Select current Pic and chose to Change it.
You get an option to take a SnapShot.

If you already changed System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Allow apps downloaded from: to Anywhere then issue is not Gatekeeper which is the built-in service that prevents apps from unidentified developers from being executed. It's possible that you need to either reinstall the App or maybe is simply not compatible with Mavericks yet. In any event you should be able to at-least look for a crash log for more information.

If the applications were originally drag and drop installations you can simply drag them to the trash and empty. If they were installed by an installer there should be an uninstaller included. If you're not sure you should check with the software developer for instructions. In this case Google can be your friend.

HT1619 How do I disconnect an Apple remote from my MacBook Pro w/ Mountain Lion update?

My friend set up Apple TV while I was using my laptop in the same room and the remote is now connected to my laptop. I've looked at a bunch of different sites and forums trying to figure out how to disconnect it and it seems that with the new Mountain Lion operating system, there is no way to do this. PLEASE HELP it's driving me crazy because everytime he presses a buttom on the remote, it interferes with what I'm doing.

Sorry, but my late 2009 MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion continues to be be controlled by the ATV2 remote after disabling remotes in system preferences. Anyone else having the issue or has a solution?

I am a new user to the Mac family, and I'm loving it! I bought my MacBook Pro 15" with retina display with the intention of me being its only user. I am now reluctantly thinking of letting my almost 15 year old daughter use it. She has used it as a "Guest User", but upon logging off, all of her information gets erased. How do I create a second user? I want to make sure she cannot access my files, alter my settings, etc. But I want her to be able to save whatever she is working on. And I also want to be able to access her user to monitor her internet usage, and also add parental controls. Mahalo folks!

Open System Preferences -> Users & Groups and use the plus sign to add a new user. You can elect to give your daughter admin privileges or not, etc.

How do I remove files from my HD if MacBook Pro is not starting up?

My MacBook Pro has a solid state aftermarket hard drive that is completely full and is now causing start up problems. When I turn my laptop on the login screen comes up and I can enter my password and login as usual. However after login just a grey screen appears and it stays that way forever until I shut the computer down by holding power button. if I physically remove my hard drive is there any way I can hook it up to a different computer and remove files to free up enough space to allow my Mac to successfully start up and login? Ive already tried safe boot and NVRAM/PRAM reboots but neither of those worked. Let me know if my idea is possible/how or any other methods that would help me out.

If you have another Mac, use Target Disk Mode. Connect your Mac to the other Mac using a Thunderbolt or FireWire cable, and hold down the T key while booting up on the problematic Mac. If you go into Finder on the other Mac, the first one's hard drive should show up as a disk.

My partner and I purchased a MacBook Pro last year and somewhere along the line we have managed to confuse our Apple ID, we can't remember the password or email that the account is linked to and have tried everything to reset the password or locate the details. Sign out of your Apple ID in Settings. Then sign in with your new one. Keep in mind that all app purchased with the previous ID will always be associated with that old ID. You cannot transfer those purchases to the new ID.
Settings > iTunes and App Stores > tap on your Apple ID and sign out
Then sign in with your new ID.

I am a new Apple user who bought an ibook last August. I am not a techie and still am learning to use it but I love the way it never crashes! I am considering giving my computer to my kids (they have my old Toshiba and it is about to crater) and I am considering buying myself the new Macbook Pro (the 1.93 model). When I look at these forums, I think I may be making a mistake or getting in over my head until they have worked the kinks out with these new machines. Can anyone advise me regarding whether or not to purchase one if I am not a computer whiz?
