How do I remove backup files from desktop

I am having difficulty removing backup files that are locked from my desktop that I transfered from a backup external hard drive. It starts to delete but whern it gets to 0 it rewrites the file. this happens evn after I answer "remove all locked files".

I was able to delete the backup.backup files once I :
1. ran disk repair
2. disconnected the external drive and restarted.
Also the 1password.backup files
( Other discussions helped greatly.)

Check Safari/Preferences/Passwords to see if the Facebook account is there. If so, select it and remove it. If you are still having problems, Safari/Preferences/Advanced - enable the Develop menu, then go there and Empty Caches. Quit/reopen Safari and test. If that doesn't work, Safari/Reset Safari.

If you are unable to empty the trash, try holding the Option key while selecting Empty Trash.

Although there is not a way to remove past purchases from your iTunes account completely, you can hide them so that you don't have to see them if you don't want to. This article will help you do that:
iTunes Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases - Apple Support
Hide your purchases
Open iTunes on your Mac or PC.
From the Store menu, choose Store > Sign In, and then enter your Apple ID and password.
Go to the iTunes Store.
Click Purchased from the Quick Links section on the right side of the iTunes Store.
Choose a content type by clicking Music, Movies, TV Shows, Apps, or Books from the top of the window.
A list of your purchased items for the content type you are viewing will appear. Mouse over the item you want to hide until an X appears its top-left corner.
A confirmation dialog will appear once you click the X.

When I am connecting my NOKIA Asha 200 with my PC by data cable, I am watching almost 50 nos. *.nrw files inside the Image folder. I tried to delete all those file, but I was unable. Is there any one, who can tell me how to remove those files from my phone memory?

Back-up your data and then Factory Reset your phone ...(Menu-->Settings-->Restore Factory settings-->Settings only.. followed by 12345 which is default security code, unless set by you) .. When the phone reboots, check whether these .nrw files are now converted to .jpg .. If so, you should be able to delete them now ...

How can I delete a very large folder (30 gb) that I do not need on my time machine backup? I was transferring the file from one computer to another and TM backed it up while it was on my Macbook Pro. Now I have this massive file on my external (time machine) hard drive that I do not need.

In Finder, open the folders until you can see the folder icon for the folder you want to delete.
Launch Time Machine. It should open a similar view of what you were looking at in Finder.
Select the folder, and click on the "Gear" icon at the top of the window and choose "Delete All Backups of "nameofyourfolder"".

Stupidly, I deleted my primary account on my iPhone that contained my contacts and calendar. I don't currently subscribe to MobileMe. I took advantage of the free service when I bought my phone, but decided not to subscribe as I synch my iPhone to my computer and back up my computer using a hard drive connected with Time Machine. Unfortunately, when I stopped using MobileMe, a synch to my iTunes wiped out all my contact data in my Address Book on my computer and my calendar. I synched my iPhone to iTunes and then did the iPhone restore to factory settings. Only then did I realize that the older, correct backup file was not an available option in the dropdown.
So, I'm trying to figure out how to pull an older iPhone backup file and then use it to restore the iPhone. The only thing is that when I go to Time Machine and look at an older Library --> Application Support --> Mobile Sync --> Backup folder, there's a whole bunch of .mdbackup files in there.
How do I select what I need? How do I get the iTunes protocol to run the restore on my iPhone using those files?

Select the folder that contains the .mdbackup files and use Get Info for the folder to check the date the backup was updated. I would forget about trying to extract individual .mdbackup files and transfer the entire folder to the same location on your computer's hard drive - with iTunes quit before doing so.
After doing so, this backup should be available to select when restoring your iPhone from your iPhone's backup.
If this is successful restoring contact info and calendar events on your iPhone, if the Address Book and iCal on your Mac is empty - it does not contain any data, before syncing your iPhone direct with the Address Book and iCal on your Mac, enter one unique contact in the Address Book, and one calendar event in iCal on your Mac. Make these up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provide a merge prompt when syncing this data, which you want to select.
Does Time Machine include a backup of your Address Book and iCal on your Mac? If so, it will be much easier and faster to restore the Address Book and iCal on your Mac from your Time Machine backup.

When I deleted unwanted songs from my iTunes Library I selected the option to Keep Files instead of Moving Song to the Recycle Bin. As a result I've now got a load of unwanted music files clogging up my music folders.
So how can I identify music files that are in my iTunes Music Folders but have been deleted from the iTunes Library and then remove them from my hard drive?

Here's a thought, have you added any new items to your library recently?
If you add your iTunes music folder to your library, anything not already in your library will be added.
Now go to your library view and make sure you have the date added column visible. (Right click in the header row to get a list of columns that can be selcted).
Now sort by date added and everying you just added will be together and can be easily identified for deletion.
Note this only applies if files are in the iTunes Music folder, files in other places have to be deleted in Windows Explorer.
PS iT is usually a good idea to make a copy of iTunes Library.itl before experimenting. Copy it from your iTunes folder to somewhere else.

If you sync by playlists, then remove the song from the playlist in itunes, then sync. The song will be removed from the ipod.
However, if you have genres, artists, etc checked, then you would have to remove that genre, artist,etc from the song info.
If you sync by checked song, then uncheck the song and sync.

I had to reinstall itunes and create a whole new library. All my music is kept on an external hard drive which I keep plugged into my laptop, and Itunes reads the files from that. Before I had to reinstall, when I tried to delete a file, a pop up would ask me if I'd like to remove it from my computer as well as my library. This is no longer happening. All I get now is just a warning asking me if I'm sure I want to delete from the library. What do I do to fix this???? Drag the file into the "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder, which can be found in your iTunes Media folder. iTunes will add the file to your library and will immediately move it to an Artist/Album folder and you will end up with only a single copy. Try it now with one file so you can see how it works, before doing larger batches.

I created two backups at April the 8th and April the 10th.
I did following from RMAN.
shutdown immediate
startup mount
configure channel 1 device type disk format '/opt/oracle/backup/std_%U';
backup database
startup
output was:
including current control file in backupset
including current SPFILE in backupset
it created two files: std-0so6l0vn(2 GB) and std_0to6l106 (7 MB).
First question - first file is backup and what is the second file???
Today I created also backup and it also created two files: std_0uo6morg (2GB) and std_0vo6morv (7MB)
Now I want to return backup from 2 days ago (*std-0so6l0vn*) but can't;
I do the the following:
shutdown immediate
startup mount
restore database from '/opt/oracle/backup/std_0so6l0vn'
but getting error - only SPFILE or control file can be restored from autobackup.
How to restore my backup from two days ago? It looks to me so complicated and hardly understandable.
What command to execute from RMAN to succeed in restore?

The application "PREVIEW" can't locate files, cancels shutdown. How can I remove these files from PREVIEWS memory?

Does anyone know how I can stop this program from looking for files? Every time I restart PREVIEW gives two errors while it's searching for image files that are no longer there. FYI this is a lingering problem related to the replacement of my hard drive (under recall from apple), iphoto had to be totally rebuilt many times through technical support. You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.2. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.
