How do I remove a partition?

Hi
i have a imac 500mhz with tiger
i created a partition along time ago messing around with stuff...and now i want to remove it.
I know i probably have to erase my HD but thats fine..i just dont want to see the partition anymore
thanks!

1. Start up the Mac with the installer disk in the drive while holding down the "C" key.
2. Installer opens. Don't run it. Instead, select Disk Utility from the "Utilities" menu.
3. In D.U., select the drive & then the "Partition" tab.
4. Select the number of partitions you want from the popup list, 1 partition in your case.
5. Name the partition or go with the default "Macintosh HD" name.
6. Click the "Partition" button.
For more info, just browse Disk Utility's help. Try the topic, "Partitioning a disk into several volumes" or just start with "Learn about Disk Utility" & follow the links.

    Drive Preparation
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

  • How do I remove disk partition and merge the 2 partitions into main hard disk C drive. Win7

How do I remove a disk  partition  and merge the 2 partitions into main hard disk C drive. If I delete Drive  D I am left with 250G of unallocated space in drive D Hard drive. And I want the unallocated portion 250G to be allocated
    to the C drive.jc

I know it is a little bit late to reply. But, I still want to share my experiences with everyone here.
Actually, I have ever also has the same issue and needed to resize my C drive partition for much more partition space. But, the resizing process just unexpectedly fails at last in Disk Management. The “extend” function is unable to work.
So, I have no choice but to take chances with some third party partition resizing tools:
    GParted
    http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
    IM-Magic Partition Resizer Free
    http://www.resize-c.com/
Both of them seem efficient. So, I just have tried them one by one and finally added wanted free space to my C drive successfully.
I even have found a video tutorial that teaches me how to resize my drive with this freeware in details:

  • How do I remove the partition on my hard drive?

I've got 20 GB dedicated to Windows but want to remove the partition and make the hard drive 100% Mac-use only. Any ideas on how to do that?

Use the Boot Camp Assistant in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to remove it. If you're running Mac OS X 10.4, also see this article.

  • How do you remove a partition

I created a partition using resizeVolume, and now I would like to remove it.
Is there any way to remove the partition with out reformatting the entire Volume, like you would do with disk utility?
The manual for resizeVolume kinda leads me to believe that there might be a way.
"Non-destructively resize a disk. You may increase or decrease its size.
When decreasing size, you may optionally supply a list of new partitions to create."
Or am I just misinterpreting what that means? Like does the increase volume size pertain only the the Volumes on the Disk, or could it mean that you could somehow increase it back to its original size while removing the created partition?

  • How to completely remove Macintosh partition and assign it to Windows partition?

I've been a mac user for over 4 years now. I own a Macbook Pro (early 2008 model). I had leopard running until a month ago when I decided to upgrade to meet with the system spec demands of many applications. I first installed Snow Leopard. Snow leopard used to auto log me out. (This is  a known bug. Check google). Then I figured I must install Lion. But Lion freezes at login screen a million times. And next I upgraded to Mountain Lion. It does not boot up at all!
So, I have Windows 7 on my bootcamp partition but now I want to ONLY have windows on my macbook and remove mac os completely. How can I do that without reformatting/reinstalling anything?
    Thank you.

You can do that but it is not suggested. Why because Apple writes drivers, or supplies driver, that you really can't get elsewhere and sets up the system to work better with Windows then installing Windows all by itself
The thing to do is install OS X Clean, whatever flavor you like but the newer versions of OS X is recommended, and Nothing But the OS. No other program from Apple or any other Mac software writer. Then use Boot Camp to assign all remaining HDD space to a Boot Camp partition, leaving 10-20GBs over what OS X is using. Then install Windows.
Then all you have to do is NEVER boot back into OS X.
The only problem with that is the way Apple sets up the Windows partition system. Once setup you really can't fool with the BC partition, like splitting it into 2 partitions, as that may cause Windows to fail.
Or you could just retire your old and aging Mac and buy a brand new Windows notebook. Faster, more HDD space, more memory and included a new warranty.
    Just sayin.

  • How do I remove Yosemite installation partition

I have a 2009 iMac with the primary OS disk being an SSD and the secondary disk as my Home drive.  I downloaded Yosemite via the App Store but never installed it.  Instead,  I created a bootable installation USB stick in order to perform a fresh installation on this iMac.  After successful "clean" installation to the primary SSD, I noticed there is an approximate 100GB partition on my secondary Home HD called, "Install OS X Yosemite".  How do I remove this partition without affecting all the contents on my HD?
    Thank you in advance.

Please open Disk Utility, select the primary drive entry (out-dented) then click on the Partition tab in the main window. Take a screenshot and post here.
To post screen shot do this:
Press COMMAND-SHIFT-4 which will change the cursor to crosshairs.
Hold down the mouse button and use the crosshairs to select the part of the screen you wish to capture.
Release the button and the image will be saved to your Desktop.
Click on the Camera icon in the toolbar of the forum message editor.
Drag the image onto the Choose File button and click on the Insert button.

  • How to remove USB partition?

I have an 8GB flash drive which I use for my digital photo frame. I deleted all photos and reloaded more recent ones and once I placed the USB in the frame only old photos which I thought I had deleted appeared.
I then discovered that the USB has a partition that contained the older photos. I deleted these but the USB will only display photos in the one area which has very little space. How can I remove the partition or have the photo frame recognise the other much larger partition?
    Please help if you can.

    Hi budy,
You can change/edit the partition of USB and all other drives in Windows Disk Managment if you have Vista or Windows 7.
Here is a nice article that can help you do to this:

  • HT4818 remove bootcamp partition

At one time I set up bootcamp to use Windows Xp. I had partitioned my HD. How do I remove that partition? I am running Mountain Lion OS.

I just started bootcamp assistant and just choose it. But here is a guide i found, Mountain lion looks a bit differnt but almost the same.
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3955314?start=0&tstart=0
So just go to Applications then in Applications go to the Utilities folder, inside the folder you got Bootcamp assistance. Just start it and it will recognize your partition, and you can do it like i did.
When i did it i just got one option, "remove windows 7 partition".

  • How can I remove the BootCamp partition? as the size i created ws too small to install MS Office on 64Bit Windows 8.1 on MacBook Pro (Aug'13)

How can I remove the BootCamp partition drive for Windows 8.1, as the size which I created was too small for me to install Microsoft Office onto Windows 8.1 64-BIt. The machine which I have is the MacBook Pro 13' inch purchased in August 2013.

Either use Paragon's CampTuneX to resize it or use Boot Camp Assistant to remove the partition and restore the drive to one partition. Then create a new, larger Boot Camp partition. This will remove/delete/erase your Windows system.

  • How to remove a partition of my hard drive

I have an old 2007 HP Pavilian DV6000 series with Windows Vista. At some point, one of my husbands friends had the bright idea to partition the hard drive and put Linux (Ubuntu) operating system on my laptop. I haven't used this laptop in a few years now because once he did that the laptop has been screwy ever since. I want to remove that OS and remove that partition. I don't have a recovery disc to do a factory reset, I've tried that and I've tried restoring to early point and nothing is working. So how can I un partition that part of the hard drive and remove that horrible OS?? Vista is still on there and I can still access Windows, but I just want my computer back to how it should be. Thanks!

You will have to clean the HDD.
You can use diskpart to delete all existing partitions and partition table,  See info @

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc766465(v=WS.10).aspx
Or you can use a 3rd party utility downloaded from the internet or the HDD manufacturer to clean the HDD.
