How do I remove bettersurf extension?
Ads by BetterSurf keep popping up It even embeds itself in articles etc.
I find it is listed as an extension of Firefox
How di I remove it?
Better Surf seems to arrive on a computer with other software. You should take a hard look here:
Windows Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs
Click the install date column heading so you can see what was installed together. Some of these are obviously not what you wanted, but the problem is, some free software is hardwired to keep putting the junk back on your computer. So consider removing EVERYTHING that was bundled together.
This support article recommends malware cleaners to further scrub your system: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].
Hopefully with these actions you will get rid of it in one try rather than having to fight it for days and days.

From your Safari menu bar (top of your screen) click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab.
Just click uninstall. -

Cannot remove disabled extensions
I have a number of extensions that show in my Options/Add-Ons dialog that are disabled but I cannot remove them. They are:
ForceField Toolbar,
Java Console (several instances),
Java Quick Starter
All of these are missing the "remove" button in the dialog.
I have looked for them in the Program Files/Mozilla FireFox/PlugIns and Extensions directories bt they do not appear there.
How can I remove these extensions from FireFox?If an extension doesn't have an uninstall button then that extension is installed globally by another program and you need to remove it via that software.

When I upgraded from 3.XX to 4.0.1, it informed me that 2 extensions were not compatible and it never gave me the option to remove them. Firefox 4.0.1 disabled them and now I'm not able to remove them.
Also they were added by Acrobat Pro X (Adobe Acrobat - Create PDF 1.0) and Nokia Ovi Suite (Firefox Synchronisation Extension 7.3.4.51).
These extensions won't probably be updated unless they update the software that installed them. With this said, How can I remove the disabled extensions? Why it doesn't give me a button to remove them to start with?I think it's not the problem of compatibility. Extensions installed into Windows registry won't have a remove button ( or it's greyed out ). For these extensions, you can have a look into these keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mozilla\Firefox\Extensions\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Mozilla\Firefox\Extensions\
If you are under a 64bit OS as I am, you may also try this key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Mozilla\Firefox\Extensions\
And you may find the registry entries corresponding to the extensions you want to remove. Just export them to a backup.reg, then delete these entries. Firefox will do the rest, but it seems that fx still leaves extensions.rdf untouched. You can also delete the RDF entries corresponding to those extensions inside extensions.rdf
cf: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_add-ons#Windows_Registry_extension
BUT the Wow6432Node key wasn't mentioned in the above article
I had to search the registry to find out the entry corresponding to a Fiddler2 extension, then I found the Wow6432Node key. I also saw the Nokia Ovi Suite entry beside the Fiddler2 entry.
Hope it helps. -
How To Remove PHP Extension File Association With Internet Explorer
When I select a PHP file to open it is redirected to be downloaded and opened (or I can choose to save) in Internet Explorer. I need to test the file in different browsers. How can I remove this automatic association?
I've tried selecting a php file from Windows Explorer and selecting a different browser with no success. I recently bought a new computer with Windows 8. It's a big jump from my old one which used XP where there was no problem opening files with
a php extension.
Patit sounds like you have a file association for .php, and, that you don't want to have one, so the original default behaviour would instead be preferable?
This discussion, although for Win7, may be helpful:

Got an email from Yahoo about new Yahoo Extension for Firefox. I installed it, but did not like it. It did more than I thought it was going to do, it changed my home page, default search engine, etc... so I went to my Add-On manager and Removed the extension. Reset my home page, etc, but even though the Yahoo Extension no longer shows on my add-on manager page, it is still active. When I click on the + to get a new tab, it automatically opens www.yahoo.com/?ilc=301&fr=ff-tab instead of giving me a blank page. How do I remove this.
Well... this did clear the problem, but I had to reconfigure Firefox and was unable to get it back the way I had it... so, found instructions on how to restore my old firefox data by creating a new profile, deleting all the new info and copied the data from my "Old Firefox Data" folder and went back to my original settings, which included the new tab always going to Yahoo problem. Kept searching for solution online and found instructions on how to reset the NewTab option in the config file... here are the steps that were much easier and less painful that doing a total reset of Firefox. All I had to do was reset the newtab option:
"manually reset the new tab page by entering about:config into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up), searching for the preference named browser.newtab.url and right-clicking & resetting it to its default value (about:newtab)."
This worked perfect and got me what I needed and firefox is back to normal for me with all my add-ons, extensions and prefrences sill in place. -
I have removed the old Java Updates (17/19/21) from my Program and Features list(Win7). They still appear in the Tools>Add-ons>Extensions list. How do I remove them?
In both SAFE and Regular browser windows, the UNINSTALL button is grayed out.
I have tried in SAFE MODE, as well as the Help>troubleshooting Information>Application Basics>Profile Directory>Open Containing Folder,,,(looked, nothing there),,,,in both SAFE and Regular browser windows. You can uninstall (remove) the Java Console extensions, you do not need them to run Java applets.

Hi..
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here:
~/Library/Safrari/Extensions
Click Go
If you see the Yahoo axis extension there, just move it to the Trash.
If it didn't show up there, move the Extensions.plist file from the Extensions folder to the Trash.
Quit then relaunch Safari. -

At start up I get a request to install a bitdefender extension to safari. I am sure this is a virus as the link is not familiar, how do I remove this start up request
Hi Pero127,
What I mean is was this a package installer, or an actual extension?
If just an extension, when you double click one, the OS asks if you want the extension installed. In which case, yes, that is the only item installed on your computer and you can then just uninstall it.
But if it was an application installer package, then it could have installed many more items onto your computer than just the extension. The rest will still be on your drive after removing the extension.
