How to erase a background and make it transparent so only part of the photo is left
Hi all
I need to erase (mask, clip??) a background completely so the subject is just sitting on a transparent background. I keep ending up with white being substituted when i save the document. I need it just to have the person or object with blank canvas behind so I use it like that in inDesign.
Is there an idiots guide to how to do this.
Many thanks for any help
Jamesbest bet is to follow something like this: Quick Mask Mode | Understanding Adobe Photoshop CS6 | Adobe TV
When you have finished cutting/masking you image hide all other layers other than one with the image on and then save as a .psd. then when in InDesign import the .psd and it will come in with no background. -
Best way to edit out a white background and make a transparent gif
I have an image I purchased but need to make it into a gif. It already has a white background but when I use the magic wand it chops little bits of the edge of the images up.
Is there an easier way of editing the white out of this background and making a transparent gif?
I am using Adobe Photoshop CS2
Image is attached to take a look.
Thanks, I appreciate any help with this.
NickWorked perfect at a tolerance of 10, didn't know what that was for before
Thanks!

[ dwm ] How to change the wallpaper and make windows transparent ?
How do I change the wallpaper and make windows transparent ( ~ 20% ) ?
Have been Googl'ing for a while now but still have no clue on how to achieve itzowki wrote:

What terminal do you use? urxvt can set transparency in the Xdefaults file.

Or, if you don't like fiddling with Xdefaults file, you can simply make urxvt transparent by executing it like "urxvt -tr -sh 20", where the number represents the transparency level. However, this is only pseudo transparency, but I like it better than resource-consuming compositing.
Will give it a try. I'm not against .Xdefaults - just haven't used it that much and know only the basics ( color schemes ) -

How can I remove asm and ocr installation in AIX?
Hi,
I try to install single instance with using ASM in AIX.
But I did not make successfully.
Now I want to remove ASM and OCR installation then
I will plan to make new clear installation.
How can I remove asm and ocr ??
Or How can I control my removing is fully correct ?1) ASM Instance Clean-Up Procedures
Stop all of the databases that use the ASM instance that is running from the Oracle home that is on the node that you are deleting.
On the node that you are deleting, if this is the Oracle home which from which the ASM instance runs, then remove the ASM configuration by completing the following steps. Run the command srvctl stop asm -n node_name for all of the nodes on which this Oracle home exists. Run the command srvctl remove asm -n node for all nodes on which this Oracle home exists. If there are databases on this node that use ASM, then use DBCA Disk Group Management to create an ASM instance on one of the existing Oracle homes on the node, restart the databases if you stopped them.
If you are using a cluster file system for your ASM Oracle home, then ensure that your local node has the $ORACLE_BASE and $ORACLE_HOME environment variables set correctly. Run the following commands from a node other than the node that you are deleting, where node_number is the node number of the node that you are deleting:
rm -r $ORACLE_BASE/admin/+ASMnode_number
rm -f $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/*ASMnode_number
If you are not using a cluster file system for your ASM Oracle home, then run the rm or delete commands mentioned in the previous step on each node on which the Oracle home exists.
2) Deleting an Oracle Clusterware Home Using OUI in Silent Mode
!!! Oracle recommends that you back up your voting disk and OCR files after you complete the node deletion process.
If you ran the Oracle Interface Configuration Tool (OIFCFG) with the -global flag during the installation, then skip this step. Otherwise, from a node that is going to remain in your cluster, from the CRS_home/bin directory, run the following command where node2 is the name of the node that you are deleting:
./oifcfg delif –node node2
Obtain the remote port number, which you will use in the next step, using the following command from the CRS_home/opmn/conf directory:
cat ons.config
From CRS_home/bin on a node that is going to remain in the cluster, run the Oracle Notification Service Utility (RACGONS) as in the following example where remote_port is the ONS remote port number that you obtained in the previous step and node2 is the name of the node that you are deleting:
./racgons remove_config node2:remote_port
On the node to be deleted, run rootdelete.sh as the root user from the CRS_home/install directory. If you are deleting more than one node, then perform this step on all of the other nodes that you are deleting.
From any node that you are not deleting, run the following command from the CRS_home/install directory as the root user where node2,node2-number represents the node and the node number that you want to delete:
./rootdeletenode.sh node2,node2-number
If necessary, identify the node number using the following command on the node that you are deleting:
CRS_home/bin/olsnodes -n
Perform this step only if your are using a non-shared Oracle home. On the node or nodes to be deleted, run the following command from the CRS_home/oui/bin directory where node_to_be_deleted is the name of the node that you are deleting:
./runInstaller -updateNodeList ORACLE_HOME=CRS_home
"CLUSTER_NODES={node_to_be_deleted}"
CRS=TRUE -local
Deinstall the Oracle Clusterware home from the node that you are deleting using OUI as follows by running the following command from the Oracle_home/oui/bin directory, where CRS_home is the name defined for the Oracle Clusterware home:
./runInstaller -deinstall –silent "REMOVE_HOMES={CRS_home}"
Perform step 9 from the previous section about using OUI interactively under the heading "Deleting an Oracle Clusterware Home Using OUI in Interactive Mode". -

HELP! How do I remove Lion and reinstall Snow Leopard and my files
HELP! How do I remove Lion and reinstall Snow Leopard & my files BUT I just discovered my Apple Time Capsule which was using Time Machine DIED
I had to go to MacMall and have the Time Capsule data transfered to a new BAK drive($300+$300)
(The Apple Store sent me there as they said they do not do data transfer)
Now what do I do?
? ? One Senior advisor said that I will have to drag and drop the data file or files? from the Time Capsule BAK drive back to my iMAC but will that include all the Snow Leopard operating system ?
? ? Another senior advisor said I will have to wipe my hard drive then install Snow Leopard then "drag and drop", ? ??
All my business leases, database, spreadsheets. letters, mail merge files, and so on are not available with Lion -
I AM VERY ANGRY AS I NEVER SAW THAT WRITTEN ANYWHERE !!!
I am seriously confused and I AM SCARED TO MAKE A MISTAKE-HELP !!
WHAT DO I DO ? AND IN WHAT ORDER? PLEASE HELP!Your post is confusing to read too.
It sounds like you still have your files on your Mac. Why do you want to back track to Snow Leopard on your Mac? Why can't you read your files from your Mac? If your files are on your Mac, why are you taking them off your broken Time Capsule? You don't have to install Snow Leopard to transfer your files back to your Mac. Maybe step back a bit and explain your situation a little better with details. For instance, what's a BAK drive? Suggest you explain what you are trying to do?
Before you do anything, create a backup of your Mac to another disk drive.. suggest you use Carbon Copy Cloner to make another copy of your Mac. -
6th gen nano says i have used 3gb of other memory: how do i remove this and how do i find what is in that part of the memory
The operating system for the iPod, album art, databases, etc. all make up the "other stuff". Think of it as all the backstage things required to make your ipod work.

When I try to restore my iPod, it stops restoring at the same place and doesn't work. How do I fix this and make it completely restore itself?
Did you make sure that your security software allows iTunes to contact Apple during the restore process? http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3125

How do I remove Lion and go back to Snow Leopard OS?
How do I remove Lion and go back to Snow Leopard?
If you have the white upgrade disk (originally, you had Leopard and bought SL later), easy. I'm not sure if you have the grey disks (you bought the machine with SL).
If you have the white disk, the first thing you do is get a USB external HD. Format it to GUID with disk utility.
Insert the white SL disk and restart. Follow the instructions to install SL on the external disk.
Have a look here for a step by step tutorial for setting up the external HD: http://www.maciverse.com/installing-snow-leopard-onto-an-external-hard-drive.htm l
From here on in you have two choices:
1. You can run SL off the external disk and keep Lion and all your files/data on the internal disk.
This is the easiset thing to do. You can open files from your Internal Lion disk by navigating through to it in Finder when you're booted in to SL on your external disk. Practical if you have a desktop machine, maybe not if you have a laptop that you need to carry everywhere (you'd have carry the external HD with you all the time).
Any non-Lion only (i.e., not Safari, Preview, Terminal and Mail Lion upgrades) apps should also run off your Lion disk when you're booted into SL, but if you have any problems, just drag them from the Lion Apps folder to the SL apps folder.
2. Move everything over to the external disk if you plan to install SL back to your internal disk.
Start copying over all your apps and files manually by dragging them from the internal disk Apps and Folders to the external disk Apps and Folders. If you have Time Machine, you can also copy your files by navigating to Time Machine through the Finder rather than trying to use the Time machine interface.
You might spend some days doing this, but it's worth doing it manually. When you're done and sure you have everything, google 'Carbon Copy Cloner'. Download it (its free), and clone your external HD to your internal HD. SL restored! -

How do I remove locations and/or pins from maps on iphone 5
How can I remove locations and/or pins from MAPS?
A purple pin is a dropped pin. You access that from the "back" of the map, but touching the lower right corner of the map. It is a pin that is dropped in the center of the map you happen to be looking at at the time. If there is no description of the pin, touch the pin and it should show a label, and on the right side of the label there is a blue arrowhead. Touch that and it will provide an address/description of the pin's location and there should be other options, such as directions to here, from here, etc., and then one to remove the pin. Touch that and it should disappear.
