How do i remove a failed apple hardware test from About this Mac?

I ran  Apple Hardware Test quicktest using the wrong disk/ version of AHT that did not support my motherboard.  Now under About this Mac .. more detail.. diagnostics it shows this failed test. i want it out of there. Thanks, jim

Long story .. but board is a different model than original.  ... bought water damage repair off of Ebay... got a call that it could not be repaired but they offered to replace the board for only 20$ more... so i let them do it. Original board was early 2008 2.4 GHZ Core Duo, new board is 2.2GHZ Core duo late 20007...  they put an older board in than was original. i'm not real happy but it works... I guess you get what you pay for.

  • MacMini 2010 4,1 how to run Apple Hardware Test from  /System/Library/CoreServices/.diagnostics folder

I have a 2010 Mac Mini4,1 with SnowLeapard and plan to upgrade to Mavericks, but can't run Apple Hardware Test from my applications disk 2 that came with the machine.  For some reason the Mac can read it and kicks it our after about a minute.  Seems to be able to reado other disks, so this one may be corrupted. I found info on this community that says that the AHT is on the hard disk and I found it here /System/Library/CoreServices/.diagnostics using terminal.  When open that folder using terminal it open a window with that folders contents.  My problem is I can execute the only unix executable in that  folder.  It responds with "No application knows how to open /System/Library/CoreServices/.diagnostics/diags.efi"
Can someone help me out here or if there is downloadable somewhere on line that I can get?

My 2010 4,1 Mac Mini still has the HW Test on the Internal HD after updating it to Lion, Mountain Lion and Mavericks.
see > Using Apple Hardware Test
Additionally if your using a wireless keyboard and it is not invoking the Hardware Test using the D key immediately after the chine, then you may need to use a USB keyboard. Adding that any Apple, PC or generic Logitech USB keyboard should work for invoking the startup commands.

  • Running Apple Hardware Test from a cloned drive partition

So I remember someone suggested perhaps running Apple Hardware Test from a hard drive partition, in order to speed things up.
So far all I have are three partitions, with one (9GB partition) cloned from Install Disk 1 that came with my (Santa Rosa) MacBook - on my WD MyBook Home (FW/USB) using FW. If I hold down the option key during startup, I get the option to boot from the clone of Install Disk 1. I tried that, but only got a query whether I wanted to install Leopard on one of my partitions.
I know for standard Apple Hardware Test I'm supposed to hold down D while it starts up with Install Disk 1 inside. I tried this after selecting the hard drive, but got nothing. Any suggestions how to proceed?

I've never heard of being able to extract the Apple Hardware Test application out of the install disk. I'm not sure it's possible since it doesn't appear in the Finder on the install disk in the first place. Do you remember where you saw that suggestion? Since he hardware tests are supposed to be running as completely removed from the computer's own hardware as possible (except, of course, from your optical drive reading the install disk), I'm not sure running it from an external hard drive would give you valid results.
I looked it up. It was something else. Mort uses it to run Disk Utility (why'd I think it was Hardware Test?) instead of from the standard boot volume. I guess this would be a good idea if there's a complete restore using Time Machine?

I still would prefer a separate Apple Hardware Test CD like I got with my iBook G3 600. It would be interesting if there was a way to run it out of a drive partition.

    Hi all,
I tried a different charger myself (the power source is reliable). But it does not work too. I think I need to bring it down to apple shop.
But is quite disappointing with the new apple product I have. Cos not only my battery is not charging, my built in speaker, the sound is like broken too. So I can hear some noisy sound when I play music.
I have a power book G4, and the power book, everything is still in good condition. Imagine how many yrs I have with the power book G4. This power book I never bring to do any services before. I sometimes really suspect is it Apple drop quality
(cos the office new bought mac from my boss, the USB port is not working too..)
But thanks all for the reply I think I need to bring it down to apple shop. Thanks!

Yes 10.8.2 is the latest version of Mountain Lion. 10.7 was Lion and 10.6 was Snow Leopard.

  • How to launch Apple Hardware Test from a USB optical drive?

    Hi all!
First off, and before you guys starting proposing solutions I can't implement, I don't, repeat DON'T have a Firewire optical drive, nor am I going to buy one: I recently had to buy a USB LG optical drive to compensate for my SuperDrive going AWOL on me. I used said drive to reinstall OSX about a month ago, so this LG drive works just fine, thank you.
The thing is, I'd like to conduct an Apple Hardware Test, and I know you have to boot from OSX CD n°1 (in my case) to do that. Alas, since I can't boot from the CD in my SuperDrive by keeping the D key down, all I have is this LG thingy, and I wonder how I can conduct my hardware test with a USB optical drive.
I'll sum it up for you:
    1) My SuperDrive isn't working, stopped working about the same time I installed this EFIng (guffaw, guffaw) Security Update 2009-001;
    2) I don't have a Firewire optical drive;
    3) All I have is a USB optical drive and MacOS X CDs.
    4) Booting with the OSX CD in my USB optical drive and keeping D, C or alt keys didn't help.
I read in another forum that you could somehow copy the content of the OSX CD on a flash drive, then boot from the flash drive and conduct an AHT, but I'm not sure how it can be done.

    Hi!
Looks like we posted at exactly the same time, Glynn! LOL
Anyway, I did just what you said, drag'n'drop and all. The problem is, when I boot from the USB hard drive, it's exactly as if I were booting from the CD: first I'm asked to choose a language, then the install screen appears, and I can either reinstall on my startup disk from the USB hard drive (that's kinda cool, but I don't think I leave in on my USB hard drive, which can only content 40Gb, because I've almost 25Gb worth of data to retransfer soon...
So, in a nutshell, I couldn't find Apple Hardware Test anywhere. I even explored the CD content, but there are so many files...
What's my best option now? Could AppleJack help me here? Can I install AHT on my startup disk and boot on it using a special set of keys?
Almost time to go to work. A 5 minute walk, though...

  • I can"t open the apple hardware test from the applecare support website

i received the applecare training program for my birthday and while exploring the applecare service source website i found a image file of the apple hardware test (AHT) for each model along with a pdf of the service manual and a pdf of the AHT service codes. The problem i'm having is, i cant open the image of the AHT.

After downloading that image, open it and it will show up mounted in your desktop. Then, open Disk Utility (in /Applications/Utilities), right-click your Apple Hardware Test image in the sidebar and burn it to a DVD. Finally, start your computer from the disc, holding the C key, so Apple Hardware Test should start, always that you have the correct version for your computer.
You have Apple Hardware Test in the Applications disc that came with the computer. In that case, hold the D key while your computer is starting

  • Running Apple Hardware test from DVDs

    Hi,
I am trying to run Apple Hardware Test, following the instructions at this site.
Restarted the machine  with the letter D pressed, disconnected external devices, except mouse-keyboard and my  (2) screens.
I disconnected i-lok dongle from PT HD/digidesign at an usb port  and connections to the  external audio intefcaes .
There are 2 pci-e cards inside this 1,1 MAc Pro.
I know It is a bit weird to ask this ( I used to do this with a G4 and a G3), but I only see the disc open with all the installation content and no AHT icon or utility.
    I tried DVD1, 2 of 10.4, 10.5 and 10.6.
    Thanks

Sure, that is the first disc I inspected.
    Thanks!
    10.4.x
I press D but the test does not start. Laso,  I did not find the AHT icon at the disc.
I see the MAc Os installers, miscelaneous...
I might be doing something wrong.
BTW... I also love cats. There is one right here by my side. I will post a pic soon!

  • Ran Apple Hardware Test from USB Install Drive on new MBA, Got this error

Last week I got the fully loaded 2010 MBA 13" (2.13ghz/4gb/256gb).
It's just perfect, I have no problems with it.
On a whim, I ran the quick Apple Hardware Test using the included USB install drive (took just a few minutes) and it came up with this:
Alert! Apple Hardware Test has detected an error.

Any ideas on what that means? Hopefully it's a false positive. I'm running the extended test right now, which will take more than an hour. Will report back.
Anyone seeing anything from the hardware test?

  • Remove ATA from 'About this Mac' window

I replaced my MATSHITACD-RW CW-8122 on my PB to a straight HD, Hitachi HTS541616J9AT00. My question is when I open the 'About this Mac' window it still shows the MATSHITACD-RW CW-8122 even though it has been removed. How do I get rid of that info because my DVD/CD burning software references the non-existant drive.
    ??

Ok cornelius it was a while back when I changed it because the drive it came w/was becoming noisy and the time I had 40GB of music and tons of pictures so I figured it was time to replace. This is exactly what I see in the 'System Profiler' (I figured out that is what I am referring not 'About this Mac')

  • Apple hardware test from firewire drive?

I can't find my restore dvds for my macbook. I have an image of the first disk copied via disk utility to a firewire drive. i can start my macbook from the firewire drive but i can't seem to get the hardware test to start. on the dvd you have to press the d key when the computer starts up. (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303081) I can't get this to work with the firewire drive. does anyone know if this is possible. don't they do it that way at the genius bar?
    thanks
    -jmondo

    Thanks eww.
I have booted from os 9 and deleted the ati drivers of the X.4 system folder. Now it boots and Im typing on it. I didnt run a dvd yet since I did a very basic intall, but at least the genie effect works. I understand that the cpu takes the graphic tasks when the video card cant handle, so I suppose I should expect poor performance...
But still, I wanted this machine to run pro tools in os 9, so I think I will do fine, and have x.4 for internet. I just need to test a bit more so that I dont miss a live recording thanks to the weird motherboard.
Also, the screen doesnt look very good without the drivers and it cant be adjusted in any way.
Will update if I find anything new.

  • How do I remove a strange Apple ID Account from IPad?

When I bought my IPad 3,  I gave it to an installer in Dubail to download and install applications in my iPad and he did while also setting up the iPad initially. It appears the installer used his own apple Id in doing the initial download and set up which I did not realize then. Now each time I try to download any application in my iPad, the installer Id appears and I am prompted to enter his password. No matter how I try, my own Id does not appear and so can not be prompted to enter my own password. How do I delete the installer Id to enable my Own ID and password to be prompted when I download applications?  Please help me solve this problem as I can not download any application now.

The easiest way is to go into your  (settings)  then to (general) and near the bottom you''ll see ( ' reset ' )
You can reset your device without losing any email, texts, photos, apps, etc. All the reset does is
revert your device to the point before you made any setting choices such as:
    wallpaper
    volume
text modes ( on/off ) automatic spell check, caps, etc.
screen brightness, etc. all the changes made to the factory presets
I had to do this to my new iPad(3) and it worked like a charm.
It only took a few minutes to go back in and change
all the preference items back to my specific design choices.
    Best of luck!

  • Apple hardware test gives me this code:  4SNS/1/1C0000008:TN1D--124

    4SNS/1/1C0000008:TN1D--124
this is the code i get . I runned the test because my laptop is a macbook pro 13 2.4ghz mid 2010 with mac os x 10.6 and it is getting a reurrent problem that is that the fan starts to go faster than usual after 1 minute of starting up the laptop and the cpu load gets up to 99% of usage and the system becomes slow like the lag becomes extreme.
The laptop suffered a waterspill like 3 months ago but I got it fixed only  that the battery is no longuer working , not even a new one  i bought. Also a memory slot died and the microphone isnt working even if its new. I also got the dc in board replaced but the one i got was a 2008 model but seemd to be workign fine until last new years eve when it got back to the lag.
Can you tell me if its a faulty temperature sensor on the logic board that causes the fan to accelerate or as a laptop repair guy told me it is the hard drive. Could it be the hard drive? Would i get a hard drive kind of error if it was that? i doubt its the hard drive. the guy wanted to sell me a new hard drive so maybe he new what the problem is and wanted to make me think its he hard drive so i buy a new one from him.
If its some temp sensor then I dont get why i get a normal temperature reading using a program i got that measures it , it marks 38 Celsius, which seems normal temp to me.
Also the laptop is receiving 16.6 v at the dc in pin connectors after i checked it with a voltimeter.
So, what do you think the problem really comes from? Can it be repaired?
    thank you

Hi eww thank you for answering.
I have installed Istat pro and all temperature sensors measure ok ( Celsius )
    HD 30

    Are there anyother sensors.
