How do I remove iTunes U files from my iPod?

I just loaded a few iTunes U files on my iPod (first generation Nano, software version 1.3.1), and now I can see no way to remove them. I manually manage all my music, but the iTunes U files don't show up in music. When I click on the iTunes U tab, I can see the series I want to remove in the Collections window, but it's faded and un-click-on-able.
Is there a way to do this without restoring the iPod?

I talked with a tech guy at apple and he said if you manually add and remove files (like I do) there is no way to remove these files unless you wipe your ipod clean and reload everything else you had on it.
Sorry i don't have better news. I think it's so stupid that they overlooked this and made itunes u available.
The tech guy told me that if you go on http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
and basically file a complaint, the software guys will eventually fix the problem. Hopefully enough people go on so they fix it.

  • How do I remove the photographs only from my iPod classic?

How can I remove only the photographs crom my iPod classic?  I am running low on space for my music collection.

You remove them from the folder you have your iPod set to sync photos from on your PC.  Once you have done that, you must resync your Classic with iTunes to update the changes.
You can view which folder this is from under your iPod's Photos configuration pane in iTunes.

  • How do I move MPEG audio files from my iPod to my library on my computer???

Can someone tell me how to move MPEG audio files from my iPod to my library on my computer? Somehow all my songs on my iPod are MPEGs and they won't transfer to the library. I really don't want to loose the music, and there doesn't appear to be an option to convert the MPEG to a ACC file while the MPEG is on the iPod. Please help....

iTunes/iPod does not provide a way of copying tracks from an iPod to iTunes except for purchased music. But iTunes can play MP3 files without conversion.
Here are some ways of getting files from an iPod to your PC:
    Copy from iPod to PC
It is important not to allow your iPod to sync with an empty library. If it is set to synchronise automatically you will get a message saying your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to sync – it is important to press cancel as syncing with an empty library erases all music from your iPod.
You can also prevent auto sync by holding down shift & ctrl as you plug in your iPod and keeping the keys held down until the iPod appears in iTunes.
Once you are connected, you need to set your iPod to manage music manually.

If you have an iPod with iTunes Store purchases on it, you can use it to copy your purchases to other authorized computers.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848
However this is not allowed for other music.
This MacMuse tip tells you how to copy music from your iPod using Windows Explorer, but it is a bit fiddly:

Otherwise you can use third party software to manage the transfer, there are a variety of programs out there, some free and some that will copy ratings and counts as well as the music files. Here is a selection, check them out and see what suits you.

  • How do I remove an old file from the Finder Favorites list?

    Good Afternoon.
I have a shiney new MBPro with 10.7.1.
On my old machine running Snow Leopard, I had two .xls files I used often that I had dragged to the left side into the favorites. The truth is, I hadn't used them in months, but hadn't bothered to remove them. Then about ten days ago, the Bad Thing happened, and I had to replace my laptop rather suddenly. The nice folks at the Apple store transferred all the data and I was off an running in just a few hours.
Now, I thought to myself, I should remove those two files since I don't use them any more. But how?
If I click on them nothing happens. If I right-click on them, nothing happens. I can't drag them out because they don't drag and they aren't listed on the list of favorites that can be toggled on and off in preferences.
I checked. The files did still exist but deleting them didn't remove their names from the favorites list.
Any suggestions as to how to remove these two .xls files from the Finder's Favorites list?
    Thanks. A picture is below.

  • How can I remove a downloaded file from the desktop?

    Hi,
I downloaded an install Internet Call Director exe file from my internet privider then was told that their system couldn't run on Mac OS 10. There are two files on my desktop that I can't remove. When I drag either one to the trash i get this message. "the item installICD.EXE is being used by another task right now.(Other tasks include moving, copying, or emptying the trash.)" There is nothing else running. I have tried renaming the file,Clearing the download manager, and anything else I could think of. The files will not open and will not delete even using CMD delete. I am not a computer person! How can I get rid of the files??
    iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

If you haven't already done so, change the filenames so that they have an extension of .rtf, and then open TextEdit. Overwrite both files with blank TextEdit documents and then throw away the TextEdit documents.
If the TextEdit method doesn't work, open the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder and enter the following:
    tell application "Finder"
set file type of (selection as alias) to "1234"
    end tell
Select the file in the Finder and run the script. Repeat this for the second file; when done, try throwing them away again.

  • How do I remove a few files from a burn folder?

I cannot believe I have to ask such a simple question; WHY is everyhting so difficult and complicated with Macs?! I have a DVD in the Mac; I put a number of files into the 'burn folder' which appears automatically. It tells me there are too many files to burn (I have no way of calculating the exact amount to fill the DVD, so have to use trial & error).
On a Windows PC there would be a little button saying 'remove'; you simply highlight a few folders at a time & click 'remove' - & bingo - they vanish from the folder to be burned. But it seems I have to actually send these 'alias' files to the trash in order to get them out of the burn folder? I saw another discussion on here that suggests this will delete the original files? HOW stupid and badly designed is that?!! I tried sending some to the trash but this takes forever; it does not seem to have deleted the originals, but I would like someone to confirm this please - and please can someone tell me how to delete the contents / some of the contents of a burn folder if I've made a simple mistake in what I've added to it? There HAS to be some way of getting rid of files without deleting the originals - surely?!

Pardon me for jumping in, but in my experience deleting an alias from a burn folder (or elsewhere) leaves the original intact.  I don't know why deleting the alias files takes so long on your system - on mine, a mid-2011 mini with 8GB RAM running 10.7.5, it happens pretty immediately.  I didn't initially like the Burn Folder concept, but since I've gotten used to it, it's OK - although it seems to add some unnecesary complexity if I want, for example, to move some (but not all) of the files in a folder onto a CD/DVD.
To delete aliases of files that I don't want burned, I (right-click) (control-click) (two finger tap) on the alias, then select "Move to Trash".  That's not the only way it can be done, of course.
As baltwo used it, I think "WAG" is supposed to indicate a sort of guess.  A "burning maven" would be a person with extensive knowledge of burning CDs and DVDs on a Mac.  Since none have weighed in, there must be some sort of maven convention going on.
But, yes, what you've described should work fine.  If you're super concerned about files being deleted when you delete an alias to them and don't have an up-to-date backup, just make a copy of the file (not the alias) in a different folder.
    Good luck

  • How do I remove a nonplaying song from my iPod Touch that doesn't appear in iTunes?

I found a song on my iPod Touch (3rd Generation) that doesn't play.  Yet it doesn't show up in iTunes when I connect the iPod Touch to my computer.  How do I delete it it off my iPod Touch?

    Try:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Try unsyncing all music and then resyc what you want.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.

  • HT1349 Hello, how to move the iTunes master file from C drive to an external drive and them iTunes stick with the external drive after on an on going basic?

My desktop C drive is full HD of 1 TB, I would like to move the current iTunes master file to an external 4TB drive and then iTunes stick with the external drive
Could this be done, if yes how to do it?
    Thank you for your help
    Henri

If it's the same as with a PC, the procedure would be to:
    (a) Plug in the new external drive,
    (b) Set your iTunes preferences such that the iTunes Music Folder is on the new drive,
    (c) Use the iTunes "Consolidate Library" utility to copy your library to the new location.
    (d) When the transfer is complete, check "Get Info" on some songs to verify their location.
The original files will remain on the old drive, so you'll have a way to recover should there be a problem. You may need to manually copy any iPhone/Touch Apps to the new drive since I'm not sure those are transferred with the Consolidate utility.

  • When will Apple fix the bug that won't allow us to remove iTunes U files from iPods?

    The title says it all.
I'm stuck with iTunes U files on my Gen 4 iPod Nano that I can't get off. Automatically syncing is not an option as my 75GB of music won't fit on my 16GB Nano.
Apple, it's been over a year! Come on, you're upsetting your customer base!

Create a playlist with the content that you want on the device, small enough to fit, restore the device and sync with just that playlist.

  • Is there any way to recover the iTunes Library file from the iPod Touch to preserve metadata like Date Added?

    Topic.
I used software (SharePod) to retrieve music from my iPod Touch after my original harddrive failed, but the program does not retrieve the iTunes Library file needed to import the metadata into iTunes (though it shows in the program itself). The music backed up with no issue, but I don't have what I need to preserve things like Date Added, Play Count, etc. Any solution if I have only the physical iPod Touch?

  • How can I remove a JPG file from Places?

I've just noticed that in the Finder windows, under Places, there is a jpg file. Obviously that's not a Place and I can't recall how it got there. But that's not important; I just want to remove it. I tried dragging it to the Desktop and to the Trash, but that didn't work. I suppose the items in Places are actually aliases stored somewhere. Can you tell me where and how to delete that one? (I'm comfortable editing plist files, if that's where it is.)
    Thanks,
    Rob
P.S. My profile says I'm running 10.6.4, but it's actually 10.6.8, just updated this morning.

    Rob,
That's a change that started with 10.6.7.   Makes it harder to delete items accidently.  Also makes it harder to delete items on purpose when the change happened..

I'm using iMovie on my iPhone 4S and I'm unable to export my movie due to space restrictions.  So I went to clear out some memory space but still it wasn't enough.  Then I noticed there are about 20 audio files that I don't need in the movie.  But there doesn't seem to be a way to delete the files.  Am I wrong?  Can I get them off the iPhone to free up more space?
