drive on mac mini late 2011 with yosemite before selling my mac

how do i reformat my hard drive on mac mini late 2011 with yosemite before selling my mac

You can't legally sell or give away that computer with Yosemite installed.
Before you sell or give away your computer, in addition to the steps listed in this support article, take these steps:
    1. Run Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test. The buyer will do this (or he should), and you don't want to be surprised by the results.
    2. Reset the PRAM and the SMC, which might contain personal information.
    3. If you set a firmware password, remove it by running Firmware Password Utility in Recovery mode.
    4. If you activated FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, turn it off.
    5. If you use Boot Camp, the partition must be deleted.
    6. If you created any other data partitions on the internal drive, remove them in Disk Utility.
    7. If the machine has an internal hard drive, erase the one remaining data partition with the option to zero out data. An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
You can't legally or practically transfer any software downloaded from the Mac App Store to the new owner of the machine, even if it was free. That includes OS X, so if you upgraded to OS X 10.7 or later, you must reinstall an older OS, either from the installation media, if applicable, or by starting up in Internet Recovery mode (option-command-R at the startup chime.) If you installed from physical media, deliver those to the new owner.
If you're selling the machine, or donating it in working order, and it originally shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, then you have the option of installing either from the discs that came with it or from a retail Snow Leopard disc (which you must then transfer to the buyer.) The buyer should understand that if he doesn't get the original discs from you, he won't get the bundled iLife applications or the Apple Hardware Test. Replacements for the original discs can be ordered from Apple.
The new owner will have to redownload any software that came from the App Store, including OS X upgrades, under his or her Apple ID. If you ever updated the bundled iLife applications (Garage Band, iMovie, and iPhoto) through the App Store, you can't transfer those either. The buyer will have to purchase them.
Remove the machine from your list of registered products. If it's still covered by an AppleCare Protection Plan, transfer the coverage to the new owner by following the instructions in the AppleCare Terms and Conditions (under the heading "Transfer of Plan.")

  • How do I know if my brand new Mac mini (late 2012) really has Mac OS X 10.9 Maverick preinstalled?

How do I know if my brand new Mac mini (late 2012) really has Mac OS X 10.9 Maverick preinstalled, as stated when I bought it, without opening the box and booting the device? It says "Copyright 2012 Apple Inc." on one of the sides of the box, which makes me uncertain.
If it does not have Mac OS X 10.9 Maverick preinstalled I might have bought an old device, in worst case as old as a year or more.
            /Birger

The late 2012 does have USB 3 !!
I specifically waited to purchase a Mac Mini
until USB 3 was made available.
Look at the diagram (picture) on the bottom of the box.  The diagram that details which ports are available on the unit.
If you see 3 after USB.. then it is a late 2012 Mac Mini.
Looking at my box it clearly says USB 3.
I don't think there has been any changes to the Mac Mini since late 2012.
other than the pre-installed OS being Mavericks now..
    You will want USB 3!!!
My box also indicates it is version 2.6 (just above the Airport ID).
(Mine is definitely a late 2012 model).

  • How can I remove Snow leopard from my Mac, it crash all important programs

Please tell me how I can remove Snow Leopard from my machine & revert back to Leopard 10.5.8
Since I loaded Snow leopard, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Quark & Mail all quit over & over again. I never had ANY of these issues before loading snow leopard. I rely daily on the programs I listed. I am not saying once in a while, but constantly; opening the programs, exporting, placing graphics, emailing, you name it, it quits the program I am in. I keep sending apple the crash reports, but I am afraid I have reached my end. (Apple must have a folder fu;l of crashes with my email address in it by now.)
To maintain my sanity PLEASE tell me there is a way to do this without risking loosing any of my data.
I do have time machine hooked up.
Please be a life saver (sanity saver) and tell me how to get Snow Leopard off my machine!!!!!

    First, Welcome to the Discussions,
Second, there is no way to successfully degrade an OS to a previous version. You would have to install anew a previous OS, thereby erasing all your data. Then you would take that version up as far as you want to go.
Of course if you've been using Time Machine you can recover to the prior system and retain your files using that.
Best of all would be to have a firewire external drive and use an app like this to make a clone on. No worries then if one wants to go back before any major changes very precisely.

  • How can I transfer Elements 10 from my Mac Mini to my new iMac?

    Hi all!
I recently purchased Elements 10 and installed it on my Mac Mini only because my old iMac was dying.  I now have a new iMac and I would like to have Elements 10 on the iMac and remove it from my Mac Mini.  I want to do this because the Mac Mini is used as a music server.  The iMac desktop is my main computer and is a much better place to have Elements 10.
Can I do this?  What do I need to do?
    Thanks in advance!
    Dave

On the mini, go to Editor>Help Deactivate. Then install PSE on the imac. You can actually have it on two computers, but if you don't want it on the mini anymore you might as well free up that activation for future use.
Don't try to copy PSE to the new computer. It installs stuff in many places, not just the applications folder, unless you have the app store version, in which case you would just go to app store>purchases on the imac to add it there. The app store version can be installed on all the macs that use the same app store/itunes ID, no matter how many that may be,

  • How can I get full resolution from my Mac mini?

I have a Mac mini (Late 2014) and an LG 27MP35HQ-B monitor. I’m using an HDMI / mini-DisplayPort (Thunderbolt) cable.
The 27MP35HQ-B supports resolution of 1920 x 1080. The Mac mini supports resolution of 1920 x 1080 using the HDMI port and up to 2560 x 1600 via the mini-DisplayPort.
But the best resolution I see on the Displays Preferences menu for the Mac mini is 1600 x 900. Any suggestions on what I can do to up the resolution?

  • Constant DNS Lookup from New Mac Mini Late 2012 Model i7

Just bought a new i7 Mac Mini ( late 2012 )...my first mac....the wifi connection is way too slow comparing to its installed bootcamp Windows 8 that I installed on it afterwards.
I started to track the ip and port that got queries in Mac Mini, I noticed that those applications are querying ports every 0.1 sec...those are
    rsResponderDNS - port 53
    Gamed - random port
    And many other applications.
My question is if Mac installed some applications that is like HP computers with HP framework that constantly sending tracking data and Ad tracking back to Apple or something.
Very disapointed with my first mac, I felt like I bought a HP mac...
Currently I setup firewall rules to block most of the ports from going out...the firewall interface is a bit confusing too....normally, it should block all incoming ports for home users since it is not a server, but based on the firewall interface it is saying that the rules setup is allowing certain incoming ports...why would I open any incoming ports? I need to restrict outgoing port. Furthermore, if you check off block all outgoing port, it blocks everything even though there are rules setup in the firewall as white list.

It sounds like you installed something that used nsResponder, not rsResponder.  Double check that.
    https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/cocoa/reference/applicatio nkit/classes/NSResponder_Class/DeprecationAppendix/AppendixADeprecatedAPI.html
Says that part of code is deprecated on Mac OS X 10.8.  Which suggests that you are using some old software expecting a code for nsResponder and can't find it in 10.8.
One software I know that will monitor network traffic is Little Snitch.  But what I don't know is how to uninstall it.   I would check with the developer of it, how to uninstall it before installing it, as it can slow down your network traffic even more.  But at least it should be able to tell you what applications are attempting to network.

  • Can I install and use any 2.5" SATA hard disk on my Mac Mini (Late 2012)?

I have a Mac Mini (Late 2012) which is currently housing a 500GB SATA hard disk. Unfortunately read errors have been detected and it seems to be slowing down. I want to replace this with another 500GB SATA hard disk and I was wondering whether any notebook (2.5") hard disk would work or whether I have to look for one with specific specs (such as RPM, SATA version, etc).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any 2 1/2 inch STA HD will work as long as the height is 9.5 mm or less. All most all meet this requirement except very larger capacity ones
I would opt for a SSD since those are a lot faster than a 2 1/2 HD and now they are very reasonably priced.
You can consider installing a second disk to using:

  • How do I remove a disk from Time Machine

Just replaced a dead disk on my sister's iMac.
Didn't have an extra external disk at the time, so started Time Machine using a second partition on the new disk.
Now have a spare external disk plugged in.
I have Time Machine backing up to the external disk.
But how do I remove the internal disk partition from Time Machine???
Do I just delete the backup file???
This ought to be simple but I can't figure it out.

Use Disk Utility to erase the partition.
Select the volume containing the backup (one of the entries indented to the right below the physical drive).
Click the erase tab and click erase. Ensure the default file system is set (Mac OS extended (journalled)).
How you proceed from there depends which partition has the OS.
Select the physical drive in DU (the top entry with the maker's name and drive size)
    Select the partition tab.
You have a graphic of the partitions. the one you just erased will be all white, the OS partition will be partly blue.
If the the OS partition is the top one, drag the bottom corner to the full depth of the window. That will eliminate the erased partition.
If the OS partition is the bottom one, and you need the space, you'll need to erase the entire HDD and repartition.

  • How do I remove a disk from a 17" iMac that won't boot up?

I recently came across an old 1st Gen, 17" iMac. It starts and plays the startup chime, but then nothing happens. I managed to insert a startup disk and tried to get it to boot from that, but no luck. Now I can't get the disk out. I can't find a manual eject slot anywhere near the drive. Is there some secret to ejecting disks from a dead computer?

I recently came across an old 1st Gen, 17" iMac
To me, a 1Gen iMac is a G3 with a 15-inch CRT, 2Gen is the G4 with a half-dome base and articulated metal monitor arm, and the 3Gens were G5s with all the hardware behind the monitor. This may help:
    How to identify your iMac
It would be nice to get a model clarification so one of us doesn't give your advice for the wrong model.
That said, here's something that works for all iMacs: If it gives the chime, try holding down the mouse button while to attempting to boot, That's a default for ejecting disks. Maybe the computer will run long enough to trigger the eject function before the nothingness returns.

  • How do I remove an entry from my .Mac Sync list?

I use Soho Notes and even though I've instructed it (through their own software) not to sync their Notes and Keywords with .Mac Sync, those items continue to show up as choices. I've un-checked them of course, but how can I remove them completly?

    HI John,
I just found this: Instructions on resetting data:
    How to reset .Mac Sync
If you are going to reset the sync data, make sure to reset it from the computer that has the most up-to-date information on it. If you sync between computers with different versions of Mac OS X, try to reset the sync data from the computer with Mac OS X 10.4, if possible. Here's how to reset .Mac Sync.
To reset your .Mac Sync data in Mac OS X 10.4:
Make sure that all your data is correct and current in Address Book, iCal, Safari bookmarks, Keychain, Mail, and other applications that use .Mac Sync, and make sure that you are connected to the Internet.
Open System Preferences and click .Mac.
Click the Advanced tab and then click Reset Sync Data.
From the Replace pop-up menu, choose the information you want to reset, such as Bookmarks, Keychains, or all data.
Click the right arrow button so that the orange arrow flows from the computer icon to the .Mac icon in the window, and the text above the icons says "On .Mac with sync info from this computer."
Hopefully this will help you Remove or Add items to the list. I just tried it on my own and it worked like a charm.

  • How do I remove ransom ware from my mac? Seems the PC instructions don't work...

My computer was attacked with this ransom ware with the Finnish police text, asking me to pay 100€. I find instructions on how to remove this lock from my computer only for PC users. Is there an equivalent for Mac users?

Good morning Tåbbe, from your description, I believe you are dealing with Browlock. Your lock screen should look very similar to this:  Browlock is in a sense simpler than other ransomware, as the "lock screen" is actually just a web page that uses tricks to make it difficult to close. Depending on your browser, forcefully closing your browser should already do the trick of removing this threat. If you are having troubles with that, the nice folks at support can help you out. This said, if the lockscreen above does not look like the one you are seeing, please post more pictures and we'll help you identify what you have. Regards,   Paolo
